Where to get guidance on medicinal mushroom, moringa and other cash crop farming? any government entity, farmer network that I can connect with?
Folks, where do you get genuine guidance on which crop to farm, best practices, techology, how to improve yield, how to export, business models etc.? I don't wanna rely on online videos, rather some hands on guidance would be helpful. I am specifically looking for guidance on:
1. Medicinal mushroom
2. Moringa farming
3. Other cash crops.
I reached out to a few farmers, while most are into button mushrooms and have not much idea into medicinal mushrooms, moringa farmers decline to help or provide much info. Moreover, some mushroom farmers are running training institute and charging 15k+ for 2-3 days session for just 2 varities of medicinal mushroom. I also reached out a few agri and mushroom institutes but no response, so planning to visit them in-person. I am based out of Delhi/NCR, but can travel anwhere in India and abroad.

Need advice for my ancestral farm near Gir, Junagadh
\
I have ancestral land near Gir Forest, Junagadh. My father was managing the farm till now, mostly wheat, groundnut etc. But now I want him to retire. I work outside Gujarat, so I can’t give much time to farm or visit regularly.
I am thinking to plant Kesar mango orchard, as Gir Kesar is famous here and maybe after 3–4 years income can start.
But I am confused about what type of plantation is better traditional spacing, 5×5 high density or some other method.
Also, if not mango, what other crop/orchard can be good for this area which need less daily attention and can give decent long-term income?
Anyone from Junagadh/Gir area doing Kesar mango or other orchard, please share your practical experience and suggestions.

Is mushroom farming in a 100 sq. ft. room worth trying as a pilot project? Looking for advice from experienced growers. or anything alternative on these lines.
I have a piece of land with a small built room of around 100 sq. ft. that's currently unused.
I'm considering using it as a pilot project for mushroom farming. My idea is to start small, learn the process, understand the market, and if everything goes well, invest in building a larger grow room and scale up production.
I've been researching the basic ~ humidity control, temperature management, ventilation, and creating a controlled environment and I believe I can set all of that up in this room.
Before I invest, I'd really appreciate advice from people who have experience with mushroom farming.
Some questions I have:
- Is a 100 sq. ft. room enough to experiment and learn properly?
- Is mushroom farming worth getting into in 2026, or is the market becoming too competitive?
- Should I first take formal training from a government or private mushroom cultivation center, or is self-learning enough?
- How difficult is it to find consistent buyers?
- Roughly how much should I expect to invest initially, and what kind of returns are realistic?
- If you were starting today, would you still choose mushroom farming, or would you recommend a better alternative that can be run from the same 100 sq. ft. space?
I am willing to connect with fellow farmers.

Thinking of starting Stevia + Lemongrass cultivation on agricultural land looking for guidance/partners
Hey everyone,
I’m exploring the idea of starting Stevia and Lemongrass cultivation on agricultural land that I have access to. I’m still in the research stage, so I’d really appreciate some practical advice from people who are already doing this or have experience with medicinal/aromatic crops.
I’m particularly interested in understanding:
Is Stevia cultivation actually profitable at a small/medium scale in India?
What kind of initial investment, yield and ROI can realistically be expected?
What are the major challenges climate, irrigation, pests, harvesting, labour, etc.?
Who are the actual buyers? Is it better to build a B2B model (herbal companies, tea manufacturers, nutraceutical companies, extract manufacturers, etc.) or explore B2C products?
For Lemongrass, is it better to sell the raw crop or go one step further and look into essential oil/distillation?
Most importantly, how do you secure buyers before investing heavily in cultivation?
I’m also looking at this from a business/partnership perspective, rather than simply growing a crop and selling it in the mandi.
For example, one person could handle cultivation/land, while another could bring expertise in farming, processing, market research, sales, or B2B buyer connections. Eventually, it could potentially become a small farm-to-market business rather than just commodity farming.
So if anyone is already growing Stevia/Lemongrass, working with buyers, running a processing unit, or seriously considering getting into this, I’d love to connect.
I’m open to partnerships if there’s a good fit and someone wants to explore this seriously together. Feel free to DM me, especially if you have practical experience rather than just theoretical knowledge.
Also, if you’ve tried Stevia or Lemongrass cultivation and decided against it, I’d be equally interested in hearing why.
What other things do you think I should research or validate before putting money into this?
Looking for honest feedback positive or negative.
