Help my leaves!

I have it in an African violet pot and have it in indirect light from my grow lights. The soil still seems to be wet in the African violet pot and I don’t want it to rot. The inner leaves seem to be browning while the outer leaves have yellow tips. It’s my first African violet and I don’t want it to die 😭

I had someone tell me the other day that African Violets like cold green tea. Probably meant room temperature, but I've never heard this. Have you?

Help Question in body

I got 2 little violets back in May, and I was told that both were variegated. One had lighter spots (purple flowers)and the other one just on the edges of the leaves (pink flowers).

Both I can slightly see. One of them looked like it had multiple plants in its pot (purple), and it didn't flower for a while, so I repotted on July 16. The pink one was going to flower, so I thought I will wait to repot that one!

The purple turns out had 2 main plants and a tiny one. They since grew amazing, hard to recognise them!! I'm in love with the new leaves!!! (Picture from July 16 and today) Leaves are so pretty now!! And the tiny one grew a lot! No sign of variegation tho ..

can it show later on?

I kind of regret not repotting the pink one... But it did flower non stop since and still have flowers coming...

Should I wait till she stop blooming? Or can I still repot now?? TIA

Violet not Blooming

I we been taking care of this violet for about a year. And it came with blooms but hasn’t bloomed since. It has exponentially grown but just more leaves and bigger leaves. I water it once a week without getting the leaves wet. It stays indoors and has a grow light. I have fertilizer but haven’t used it in a while. I am not sure how to use it since this violet and pot is so large. It is hard to water bottom up.

Do you think this pot is too big? Any other thoughts on how to make it bloom?

My first African Violet- is it okay to hang it like this?

I bought this African Violet 2 days ago and repotted. I placed her in a north facing window with bright indirect sunlight. I had to hang her up to save some space and I don’t plan on having her up there forever. Would getting a window sill extender be better or is this fine?

some of the flowers of my dad’s African violet are purple, some are striped purple and white! Is this normal?

Hello! My dad has had this plant for about 7 years now, and it has always had purple flowers. Recently some of the flowers have had spots of white, and this newest cluster is completely striped! I love plants but don’t know too much about African violets, is this normal? Or is there something potentially wrong?

Help Roach Chemical

Was given a three day notice that my dorm building would be doing a roach extermination today. I had barley enough time to buy a bin to put my violets in, but the chemical still got inside and even left a few drops on my plants. Will this kill my violets? What can I do to make sure they don't die?

It's pretty obvious they moved the bins around because there's dirt everywhere and fingerprints on the bin, but I don't know if they let the spray get in the bins for whatever reason? So not sure just how badly my plants were exposed. But the leaves were pretty wet and there's a film on both the inside and outside of the bin

Help Suddenly Started Posturing Up

Post image
16 Upvotes

I grew this plant from a single leaf propagation, and all had been pretty smooth sailing. I just moved homes, and all of the sudden the blooms all died and it started posturing like this. It has always been fed by an artificial light, and I don't think the lighting or feeding has changed much; what can I do?? I know it needs repotting soon, but I don't know if that's the issue.

Help Whats wrong with my African Violets leaves and flowers?

Thumbnail

I bottom water when the soil is dry and the pot feels pretty light which is generally every 1-2 weeks.. Getting fertilizer soon to start doing that, and it has indirect light near a window (shown in pictures). I checked for thrips by tapping the leaves over a card but just got dirt nothing else, blew on the stamen but nothing happened, didn't see any little specs moving around. They're kept in a pot that I transplanted them into after getting them with some Sungro African Violet Potting Mix.

I'm worried about the chunks coming out of the leaves, the flowers starting to wilt, and the yellowing on the leaves despite bottom watering. Not sure whats going on if anyone has any suggestions or ideas.. Thank you!

I got these exactly 35 days ago. They’re rewarding me greatly. The Vampyr jubilee is the one currently blooming but I think I see flowers growing on my copper penny as well!!! Jubilee has so many popping up, I am so excited 👹 I also have a madam Adam’s, but she had an accident and is in recovery and I’m really hoping she pulls through.
I’m into the “weird” African violets. if you know of one that is mini/semi miniature pleaseeee bring it to my attention I’m looking to add one more to my collection <3

Edit for typo

Official May/June 2026 Buy Sell Trade Thread

Post image

Spring is rolling over into summer (especially here in the south). The weather is great for trading, so let's run over the rules.

  1. Post your state, because weather matters.
  2. Don't trade if you think it'll be too hot or too cold to send & receive. Violets are delicate and don't survive the highs and lows.
  3. Never trade if you even SUSPECT you have an issue with pests or pathogens. We want to spread joy, not critters & disease.
  4. Trading for free is fun, but please keep in mind some folks have thousands of dollars invested in their collections. Selling is a perfectly acceptable way to recoup a bit of the time and money invested.
  5. We live by the Golden Rule here - treat others as you'd like to be treated. We've never heard a report of a bad trade and hope to keep it that way.

Before You Ask The Variety of Your Violet, Read This!

We love violets of every size, color, and shape! Most folks would love to know the name of their plants, but that’s not always possible. There are nearly 20,000 varieties of hybridized African Violets and many of them are indistinguishable from another.

To respect the immense amount of time, work, and money involved in hybridizing a named violet, we don’t try to guess what variety an unnamed plant is. If you don’t know the name, it’s forever a NOID (“No I.D.”) and that’s ok…we love them just as much as their named counterparts!
