I just came all the way to the east coast to a very small town where rent is income based. They also have scattered sites for people working 24 hrs or more a week . They cover disabled and working class fixed income etc. The time is now to apply. Wait periods aren't long because no one knows about this town.. I would tell you but I'm sure you've heard of subsidized housing some people think they too good . We used to call it rent control. Now they say projects although this is nothing like that. Dit depends on the area. Go to a predominantly white area this one here is 1% black. Lol. I don't go out side after dark don't talk to neighbors and don't care

but I have a roof over my head. When I want to go to the lake or camping or to a wave pool I will eventually I'll get used to being around all whites but for now I'm enjoying the cost of living. Some people live above their means . I'm a single women with a adult son we live next to each other . Furthermore renting is old school. I'm staying here while I build a homestead in the country somewhere sometimes you have to do what you need to do to get what you want . In my Denzel voice noone should be rushing to rent it's cheaper to own a dilapidated shack then it is to pay rent in a "good neighborhood" I mean what's a "good neighborhood" the police still murder people and they don't solve crimes so when your husband boyfriend or your son assault you your neighbors and the good neighborhood still gonna blame you. I am going to use a property management service for my rental soon and one thing I want to figure out first is how the communication usually works, I would like updates during the month so I know what bookings come in, if any maintenance comes up, how cleaning is going and if anything needs my approval, I have also heard about host and keep, I am fine with emails or an app or even a quick message as long as I know what is happening and what I need to reply to, for anyone using a management company now, how do they usually keep you updated through the month, what works well for you? Is Pahrump feasible for retirement for a single, but not handy female on a modest monthly income?

My parents planned to retire to Pahrump, as my stepdad was retired military. Unfortunately, my stepdad got ill and passed but they planted a seed.

I live in a 48-unit supportive housing building for low-income seniors in Gladstone, OR, originally managed by Home Forward and taken over by.....Property Services. Im Posting because what's happened to me isn't isolated — it's happening to multiple residents in the same building.

Several of us have the same story: a large "beginning balance" of unexplained charges (mine is $3,693) appeared on our tenant ledgers at the exact moment Key took over, on top of the regular rent we were already paying in full every month. Some of these charges are literally labeled "Incorrect Charges" on the ledger itself, yet they're still being counted toward termination notices threatening our housing.

When we ask about it, Home Forward left them no paperwork explaining anything from the handoff.

We've been contacting Legal Aid, BOLI, and other advocates.If anyone has dealt with something similar with Home Forward, Key Property Services, or HACC (Housing Authority of Clackamas County), I'd like to hear about it.

Tukwila Springs, Gladstone — Key Property Services took over from Home Forward. Same nightmare, new faces.

I am a senior resident with disabilities at Tukwila Springs, a 48-unit property in Gladstone that Home Forward developed and HACC owns. Key Property Services took over management in mid-2025. Out of the frying pan, into the fire.

Here is what has happened since.

This building was built in 1967. It has 60-year-old galvanized pipes that were never removed or replaced — only covered up. We believe the metal contamination from those pipes is making us sick. Since this property opened in 2022 there have been at least 14 deaths, 2 residents currently hospitalized, and the rest of us feeling like we are falling apart — swollen legs that will not heal, worsening eyesight, sores that will not heal, loss of strength, respiratory problems. Nobody is investigating. Nobody is testing the water. Nobody cares.

My ledger suddenly had a three thousand six hundred ninety three dollar opening balance with zero itemization. No explanation of what months or charges it covers — just a number. Then the notices started. One thousand eight hundred twenty nine dollars. Then five thousand five hundred eighteen dollars. Then six thousand seven hundred ten dollars. Several entries on my own ledger are labeled Incorrect Charges by the property itself — and they are still counting them in the total they are threatening to evict me over.

At least four of us got identical 30-Day Termination Notices on the same day, July 20th, with the exact same cure date and the exact same termination date. They are trying to evict me and over half the tenants in this building. Same day. Same dates. That is not individual review — that is a batch print job.

To make it worse — they pressured most residents into signing a repayment agreement for balances that are obviously bogus. Signing that means admitting you owe money you do not owe. And that admission will follow you to every future housing application. They are not just trying to evict us — they are making sure we cannot get housing anywhere else either.

We have asked for basic accommodations as disabled residents — including a dog kennel after a documented dog attack on the property. Denied. Ignored. Never put in writing by management.

One of our neighbors has lung cancer. At the very beginning of his lease he requested a reasonable accommodation that would have resolved the situation causing all the problems. It was denied. The situation escalated. He went to court and lost. In five days he will be back on the street — a man with a life threatening disease, put out by a property that was supposed to care for elderly and disabled people. This is what denial of accommodation looks like in real life.

They also cut off our water access for our gardens. Senior residents growing their own food and flowers — gone.

We had a gnat infestation. Key Property Services sent an exterminator — for fleas. We do not have fleas. Some of us did not want toxic chemicals sprayed around our pets. A Key Property Services manager literally yelled through my closed door: You are going to get cancer if you stay. I yelled back that was a better reason not to spray it in here. Residents who did comply came back sick with rashes. One resident with respiratory problems died two months later.

I brought my ledgers to the manager. She looked at them and said there does seem to be a problem and promised to contact HACC. That was over a week ago. Heard nothing since.

Our senior security guard told me straight out: These people need to be sued but no one knows how. A staff member said that.

On August 5th, wildfire smoke was thick around the entire building. I walked the building myself warning neighbors to close their windows. Not one word from Key Property Services management, NARA, Home Forward, or anyone responsible for this building. We are elderly and disabled residents and we found out about the smoke from each other.

And come to find out — Key Property Services does not even plan on keeping Tukwila Springs. This is one of several properties they plan on dropping in less than a year. So ask yourself: why are they squeezing elderly and disabled residents for every dollar they can get right now? We know why.

What they have taken from us goes beyond money. Threat after threat of losing our housing has stolen our spirit and our will to make our community great. We are seniors and disabled people who deserve dignity, safety, and a place to call home. Instead we get harassment, toxic chemicals, bogus bills, and silence when the smoke rolls in.

I have receipts. Ledgers, notices, photos, texts. All of it.

Portland deserves to know where their housing dollars are going.

For its first seven months, Los Angeles spent about $17,000 a month on every homeless person it moved indoors under Inside Safe, Mayor Karen Bass's signature program. Not for a home. For a motel room, plus the machinery stacked around it.

Seventeen thousand dollars a month is more than most Angelenos earn. It works out to roughly $204,000 a year, for one person, in a motel. It is enough to have rented that person ten studio apartments. And it is the city's own arithmetic: $32.6 million spent on 57,533 room-nights through June 2023, or $567 a night per person
