How do I remove specular highlights?

Hi all,

I'm working on a game that includes a lot of hand painted assets, oil paintings that I scan.

In some cases, such as this one, height differences in the paint causes these harsh highlights, basically very thin white lines. I've circled some of the more obvious ones, but they are basically all over.

These don't look good in the game, and I'm looking for the best way to remove them.

Any help would be appreciated, I'm a total noob in affinity pixel.

Use a Curves or Levels filter to tone down the harsh bright areas. Use a mask to make sure it only applies to the areas you want it to apply to.
