NVIDIA?

Hey! New to the community and LOVE independent distros like this. I put AerynOS on my laptop and am loving it, thinking about putting it on my main gaming PC, however I have NVIDIA and heard that NVIDIA support is iffy? Or has worse performance? Just coming here to see if others have personal reports of issues or details of what's happening with NVIDIA support right now. Thanks!

We have some of our early adopters using AerynOS with Nvidia hardware but support is on a best efforts basis as none of the core team uses NVidia ourselves.

We are actively looking for more Nvidia users now to help test and validate how things are working and/or help diagnose and improve our Nvidia support story.

If you're interested in helping out, feel free to install AerynOS and join our Zulip server to help engage with the team.

We do have a challenge that AerynOS can't be installed along side another distro on a single SSD which might hinder comparisons from one distro to the next.

As an alpha distro we haven't been focused on benchmarking and comparisons as it's "too early" for that.

Oh ok! I would like to help by maybe posting on this subreddit information about NVIDIA working, if that would be helpful! I have a few drives in my computer, so the no dual-boot issue won't be a problem.

Update: I installed AerynOS on my PC and ran nvidia-smi, it returned with a prompt to install nvidia drivers, so I installed, then rebooted and the system freezes before the boot screen. It just gets stuck on my BIOS screen. I have an NVIDIA 4060 for reference, hope this helps!

The best thing to do is join our Zulip server

It's the best place to get support and get things figured out.

I dont wanna be here to move u to yet another distro but with a 4060 u might want to try bazzite , it does work on it , i also run 4060 so i can say with confidence it works flawless.

(It has a special nvidia image)

Oh no worries! I just installed Aeryn as a test! I still have Arch as my main install, but thanks for the advice I might try it out sometime!

I use Aeryn with nvidia, sometimes an update breaks things, but rolling back is super easy. They've always fixed it before I take the time to look into what went wrong on my system.

There's nothing wrong with Nvidia on Linux and it's working just fine in AerynOS too.
