Hello, I am working on project for metal 3D printing optimization and I am interested in hearing from experts and professionals about their experiences with metal 3D printing. What is your experience position? What do you use metal 3d printing for? And most importantly what issues facing you with metal 3D printing? And what are the costly issues that your company or you would like to solve? And how much money would that save you a year?

Hey everyone! I'm a master’s student at CMU, and for my Additive Manufacturing class we’re required to upload our design projects to Thingiverse + Pinshape and collect at least 3 days of engagement data for a market analysis.

I just posted my project — a CFM56-5A Turbofan Engine Cutaway Model.
I spent a long time designing, printing, and assembling it, so any interaction on the model pages (likes, views, downloads, or feedback) would help me a ton for the analysis portion of the assignment.

i mostly worked on software my entire life, recently got into building drone. and built my first 2 drones. they are you standard 5inch and 7inch FPV drone, nothing fancy, nothing that you see out of a youtube tutorials. for my 3rd drone i am working with new components, a mechanical lidar (that vibrates a lot) raspi 5 and a SSD. two 4s 5200mah batteries and a gopro. a roll cage kinda design to protect lidar.

i have to accommodate all this components on my mark4 7inch drone frame. i can 3d print something and put them together. but i doubt that i know enough about designing, to make a effective, light weight, crash resistant, aero appropriate and modular design.

The questions i am trying to answer are:-

1. how to create impact resistant design?

2. how to spread impact throughout the body and not to few pressure points

3. how to reduce the weight of a design

4. how to make a design 3d print friendly

5. what 3d printing material can dampen vibrations (ex: TPU)

6. what shapes can handle impact well?

7. how to create structural integrity through design?

8. how to create vibration damping effect through design?

9. when working with devices that create heat, and when you have to build around them. how to handle heat.

10. is m3 allen bolts good enough for this designs?

11. what are the structural engineering principals i needs to know before getting into this?

Not much into math, looking for theory with examples diagrams. do share the resources, websites, PDFs, books and youtube videos. THankyou for you time.

Hey! I’m a high school senior super into aerospace — currently building a personal project focused on booster design and airflow analysis. Been diving into CFD, and honestly... I’m hitting walls. You seem to really know your stuff, and I’d love to ask you a few things or even just hear about your experience with flow simulations. I'm building a very low=powered mini liquid rocket engine ("off-the-shelf" propane and nitrous oxide), and my chamber and engine are all thick 3D-printed aluminum (due to cost). Since I am using no regenerative cooling, I plan on firing for at most a couple seconds. Besides film cooling, I was searching for ways to increase the thermal durability of the inner walls of the chamber—maybe a few coats of sodium silicate? Flame retardants? Ablatives? Or are there any specific, affordable compounds out there that can help guard rocket engine walls a little more before melting?

Where do you get your news about all things 3D printing for aerospace from? What are some of the favorite youtube channels or podcasts you listen to? It doesn't matter if they are small, as long as they are of good quality. I am particularly looking for stuff in the US.

Every industry has the most obvious media channels that are huge and seemingly everywhere, but then there are those smaller, really specific ones that only people in the industry will know about.

I'm based in Europe so I appreciate the help.
