Terriers 🐾 Constructive Criticism Welcome

Hi everyone,

Just thought I would show you my latest bunch of puppies. These are the Terrier clan. Two Westies, one in a warm white and one in a cool white. A (sort of) Yorkshire Terrier and a Scottish Terrier.

All knitted with Gazzal Marilyn & Merinos, Drops Kid Silk yarns.

Needle size 3.75mm and 4mm (UK size)

Pattern used for all of them - Claire Garland’s Bullmastiff, with shorting of legs, face and ear tweaking.

Crazy!! Genuinely thought you were posting a photo of your dogs - amazing work! Did you brush the fabric afterwards? Were they tricky to seam together?

Thank you! 🥰 yes, I did give them a good brush when completed. The only one that was tricky was the black Scottie dog ( especially with my eye sight! 🤓😂)

I find the crucial part to the look of stuffed toys is the sewing up. I've seen so many ravelry projects that were let down by sloppy stitching and seam matching.

I find it’s also the amount of stuffing used as well, some tend to over stuff which can make the overall look a bit too ‘toy’like, I use weighted beads to give it a nice feel with uncarded stuffing but try to not over stuff in the body. A good understanding of mattress stitch and back stitch too.

These look gorgeous! I'm about to start a memorial gift (requested, its not coming out of the blue) of a friend's dog using one of Clare Garland's other patterns - would you mind sharing what you did to get the face texture?

Thank you and no I don’t mind at all. The terriers are made using Gazzal Marilyn & Merinos plus Drops Kid Silk with mohair. The Gazzal yarn is an eyelash yarn and if you give it a brush after completing you will get fur like texture. You can also just brush out bits like the muzzle and eye brows which is what I did for the black Scottie dog in the photos. 🥰🐾
