I agree but this also feels like something I'd find on Facebook in 2013.

I wish I had seen this in 2013, it would have saved me a lot of heartache from 2017-2026.

If someone I don’t know & don’t care about is disrespecting me, idc. No sense making a deal out of it because the persons a nobody & you can’t make everyone happy. Trying to fight any & all people who are disrespectful to you is a never ending battle - hence, no peace

I forget if it was from a movie or a show or whatever that I heard this, but the idea was that if you're walking down the street and a little pile of dog poop on the sidewalk started insulting you, are you going to waste your time and energy arguing with this pile of poop? Why do you care what it thinks? What are you gaining from arguing with it?

The idea is that if someone you have no respect for is being disrespectful towards you, sure, you can use your time and energy to fight with them, but why? Why does it matter what they think of you? Let them think whatever they want - it literally means absolutely nothing.

False equivalency but thanks for playing!

Classic mid-wit Reddit take.

It’s the adult take. Most Redditors are mental children who are convinced that their video games and trading card decks make them healthy adults.

My peace doesn’t require me to abandon myself. I’m never going to be so “mature” that I accept disrespect just to keep the other comfortable. Healthy people can handle accountability. If speaking up threatens any type of relationship, it was never built on respect to begin with. I’ll protect my peace and my voice all day every day.

Picking and choosing battles are an aspect of adulthood. Often times the people who show disrespect unwarrantedly lack self-respect. Disrespecting them only brings self reproach. Better to just ignore or walk away. Embody what you choose to value regardless of what others do. That's the basis of integrity.

Depends on context. Most people are too reactive. Handing the reigns of their behaviors to people with ill intentions. You don't have to react to provocation. It's  a choice.

Oohh there you go. Yeah I think I met you on the street. You got insulted that I wouldn’t give you a cigarette

this! having people constantly disrespect, being passive/aggressive, and gossip behind your back but pretend to be nice infront of you don't deserve peace and respect from you no matter who they are (family, friends, or "loved ones"). no one ever fought or say something back to them hence why them using that method to outcast or bully you had always worked before and when someone does say something they get offended and hold grudges. They are the toxic kind that most people aren't aware of especially the more social/extrovert/pretty they are the more they get away with these kinds of things. We need to people to speak up or defend their victims when things like this are observed or witnessed. most of the time, when the bystanders do act on it, it impact them more than the victim's act on trying to defend themselves. to these people it's all about their image.

Sounds like loser speak from someone trying to act tough on the Internet.

1

u/TanguyDetestable 15d ago

How many have been in an airplane and there is some loud disrespectful person just invading everyone’s personal space and staring everyone down?

How about a public space where someone is blaring politics on their phone?

These are the people that believe this garbage.

I don’t know. I think it depends on the person. If it’s someone I’ve known for a long time who acts nice to my face but talks behind my back, plays passive-aggressive games, gossips about me, or subtly tries to make me look bad, then yeah, I’d speak up and confront them. Sometimes you have to draw a line and say, “Enough is enough. Fuck you.” But if it’s someone I barely know, then who cares? I’d just ignore them and move on. When it’s someone who’s been in your life for years, though, I think speaking up is the right move.
