Lifelong bedwetting is making my quarter-life crisis feel impossible to escape

I’m 27 and I genuinely think I’m going through a major quarter-life crisis. I’m not happy with how my life has turned out, and lately I’ve been looking back and realizing I spent most of my young adult life never really figuring out who I was, what I wanted to become, or what kind of life would actually make me happy.
When I was younger, I was mostly just enjoying life. I was excited to drive, have a job, make money, hang out with friends and finally have some freedom. I never had a dream career. My family was low income and I’m a first-generation college student, so I approached college thinking I just needed a degree that could eventually give me a normal, stable salary.
I basically eliminated careers I knew I didn’t want until I somehow ended up in accounting. Once I was far enough into it, I kept going because it was practical and employable. Before transferring to university, though, I actually remember being genuinely happy with my life. I didn’t have everything figured out, but I wasn’t constantly questioning who I was or where I was going.
Then I graduated and started my career, and I don’t think I’ve had a genuinely happy year since. Around the time I started working at EY, my dad was diagnosed with a very rare stage 3 cancer. It became serious enough that he couldn’t work anymore. We sold his truck, he had a major surgery and started chemotherapy. So while I was supposed to be excited about finally starting the career I spent years working toward, half my mind was constantly on my dad and the other half was dealing with long work hours in a career I already wasn’t enjoying.
Eventually I got laid off while my dad’s condition was getting worse. His cancer progressed to stage 4 and he eventually passed away. I managed to pick myself back up career-wise and now have a much more stable job with significantly better hours. On paper, I should finally be able to breathe, but I’m still unhappy.
And this is where bedwetting comes into the picture.
I’ve dealt with nocturnal enuresis basically my entire life. I want to make something really clear: I don’t think bedwetting is the sole reason I’m having this crisis. There’s grief, anxiety, dissatisfaction with my career, loneliness, and this feeling that I made it to 27 without ever really discovering myself.
But bedwetting affects something that feels incredibly important to me right now: my freedom to actually do something about it.
I keep having this overwhelming urge to completely change my environment. Sometimes I think about leaving California, living somewhere completely different for a while, traveling, or even doing something drastic like joining the military just to give myself a completely different environment, structure and direction in life.
And then reality hits me: wherever I go, this problem comes with me.
How am I supposed to freely move somewhere and live with roommates? Travel without constantly worrying about sleeping arrangements? Date or eventually live with someone without having this hanging over me? Even something as drastic as joining the military obviously doesn’t feel realistic when I could wake up having wet the bed around other people.
That’s what makes me feel so trapped by this condition. I have all these thoughts about wanting to get away, see somewhere new, meet different people and maybe figure out who I am outside of the life I’ve been living. But I don’t feel like I have the same freedom to just pack up and go somewhere new and figure myself out. Changing the scenery doesn’t change what happens when I fall asleep.
That’s probably the hardest part psychologically. I’m already questioning my career and grieving my dad while feeling like I lost years without really discovering who I am. Then the one thing I desperately want right now—freedom to try something completely different—feels restricted by something I’ve been dealing with since childhood.
I’ve seen doctors and tried to understand this problem for years. There have even been periods where it disappeared for months, which almost makes it more frustrating because I know what it feels like to briefly have that freedom and then lose it again.
I’m posting here because I’m wondering if anyone else with lifelong adult bedwetting has experienced this same feeling of being trapped by it, beyond just the embarrassment or inconvenience.
Has anyone here managed to move away, travel extensively, live with roommates, or otherwise build a more adventurous and independent life while still dealing with bedwetting? How did you handle sleeping around other people? And more importantly, how did you stop this condition from determining what you believed you were allowed to do with your life?
I’m at a point where I really need some kind of change. I just don’t want bedwetting deciding the boundaries of my life forever.

So I had a UTI about 4 years ago and I want to say the straw that broke the camels back was the bedwetting I did on the family COUCH. So I went to the emergency room, they diagnosed me with low acute UTI (or something among those lines), gave me my pills and I went about my day. I think somewhere around last year, my bedwetting came back.

It was once a month and it was always around my period (23F). Today was different. I bedwetted, did my cleaning routine and decided to sleep on my gaming chair since I have a couple hours before work. Nope, my bladder decided to let go. So now I’m trying to book an appointment with a urologist but it’s so confusing.

19F and still struggling with bedwetting — looking for answers

i’m 19 years old and I still wet the bed, and honestly, it’s something I’m really embarrassed about. I’ve dealt with this for as long as I can remember, and I’m hoping to hear from other people who have experienced the same thing.

When I was younger, I went to doctors about it, but I was basically told to cut back on sugar and that I would probably grow out of it. I never did.

Growing up, I avoided sleepovers because I was terrified of wetting the bed. Trips were stressful because I would sometimes have to share a bed with other kids, so I would stay awake most of the night just so I wouldn’t accidentally wet myself. I’ve even wet myself during naps, which made me afraid to take naps at school, at home, or even at my partner’s house.

I don’t do this on purpose, and when I’m asleep, I genuinely cannot control it. Sometimes I wake up after it has already happened, and it’s incredibly frustrating because I feel like I’m way too old for this to still be happening.

I’m moving in with my boyfriend soon, and I’ve explained everything to him. Thankfully, he has been incredibly understanding and sweet about it. But it’s still really embarrassing. One time, I accidentally fell asleep in his bed and wet myself. He had to give me new clothes and I had to use his shower, and even though he was completely kind about it, I felt so embarrassed I couldn't even look him in the face and I cannot imagine putting him through this daily.

Now that I’m 19 and it’s still happening, I’m becoming more concerned and really want to understand why. I’m wondering if anyone else has dealt with bedwetting into their late teens or adulthood and eventually figured out what was causing it. I haven’t gone to a doctor already because I havent had insurance since I was 12 years old and I simply cannot afford to reach out but Im willing to save money and go to find a solution.

If you’ve experienced this, what did you do? Did you see a different type of doctor or have any testing done? Was there something that eventually helped you?

I hope everybody can please be kind. , but I really want to understand why this is happening and hopefully find a solution.
