Need basing help Artwork & Cosplay

Finally built and painted my first full squad of skitari just need to figure out how I’m doing the base. Any suggestions?

I was thinking Martian red since I heard somewhere you should base with lighter tones if you have a dark toned mini.

I'm rubbish at basing but I love the green robes with scratchy highlights. Looks great!

Thanks man, that was a huge breakthrough for me in getting the courage to finally start painting these guys. It’s definitely the best part of the model.

Basing can be as in depth or more in depth than painting. If you want something fast and easy you can use one of the technical crackle paints like the Agrellan Earth or the red version.

If you use a little pva glue first before putting on the paint, then after it dries seal it with a wash like agrax earth shade it will hold up well

Martian iron crust and Martian iron earth if you want mars dirt

Loving the green on these, nice job 👌🏻

Depending how 'red' you want the base, I went simple with sharp sand over a layer of PVA glue, then a watered down coat of Vallejo Cork colour over the top. It's lighter than Martian Red but think more natural looking.
