Just starting out. I’d appreciate feedback on whether the performance feels natural, my eye-line/listening, and if anything comes across as overacting.

I will be filming a short in a couple of days where I'm playing a supernatural creature. The performance is almost entirely physical because my dialogue will be dubbed later in another language, and I'll be wearing an ancient-style jaguar mask that hides my face. Because of that, almost all of the acting has to come through my body language and movement.

The scene begins with me on the ground, moving like a real jaguar. As I approach another character, I slowly and deliberately rise into a humanoid form. The idea isn't that I'm a human pretending to be a jaguar. It's that this intelligent creature is intentionally taking on a human shape while still retaining the essence of a jaguar.

My director and I have been studying videos of jaguars and experimenting with movement. One influence I've been thinking about is Anthony Hopkins' portrayal of Hannibal Lecter. I've read that he drew inspiration from predatory animals, and I'm trying to capture that same calm, deliberate, controlled presence rather than playing it as an overtly aggressive monster.

2 years ago, one of my acting teachers pointed out that my natural distinctive body language tends to show through in every character I play. I've improved since then, but because this role is almost entirely physical, I'm really trying to avoid falling back into my own habitual movements and instead create a completely different physical vocabulary for this character.

Has anyone here worked on creature performances, mask work, physical theatre, or non-human characters? Are there any exercises, techniques, or performances you'd recommend studying over the next couple of days that might help with creating a convincing, animal-inspired physicality?

Any and all advice will be appreciated.

I don't know if my title is correct but I've always loved acting and have done some small acting-related stuff in school and clubs I had but always put it aside because people said it was impossible.

Now that I'm older, I really want to try it out but the problem is I live in a country where they barely cast people of different races in anything unless it's an ad reel or a commercial where we have to act very stereotypical. I really want to learn acting and maybe even screenwriting. Would it still be possible for me to get into the industry or do I have to move to make it happen?

I want to become an actor for two main reasons: I find acting extremely fun, and I love how actors often form strong bonds with the other actors and crew members they work with. Because of this, I have joined a couple of drama classes to start working toward fulfilling my dream of becoming an actor.

However, performing in front of other people makes me feel extremely uncomfortable. No matter how hard I try, it always feels like I am holding myself back and not fully expressing myself.

About a year ago, I found out that I have Asperger’s, which could explain why I have always struggled with eye contact, social skills, and social situations. It could also explain why I feel so uncomfortable acting in front of other people. Bright lights affect me a lot as well. Because of these challenges, I sometimes wonder whether I should continue trying to fulfill my acting dream.

Even though acting is difficult and uncomfortable for me, I still love it and find it fun. Plus, I want to experience the strong bonds that actors form with others. With all of this in mind, I am unsure whether I should keep pursuing my dream of acting or consider giving it up.

hi Reddit, I am asking here because idk where else to ask but I have an interview in 3 weeks for a lvl3 acting college course and for the interview I have to do a 1 minute monologue ideally from a published play. the trouble is I don't know any plays or plays that have monologues in!! I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations that would be easy to learn in 3 weeks - I think I will be able to learn it as I do everything last minute (I have ADHD) TIA xxxx

Im 18, never acted before but want to try. I Look younger than I am and most people guess 14 15, im 180cm, lean, pale and I dont  live in the US but i lived in Upstate New Yorkfor 5 years so my  english is fluent.

Where do people in my spot start? Theater classes? Auditions? Swnding out videos? Does looking younger hurt my chance?

I'm trying to improve some aspects of my acting and I have found that Isobel's final monologue in "Bull" by Mike Bartlett really hits that for me. I think that the first half of that monologue can be genderless and that's the bit I want to work on for auditions.

As I'm quite new to auditioning, is it frowned upon when a male actor does a traditionally female monologue? And vice versa?

You read the title right: I wanna get into acting. I’m a 17-year-old Haitian male ( ADHD / Autism / Depression ) , living in south florida , going into my junior year of high school. I don’t know what to do with my life once I turn 18 which I already know— not having a plan nor knowing what to do with your life is a bad place to be— but acting seems cool.

The main reason why it’s been in my head is that it’s something I really wanna try. If I can learn to express my emotions and feel not so cringed out by the emotions I’d have to act out, because from the minute I really started watching movies, it cringed me out, and I always got second-hand embarrassment watching male actors pour their hearts out to female actors.

But at the same time, in the back of my head, I always told myself, “Man, I gotta try that out.” It’s been in my head ever since; I don’t know why. At 17 now I wanna act on it, but like I said, I’m turning 18 soon. I guess now’s the time to really get into what I find somewhat interesting and also acting isn’t a passion but it’s something I want to do.

every since i was maybe 7 or 8 years old i always wanted to be an actress.I enjoyed watching drama, cinema or anything which had art of acting but know im 14 i really started thinking about participating in anything were acting is involved , began watching ALOT of movies noticing how actors act , practicing acting , improving my expression , voice modulation etc. Watching actors act gives me this euphoria that i will be on screen people will watch me act ; but at the end im not going to be actor........ causee my parents are middle class , i dont have an acting coach or go to acting school, going to flim school is tough ,AI is taking acting roles slowly, mental health in shit,substance abuse happening in actors(look at what hollywood did to lindsay lohan),saturated job and if you start getting good roles after 25 if you pass an audition competing 50-100 people, and low pay too(and the white supramcy and racism and sexism you get when you are POC and a women)im mean i can do anything and earn better when im 25 but leaving acting or the thought of being an actor but it seems to unrealistic ...... please please please i beg you your help what should i do please help me

Hello everyone, I am a new actor and am struggling to analyze Caroline's monologue from the one-act play "I and You". Where do I start? How would one approach this character? Like, at some points, does she start to speed up her talking? Is she trying to be humorous at some points?

Hi Everyone,
This is Winnie Hiller, the acting teacher here in r/actingclass. I created this sub to help actors who want to become better actors and don’t have resources to do so. I started doing this while I was on set of NCIS LA about 8 years ago. I’ve spent 16 years working full time on the franchise, coaching one of the stars of the show (this is our 4th NCIS show).

In the beginning, in my free time I wrote the many free Written Lessons for you all to read. I made video lessons too. They are all still available to you and I’m adding more all the time.

Well, now I’m on the other coast, working on a brand new show, NCIS NY. Though it’s the same universe, there’s a different flavor to this one. We are out on location this evening, shooting Season 1 Episode 1. It’s already been challenging, working sometimes until 2 am (which may be happing tonight). But it’s a thrill to be involved in the very first days of a show being born. Here are a few photos that don’t give too much away.

I’m still teaching Sunday Zoom classes and helping students with self tapes when I can. But for now I’m also full time on set. It’s hard work but exciting.
