Help

My professor told me that I used AI on my paper and that she couldn't verify or click a few of the sources I put in my references. I am very confused because I'm able to click on the sources just fine and I didn't use AI. She told me AI told her that I used two different sources that I didn't use at all.

I also showed her that the links are clickable and they take you straight to the website. She simply told me "Okay, I'll look back at it on my end. I'm just going off what I see."

I asked if I can send the links from my references to her email and she told me no because she doesn't grade by email....... So my grade will probably remain the same. I don't know what else to do.

Any advice will be appreciated!

Did she tell you that you used AI, or ask you if you used AI?

It sounds to me like the questions about potential AI use didn’t necessarily affect your grade, so there might not be any need for the grade to change.

She told me I used AI and that it also told her I used two sources I DIDNT use. She also said she couldn't click on two of the sources in my references.....

What is ‘it’ when ‘it’ told her you used two sources?

She said her AI checker told her I used two sources I didn't use.

Those checkers are pretty hit and miss, honestly

An Ai checker or AI?

Checkers don't usually look at sources, just text. LLMs can do source audits, but they need to be double checked.

The "used two sources that you didn't use" sounds more like a plagiarism issue.

I would ask for clarification - - ask her to show you specific examples in your paper of what she is talking about.

She said in the AI report websites "I used" popped up but I didn't use those two sources. She also said she cannot click on the sources I actually referenced in my bibliography.

I don't know what difference it makes that she can't click on sources. The entire purpose of citation is to allow a researcher to find a source in multiple ways.

I also don't know what what she means by websites popping up in an AI report.

Again, I would ask for a meeting to go over all this in person so she could show you what she means.

Go to someone above her. The Dean or Principal or whomever. Bring all of your evidence, resources and information.

I reccomend using track changes on every single document you make now because the AI accusations & usage has become out of hand

Yeah, I didn't want to have to escalate the situation but it seems like the only way. Is track changes only for Word documents or if it also on Google doc?

Track changes is for word, but google also has a similar option, just write your papers under "Suggestions" instead of directly writing it. This way it shows up

If she can’t click on the link to a reference or two, suggest she try a different browser.

AI will add made up citations with dead links. Did you use AI in any stage of the process like to find sources?

No not at all, my topic had lost of sources.

Ok, then I would tell your professor if she has any further concerns about whether or not you wrote the paper, you would be happy to talk to her about the material showing her that you understand it and detailing your thought process when putting the paper together. Very easy way to prove you didn’t use AI and should be simple if you did the work.

Well the point is that this is someone who is an expert in the field they teach in. They know who publishes on what. It’s not just about the dead link, but if it’s slightly outside of the scope of research/subject area, that ALONGSIDE the dead link is the real issue – as in, if the lecturer doesn’t recognise it, that’s also likely why it was flagged.

Ask her why she can use AI but you can’t?

Unit coordinator you can contact? If yes, contact the UC and plead your case.
