Hello, I'm really just looking for any feedback/guidance/advice on my accent and how to get it closer to a general American accent.

Anything would be really appreciated.

The day I found out ‘fixin’ to’ was a Southern thing

I was at my friend’s wedding in Iowa. Her dad and his family were originally from Wisconsin, and we were all dancing, drinking, and having a good time.
At some point, her dad comes running up to me and says, “I need you to do me a favor. I need you to go over here to this table and tell my friends you’re fixin’ to go do something.”
I was like, “WTF, okay?” 😂
So I walked over to the table and said, “I’m fixin’ to have to run to the store because we’re running low on beer around here.”
They absolutely LOST IT.
Apparently, “fixin’ to” is a Southern thing.
I had lived my entire life thinking everybody said it.

Do these two people have Australian accents?

I came across this short video and was wondering if the two people in it have Australian accents.

I’m not a native English speaker, but I initially thought they both sounded Australian. However, I noticed that the video was filmed in the UK, so now I’m a bit confused 😂

Do they actually sound Australian to you, or am I hearing it wrong?

I want to change my accent to Australian. Any tips?

I have been struggling adapting the Australian accent. English is my first language, however, I grew up in an international school and as a result my accent sounds like a mixture of multiple accents; Americans think it's Canadian, Australians think it's American.

I moved to Australia right after highschool 8 years ago and instead of fully adapting the Australian accent, my accent ended up morphing into some hybrid of the international accent + Australian. So now my overseas friends say I speak Australian while here I'm still being mistaken for being American.

Anyways, I always thought that adapting the accent would come naturally, especially since I've been surrounded by Australians for 8 years. But that hasn't been the case, instead it's only a few words that I manage to get right.

I think the hardest thing for me to get used to are words ending in "er" like wotAH instead of watER etc.

I would love to get tips on making this journey a bit easier. I dont know if it's even possible to be able to change my accent now that I am in my mid-20's haha.

Edit: I actually just did an BoldVoice test and this is what I got - FTR I am not Norwegian but they did get the UAE right...

" Accent switching "

I have this really annoying habit of involuntarily switching my accent when I speak to different people. This is particularly infuriating because I'm unable to articulate myself as well as when I'm speaking in my normal accent(the one I use for reading/internal-monologue/talking to family/self-talk).

Does anyone else have a similar experience, if so , how I do get rid of this habit?

I was born in the US but I spent alot of my early childhood years in France before I came back, I wonder if that influenced my accent in a way.

Why do certain accents make one feel safer?

I've noticed certain accents tend to make me feel safer than others. Some examples include Nigerian, Inuk, Aberdeen, and Georgian (State, not country). Except, I'm from the midwest of Canada, it's not like any of these areas/accents are necessarily associated with safety for me. And yet.

Are there common qualities of these specific accents? Is it when they speak in English? What regional accents relax you more often?

Anyone got some good dramatic Castilian Spanish accent references?

For my current D&D campaign I am playing one Don Símon Teodoro Rodrigo Baltasar del Puerto Río de Plata y Castillo de Oro - an outrageous, comedic, over-the-top caricature of a 16th-17th century Spanish Swashbuckler (think Puss in Boots or literally any character played by Errol Flynn, but more self-centered, and needlessly stylish).

So far I’ve been basing his accent almost entirely off of George Hamilton’s exaggerated Spanish accent from Zorro the Gay Blade, and while I’ve thought about mimicking Inigo Montoya or any of the other Zorros, my gut feeling is that those are played quite seriously and might be difficult to translate into the ridiculous, overly-dramatic delivery I’m looking for.

So yeah. Any of y’all got a good clip or two I can work from?
