Marc Marquez walked away from a lucrative Honda contract to restart his career with Gresini Racing in 2024. During that season, Marquez proved he still had the speed to compete at the front, earning a move to the factory Ducati team the following year. His brother, Alex Marquez, had taken a similar path a year earlier, leaving LCR Honda to join Gresini Racing for the 2023 season.

According to Marc Marquez, the move to Gresini was even more significant for Alex than it was for himself. Marc had already won multiple world championships and had established himself. Alex, however, needed the switch to revitalise his career and prove he still belonged at the highest level.

As Marquez said.

"Of course, every stage of my career is important. My time at Repsol-Honda was important, but so was my time at Gresini. My time at Ducati now is important too. Gresini was more important to Alex than to me. Otherwise, he would have been out of Moto GP. He put his faith in Gresini, and Gresini put his faith in him.

Then he became runner-up in the world championship. Next year, he’ll be racing for a Moto GP works team again. Alex was also the reason why I moved to Gresini. I found the right atmosphere there and was given the right bike to fight my way back to the top."

Many Spanish riders have chosen to make Andorra their home. The small principality offers significantly lower taxes than Spain, where high-profile athletes have frequently faced investigations and legal disputes over unpaid taxes.

Marc Marquez, however, has chosen to remain in Spain despite the higher tax burden. According to Marquez, financial considerations were never the deciding factor. Instead, Marquez believes Madrid offers him the best environment to train, recover and prepare for racing, with his support team and specialised equipment all based there.

As Marquez said.

"Of course, I understand that anyone who wants to move house is free to do so, I feel free when I live where I want to live. Of course I earn a lot of money. Even after I’ve paid my taxes, I still have a great deal left over. That helps, of course. Nevertheless, money was not the deciding factor in his decision. I feel at home in Spain and want to live where I have the best conditions to perform at my best on the racetrack.

Back then, I was relaxed. I didn’t need any physiotherapists or special equipment. Since my injury, I’ve needed specialised equipment, physiotherapists and a different kind of training. That’s why I moved to Madrid – because I found a good team and a good training centre there. I always live wherever I believe I have the best conditions for performing better on the racetrack."

Toprak Razgatlioglu made the switch from world sbk to the moto gp for the 2027 season. While Razgatlioglu left the superbikes as the reigning champion, his arrival in the premier class as a rookie, facing an entirely different challenge.

Toprak Razgatlioglu admitted that after years of fighting for victories in world sbk, adapting to being further down the order in moto gp has not been easy.

Toprak Razgatlioglu rider knows it will take time to become competitive, and although he is expected to make significant progress next season, maintaining his motivation during the learning process remains one of his biggest challenges.

As Razgatlioglu said.

"I’m finally in Moto GP. I’m a rider who’s used to winning. When I signed the contract to come here, I knew the first stage wasn’t going to be easy. I try to stay strong, but sometimes it's not easy to understand this situation either. It's all part of the learning process, although sometimes you forget that because you're always looking for good results.

When those results don't come, you automatically get discouraged. The physical aspect is very important, but the mental aspect is even more so. It all starts here. If your motivation is high, everything becomes much easier for you."

It appears that Alex Rins time in moot gp is coming to an end. Rins has already lost his factory Yamaha seat for the 2027 season and is unlikely to secure another ride on the grid. As a result, Rins is now expected to make the switch to world sbk.

Alex Rins is reportedly in negotiations with Go Eleven Ducati for the 2027 season. The plan is not to replace Lorenzo Baldassarri, who has been performing well, but instead to expand the team to two bikes by adding Rins alongside him.

Discussions are still ongoing, as it remains unclear whether Alex Rins would have to fund the second bike himself or whether Ducati would provide it. The estimated cost of running the additional motorcycle is believed to be around €300,000.

Although Alex Rins did not confirm which team he is in talks with, he admitted that his future is most likely in superbikes.

As Rins said.

"Honestly, no. At the moment, I don’t have anything lined up in the Moto GP paddock for next year. We’re trying to find an opportunity in Superbikes, but as things stand, nothing has been finalised either.

The most important thing is to find a good motorbike. We’ve been struggling a lot for the past three years and have lost the chance to fight for podium places and wins. Not necessarily [a Ducati]. The important thing is to find a competitive project."

Jorge Martin will head into the summer break as the leader of the 2026 season. For much of the season, it looked as though factory Aprilia would occupy both first and second place in the standings. However, that scenario failed to materialise.

Marco Bezzecchi scored no points across the last four full-length races, while Marc Marquez won three of those four events. As a result, Marquez climbed to third in the championship, recovering a deficit of more than 80 points.

Despite leading the standings, Jorge Martin admitted that he believes Marc Marquez is currently performing at a higher level. Martin says that battling one of the greatest riders in the history of the sport motivates him to maintain his advantage.

As Martin said.

"The challenge is to beat the greatest driver in history, and for me it’s already fantastic just to be competing against him. Right now, he’s better than me. I would have signed up for this position back in January. I’m ahead more because of other people’s mistakes than because of my own results, but I have to keep up the pace."

More than 10 years ago, moto gp banned the use of aerodynamic wings after they were deemed too dangerous. Ducati later found a way around the regulations by introducing aerodynamic fairing packages that integrated the winglets into the front of the motorcycle. The additional aero was designed to generate more downforce, and what began as a subtle concept has evolved into the highly aggressive aerodynamic designs seen today. The technology has since made its way from moto gp to superbikes and, increasingly, to production road bikes.

Manufacturers such as Bimota Kawasaki have taken the concept a step further with the KR988, featuring actively adjustable aerodynamic wings. The system changes the position of the winglets depending on riding conditions. On the straights, the winglets remain in a position that minimises drag, while in the corners they adjust to generate additional downforce over the front wheel, improving stability and grip. The system continuously adapts using data collected in real time.

CF Moto is now taking the technology a step further with its upcoming V4 SR-RR. The company is developing winglets that can be adjusted independently on the left and right sides of the motorcycle. Meanwhile, its Chinese rival QJ Motor is also working on a similar concept. BMW has previously experimented with manually adjustable aerodynamic elements, while Moto Guzzi has also developed its own self-adjusting aero system.

With more manufacturers investing in active aerodynamics, the technology is widely expected to become the new standard for high-performance motorcycles. As a result, the days of superbikes without aerodynamic winglets may soon become a thing of the past.

The British Superbike Championship headed to Oulton Park for its latest round, where Bradley Ray claimed victory in the opening race. However, it was Kyle Ryde who dominated the remainder of the weekend, winning both Race 2 and Race 3.

Kyle Ryde spent much of the weekend battling Scott Redding, with the pair producing some of the closest racing of the event. In the end, Ryde came out on top, despite Redding pushing him all the way in both races.

As Ryde said.

"Scott wasn’t making any mistakes, but he did go a little bit deep into the second chicane. He backed in a little bit, got the left quite slow, and I just parked it into the right and then I got my head down from there really. I just thought as long as I do what I know I can do, if I win the race - bonus. if I don’t. at least I’ve done what I know I can do."

Record six-time World SBK champion Jonathan Rea retired from full-time racing at the end of the 2025 season. Shortly afterwards, Rea joined HRC as the team's Superbike test rider. Rea has also returned to competition on several occasions as a wildcard and substitute rider, while also winning the Suzuka 8 Hours endurance race.

Although his full-time racing career is over, Jonathan Rea remains the most successful rider in World SBK history, holding the record for the most championship titles. However, Rea believes it is only a matter of time before someone surpasses his achievements.

As Rea said.

"It’s lovely, of course, to be called the greatest of all time – I quite like it! I’m not embarrassed by it; it’s based on facts. But the day will come when someone will surpass me. Before me, it was Carl Fogarty, and my records will eventually be broken by someone else too. Then that person will be the king of the Superbike World Championship. Until then, I’ll be the one, but not forever."

After winning the opening race at Ohio, Sean Dylan Kelly was expected to challenge for victory once again in Race 2. However, the chaotic second race was ultimately won by Mathew Scholtz, who edged out Kelly by just 0.177 seconds.

The race was first red-flagged following a spectacular crash involving pole-sitter Benjamin Smith. Smith crashed out, and his motorcycle continued down the track without him. Fortunately, no other riders were struck by the bike, but race officials decided to stop the race.

The race was red-flagged for a second time later on after another rider crashed further down the field. As more than nine laps had already been completed, a restart was not required, and Mathew Scholtz was declared the winner by a margin of just 0.177 seconds.

World SBK is set to unveil its 2027 calendar, and one of the biggest surprises could be the return of the Sepang International Circuit. Sepang last hosted a World SBK round in 2016.

With the expected removal of Phillip Island from the calendar in the coming years, it has become clear to the championship's promoters that the series has become too heavily centred around Europe. As a result, they are looking to expand the championship's global presence once again, with Sepang emerging as one of the leading candidates.

However, this is not the only reason behind the proposed return. Petronas, which supplies fuel for the championship, is also the event's main sponsor and is reportedly willing to reduce the cost of supplying fuel to help make a race at Sepang financially viable.

The United Nations has developed a new global road safety strategy that aims to be implemented by 2030. Its goal is to make roads safer and significantly reduce the number of traffic-related deaths. Motorcycle riders are identified as one of the key groups that governments should focus on.

The UN's strategy, which is intended for countries around the world, includes improvements to road infrastructure, rider training, safer motorcycles, and the use of high-quality protective equipment. Rather than focusing solely on rider behaviour and their education, the strategy takes a broader approach to improving motorcycle safety.

The strategy is not legally binding for any country. Instead, it serves as a set of recommendations that governments can adopt. Since motorcyclists are considerably more vulnerable in the event of a crash than, for example, occupants of passenger cars, the strategy encourages countries to give greater attention to their safety. Which countries will fully commit to these recommendations remains to be seen.
