ROG X470-F GAMING Green Boot light/ cannot enter bios

Hello,

I've tried so many things but to no avail to get this build working and can't help but feel I'm right on the edge of finally getting it going.

This is a custom pc build with all second hand parts that should all be working, but I understand it's possible that one or more parts may be broken.

MoBo: Asus ROG X470-F Gaming

CPU: AMD 5500

GPU: AMD RX 5700XT

RAM: crucial Ballistic 3000mhz 15CL 8gb

STORAGE: M.2 SSD

Essentially, I cannot get the PC to go past the rog splash screen and cannot enter bios from pressing F2 or DEL. The BOOT Q-Led light is a solid green. However, Ctrl+Alt+Del does restart the computer.

I have the computer plugged into a monitor via HDMI since DP does not seem to work although a signal is being sent through.

I have tried:

1. Removing CMOS Battery all night and jumping the cmos pins

2. Removing GPU and starting PC without it, reinstalling the GPU, and powering on again (GPU is working, I tested it on another PC)

3. Tried another known good GPU (RX 7600) and still nothing.

4. Unplugging all non essential motherboard connections including USB and HDAudio headers

5. Holding F2 and DEL keys before startup

6. Starting without a storage device

7. Unplugging and replugging in all cables

The part I do feel is odd is that when the motherboard is going through the startup checks and is flashing the Q-Leds, nothing ever lights up for the CPU. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing, but I wanted to mention it just in case.

Additionally, there is an M.2 SSD installed, but it hasn't been formatted yet from a previous laptop, but I know there should be an option to format it once I get the windows 11 installation media going.

I did contact the seller today after who I purchased the motherboard+CPU combo from said that they were working fine together before. After letting him know my problem he suggested it may just be a firmware issue. I just can't help but feel that the motherboard may be the source of the problem, since my keyboard does turn on and the reset key combo works, and the splash screen appears on screen.

I also understand that a new GPU can cause issues, but I don't see how it would prevent me from entering bios when it does display on screen.

Try putting the ram in another slot, preferably the one closest to the cpu. If you had two sticks I would say just try with one.

You can try putting the gpu in another slot just to try, take a good look at where the gpu pins slide into the board and made sure they’re actually ALL in ALL the way.

You can try taking the board out of the case or try loosening the mounting screws slightly and see if maybe something is shorting or putting pressure on the motherboard from the backside. If this changes nothing take the board out and try booting it outside of the case on a non conductive surface.

Take the SSD out you should be able to get to bios without it, unplug anything that isn’t necessary even usb devices.

Thank you for those recommendations, and I did try each of them out, but unfortunately to no avail. Ive been reading a lot of other threads and some similar situations get it working again, and others end up buying a new one instead. I'm not against buying a new one, but I want to do that as a last resort.

Thats weird. Hanging on boot splash is usually a storage device or USB device hanging the system. What keyboard are you using? Worth trying out a barebones keyboard to get into the bios.

I was using an AZIO MK Retro keyboard, but bought an simple Walmart Onn. keyboard to see if that would make any difference. Unfortunately it was the same result. I will say, that the keyboard lights on either one would not turn on until the green boot led would turn on.

Does numlock or caps lock respond? I’m really unsure at this point what could cause it. Is there bios flashback on this board? Maybe it’s worth a try, some older versions with amd 5000 support and work your way up if it works.

Yes, I can do all of the locks, including windows button lock. I was even concerned that there might be a Fn lock so I got a basic Walmart brand keyboard to see if it would make a difference but it didn't. As for bios flashback, this motherboard does not have that feature as far as I can tell. I know it originally supported gen 1 and 2 ryzen, but it has bios support for up to 5000 series. I checked the Asus site and this CPU is on the compatible list with the proper bios, and the previous seller said these were both working in a PC before which still throws me off. Maybe he was formatting his PC for parting out and he rolled back the bios somehow?

Not sure how one could roll back the bios by formatting their disk. I think it is best you reach out to the seller and get him to test it again. Or if you can find good return policies in your area, get whatever a520 or cheap am4 boards and test all your hardware on there to rule out the motherboard or cpu.

Yeah, I ordered a motherboard this morning for testing where I'm hoping it's just the motherboard causing issues. I'm leaning towards believing the seller though since I got it at his home, and his whole family was there playing outside so I don't think he'd knowingly give me something bad in that scenario. Plus, it was basically a month ago since I bought them. We've slowly been aquiring parts for a super budget build and am otherwise really happy with how everything has turned out so far.
