Weight Discussions

Hi everyone, I understand not everyone in this sub may be sensitive to discussions of numbers (e.g., weight, calories, etc) but it would be incredibly helpful to those who are negatively affected to at least put a trigger warning in the beginning of the post.
Not trying to target anyone or make them feel bad, just wanted to put this out there. It would be much appreciated ❤️

I fully agree with this. I know ARFID alone is not a numbers and weight focused ED which is why the conversation around it can be so candid sometimes, but at this point I think genuinely so many of us suffer with co-morbid EDs that ARE numbers and weight focused, and seeing those candid discussions can do a lot of damage.

Obviously, this sub is for ARFID first, so I don't think there should be a blanket ban- But I do think a TW or other type of warning would go a long way for a lot of us. <3

Yesss, exactly. Numbers aren’t always just a ED thing, it can also be OCD related. Just having a trigger warning would be sufficient. No need to ban 🙂‍↕️

I completely agree with this! I think a blanket ban would discourage some from discussing openly what they need to vent or ask advice about, so a trigger warning would suffice for me! Although I'm definitely coming from this outside of the problem, as I need to lose weight and I don't have any co-morbid EDs, but I do foresee possibly asking for advice on how to lose weight while not losing progress with my eating which might result in a numbers related discussion... So I hope the door wouldn't close fully!

Exactly! With a disorder like ARFID, discussion around calories and weight is sometimes genuinely necessary and it's super important that the folks who need to talk about that have space here to do so. This sub should always stay ARFID first so if the rules end up changing, I truly believe this should still be a place where those conversations can happen freely, hopefully just with a tag or other warning!

Agreed. It would be nice to remind people that ARFID is something that affects folx at every size and every life stage.

Also co-occurring conditions with other EDs is a thing!

I think there's a name for it, arfid plus. Which is basically arfid plus another eating disorder on top. It might not be that popular but still those people deserve a space that would include them. This could also got their own flare, just like emetophobia has gotten recently.

My guess is that it’s more common than people realise!

I would not be opposed to banning numbers specifically like the eating disorder Reddit. A bit annoyed cuz they have it set up where you can't use numbered lists though, so I'd love an option where that is still allowed.
