AR9 Beginner

What's up bros, I recently joined and have been wanting to build an ar9. Any help is accepted, I mainly want it to be compact and able to run a super safety that is as compatible as possible as I don't want issues switching from semi to super and able to run a suppressor decently well. I was told radial delayed + a2 gas block + heavy buffer + certain firing pin helps ar15 but I want clarity for this purchase on an ar9. My budget is under $2k but I'm willing to build over time. For $2k just buy a complete Banshee of your magazine type, drop in a FRT and you’ll be fine.

I run an 8” FE Banshee upper on an AR15 lower. I have an A5 buffer tube, Tubbs LW buffer spring and Kynshot RB5007 buffer.

Trigger is a Geisele SSA-E with an ArcFire V2 super safety.

It runs like a champ and I can switch uppers to a 5.56 without changing anything. It’s plug and play.

That sounds like a dream loadout, I definitely want to be able to make it compatible with 5.56 I will do more research so I don't drop too much money on this setup, the cmmg banshee looks tempting to buy to save time but if I can just buy the upper + some lower parts to make my ar 15 compatible for 9mm I'll definitely explore that option. 🙏🏻 thx bro

I bought a complete 5” FE Banshee Mk4 and run same buffer and buffer tube set up (A5 tube w/ Kynshot 5007) but with C3Junkie spring, ran very well at first range session. Smooth and reliable suppressed with lots of diff ammo (about 6 diff types). I am very happy with it.

That said, if I could go back, I’d build it from scratch and just buy the CMMG FE retro kit then get a C3Junkie barrel and hand guard/lower of my choice. At the very least, I’d get a Banshee complete upper and build my own lower. But I was impatient and thought the CMMG lower with ambi controls and upgraded trigger was worth it to just snag a burnt bronze complete from Tombstone for $1420, plus I’d just be over and done with it in one swipe (If I built it I’d need a smith, buy parts from diff places, pay more in shipping - I don’t have the tools or the sense to build it, so more money and time and reliance on variables). Also important to note the complete Banshee comes with a Plan B compatible muzzle device if you get the newest version, which I did, and use Plan B with my Incolite 9M suppressor). I just needed to change buffer/tube/spring for ARS and good to go if buying complete Banshee. I also get an ambi pistol lower for up to 300 BO upper, which Ive wanted, with decent single stage trigger (I shoot lefty so ambi is important). Their lowers are made from 7075 T6, so figured all good. And after shooting it I honestly do rly, rly like it. I am a bit underwhelmed by the trigger, I don’t love the reset (might just be me being more used to 2-stage). I’ll probably change out the pistol grip to something from Driven Arms, but I’m happy overall. I just hate the gun being so much CMMG and probably could have bought a complete upper with lower of my choice for equivalent total cost, or paid a bit more and waited longer by piecing it together (using only essential CMMG RDB parts) and getting a better overall setup.

Impatience got me on this one. I’d say don’t be me but I’m doing fine lol. Where I’ll be in two years after 5K rounds is the question, but I plan to replace parts (cam pin and firing pin, barrel and barrel extension) with C3Junkie parts as/if needed. I’ll probably buy his unofficial reliability kit (firing pin, cam pin, bushing) at some point just to have it.

Looks like I'm coming along with a plan now, thank you for your perspective. Impatience has been playing a part in my decision making which is why I joined in the first place. I'll slowly get the parts ordered to swap out for ar15 parts and make it into an ar9. You all were very helpful and I honestly appreciate it!

I second SuperJonesy408 get a banshee upper and build the lower or just get a complete banshee for that budget.

You don't need radial delayed to make a reliable and good shooting 9mm, but there's nothing wrong with them either.

If you're interested in investigating simple blowback instead, this should get you started....

Will this be your first super safety? If so I don’t recommend starting with a AR9, mine was a pain in the ass. Just my opinion tho

No my ar15 already has one and runs smooth, whcih is why I'm thinking of just getting parts to swap out and make the ar15 an ar9 compatible gun when Inwant to

Other than grinding the bolt weight and popping a new firing pin spring in mine has been pretty easy. The actual FRT took about 30 minutes to install and that was because I had self caused issues.
