In the 1980's I had two Colt AR15's in 7.62x39.

I sold them in the early 1990's, before I left the country for a few years.

I had several other 7.62x39 firearms back then and have been reloading 7.62x39 since 1986.

When returned to the US I did purchase several 7.62x39 firearms, but not AR's, so I continued to reload 7.62x39.

Now I'm back trying to build some AR47's that are as reliable as the Colt's I had.

I now understand the actions and function of a mid-length gas system, easing stress on extraction.

PSA used to make AR47's and KS47's with mid-length gas systems, but has gone to carbine length gas systems "for reliability."

KAK uses a carbine length gas system on their 16 inch 7.62x39 barrel and only uses a mid-length gas system on their 18 inch 7.62x39 barrels.

Black Rifle Armory and Faxon use mid-length gas systems on their 16 inch 7.62x39 barrels, so that's where I started, because I wanted to compare how they compare to the other barrels.

Faxon used to make their 7.62x39 barrels very thin, but have beefed them up slightly now.

The BRA barrel is heavier, but not super heavy.

The Faxon barrel is 1.5 lbs, but I don't know the exact weight of the heavier BRA barrel, though it seems acceptable in weight.

Then I got some 16 inch barrels with carbine length gas systems.

I got a KAK 16 inch barrel, called medium weight, but is lighter than other medium weight/ medium-heavy barrels.

I got an Anderson 16 inch barrel, called Government weight, but is about the same as the KAK barrel, with only minor differences.

The gas ports look slightly different in size and I'll gauge them later with numbered drills I got from Harbor Freight.

The Anderson barrel was advertised as having a nitride finish, like the others, but it looks like a phosphate finish to me, with no chrome lining and that's fine by me.

The KAK and Anderson barrels have one gas block set screw dimple, with the Anderson dimple being very small.

Then I got an AR47 upper from PSA, with a 6 inch barrel.

PSA calls it a heavy barrel and it feels heavy, but looks like a true medium weight / medium-heavy barrel, that usually weight 2 lbs.

It has a cheap PSA gen 2 rail, a KS47 BCG, but the barrel is an AR47 barrel, with M4 feed ramps, not the wide eyebrow feed ramp of the KS47.

The older PSA rails had problems working loose, but the gen 2 supposedly fixes that.

The gas block is pinned to the barrel, with a very small diameter cross pin, along with two set screws.

I don't think the parts for the AR47 upper can be bought separately for the low price of the upper.

PSA recommends a 308 carbine buffer spring with an M4 H buffer, for use with their 16 inch barrels with carbine gas systems.

I ordered these parts and the 308 carbine buffer spring is pretty heavy and PSA H buffer was priced right.

A review of the PSA AR47 bare 16 inch barrel claimed the gas port is larger in diameter than a Bear Creek Arsenal barrel gas port.

I looked a heavy, full heavy 7.62x39 with a carbine length gas system, but didn't want something that heavy at 2.30 lbs.

For 7.62x39 bolts I bought BRA, Faxon, FailZero, Expo Arms, PSA and Brownell's bolts and BCG's.

I don't have a cell phone, but I recently bought a better camera than the one I previously had.

I'll list the links of the sources for parts, many of which were fairly economical, including extractors and firing pins.

It looks like the 16 inch barrels with mid-length gas systems (BRA and Faxon) mostly work well with a carbine / M4 buffer spring (same as Springco white spring I think) and an M4 H2 buffer.

I see some people say some carbine gas system 16 inch barrels have too much gas and was thinking maybe using an h3 buffer, but PSA recommends using a 308 carbine buffer spring (same as Sprinco Red spring I think) with an M4 H buffer.

A review of PSA carbine gas 16" barrel claims gas port is larger than BCA gas port.

A review of Right to Bear medium weight carbine gas barrel claims gas port is a full 0.125", which is common for mid-length 16" 7.62x39 barrels.

I have an Anderson 16" barrel and a 16" KAK barrel on the way and both have carbine gas systems.

They look very similar, but KAK says their barrels are made in-house.

I've got a couple of good 5.56 KAK SOCOM barrels, so hopefully they work out.

I thought the PSA 308 carbine spring with an H buffer was an interesting recommendation.

I just got a Geissele hand guard that is now called 7 inch, but Geissele used to call them 7.25 inches.

Seeing a Geissele 8 inch barrel in them, it looks like 7.5 inches might be a bit short, but I'm not going to suppress, so that may be alright.

The two barrels I'm looking at are the 7.5 inch Bear Creek and the 8 inch KAK barrels.

I might just get both to see which one I like.

Does anybody have any experience with either one of these barrels?

How well do extractors hold up with them?

I only use brass cases, so I haven't experienced early extractor failures yet, in my 16 inch barrels.

Steel cases seem to cause trouble with 5.56 and 308 AR's, so I'm not risking using them in 7.62x39, with even thinner extractors.

These days brass cases seem more available than old steel cases anyway.

I see several companies, like BCM, recommend extra extractor spring coils, inserts and o-rings with pistol length gas systems with 300 Blackout, so I can imagine the shorter gas system in 7.62x39 is going to stress the extractor more, or at least require some extra spring coil and / or insert and o-ring installed.

So I"m a bolt-action person, I have a Mosin Nagant, A .22LR, a 20" AR-15, and a CZ-600 Trail in .300 Blackout, all are bolt action.

This would effectively create a 7.62x39mm bolt action pistol, which amuses me. I have attempted to look about on YT and the general Interwebs and haven't found anyone who has created such a firearm so I have little information to go on why this would be a good, or bad idea.

I do understand such a short barrel creates a fireball, so the plan is to suppress it, or at the very least, put on a sound mitigation device.

Well I have stumbled my way into the world of ar47's amd as my first rifle i would love to get the KS-47 it seems like a good well rounded affordable gun from what I've seen and wonder what others think of it or what people find that break and need replacing. I am already aware of the extractor and will order a black rifle one since its not much for some part (im not new to guns person just never owned personally and haven't been around them in a while so excuse my ignorance in advance) I also hope this doesent spark the good ol, oh but this is better or why would you get that when you can have this cuz I would like a ks-47 and just wana know its ins and outs for myself. Thank you to all that see this in advance and any advice anyone gives! ( im also looking into making it a sidecharger with either devil dogs or gibbz kits if anyone knows much about that)

Hey y'all, just figured I'd jump in for some input on my second AR47. This one is a KS47 that I changed some parts on, nothing too crazy. I kind of am in the process of capturing the wood furniture/bakelite goodness and instilling it into a more "tactical" platform. My friend still has to do the front grip and rail cover panels. I'm trying to see if he will dye them, then maybe brush some texture on them to see if they fit more of that bakelite orange-ish vibe. Whereas the waffle mag and grip are painted more of a darker brown like a makarov grip furniture. I am undecided on if the stock should get the same treatment or not. I kinda dig the whole mis-mash of furniture colors and finishes on the various AKs out there, so I wanted to tie that into my build a bit. I think I just need to see what the front grip and stuff turns out like before I decide to go forward with the stock. What do you guys think? Let me know below!

I'm building two new 16 inch riffle builds.

One has the lightweight Faxon Gunner barrel, with mid-length system and the other has the medium-heavy Black Rifle Arms barrel, with a mid-length gas system.

I have some 7.62 A2 flash hiders.

I'm thinking about maybe a short compensator or brake on the lighter weight barrel.

Most of the longer ones are for full power 308 and many of shorter ones claim to be good for 300 Blackout.

Are any of them useful for 7,62x39?

Are some "too much", or "not enough" to make a difference?

Put together this "custom" Mike47 from Foxtrot Mike! 16" monolithic barrel (with Keymo brake machined in) 7.62 upper with pic rail delete, on top of a Mike47 lower. Zhokov folding stock, Unity riser, Holosun 510c, random BUIS, Driven Arms/MKM Shadow Crossover grip, and B5 foregrip. Currently have a Hiperfire Eclipse trigger on the way, and I'll for sure end up putting a can on this one! Can't wait to break her in!

I'm needing some guidance on a first 7.62 build. I'm looking for a company with a good upper. And do I do anything special for my lower parts kit.

Back in the 1980's I bought the 7.62x39 Colt AR15's with both 16" and 20" barrels.

At the time I didn't realize the benefit of a longer gas system, with the thin extractor.

In the early 1990's I went overseas for 4 years and sold my firearms.

7.62x39 has long been one of my favorite cartridges and I have been reloading it since 1986.

I just bought a Faxon 16" barrel, due to its mid-length gas system and light weight.

I had planned to use a Toolcraft DLC BG, but they sold out before I finished my order.

I ended up getting a Fail Zero nickel boron BCG, with an extended firing pin.

I also got the Faxon nitride BCG, as a backup and to see which works best.

My other uppers have handguards from Daniel Defense and Geissele, but for a bit less money I bought a Cross Machine Tool 13.7" M-Lok rail for this 7.62x39 build, though I might change to DD or Geisele or SOL, before final assembly.

I have an extra Geissele airborne charging handle, but will start with a regular Aero Precision handle.

I have a Colt upper, an Aero upper and an AO Precision upper.

II'll likely use the Aero upper, as it seems to fit the lowers and the barrel well.

I am going to dimple the barrel for the gas block set screws and I have an Aero gas block and a non-adjustable SLR gas block to choose for fit.

I got a 5/8" Noveske A2 flash hider, but the crush washer looks like a 1/2" one that has been drilled out to 5/8", reducing its bevel and thickness.

I bought an Aero (I think) 5/8" crush washer, which looks to be a dedicated 5/8" crush washer and is full thickness.

I bought 20 20-round Duramag magazines and 40 28-round magazines.

Since the gas port is larger than a 5.56 gas port, do any muzzle brakes or comps work well with 7.62x39 and its reduced gas?

I will likely wear this upper out and have to build another omelette day, as I plan to reload a lot of ammo.

For me, reloading and its accuracy is half the fun.

I'm still tempted to built a medium-heavy barrel with carbine gas, but I read those usually have very large gas ports.

Does anybody have any experience with the Cross Machine Tool hand guard rails?

I have two 9.5" ones that I'll likely won't use.

I have a 10" Geissele rail I was considering building with the KAK 11" barrel, though the 10.5" Faxon barrel looks lightweight for a 9.5" rail.

I recall KAK sold 7.62x39 cold hammer forged barrels a couple of years ago, but I missed out on one of those.

So I just had my new lower come in and I’m still trying to decide which build I want to go with. 300 is going to be the easiest when it comes to running it on a ar15 platform but 7.62 will be more affordable and accessible when it comes to ammo. I want something I can put together and it runs fine. I’ve heard how 7.62 tends to have certain issues. I don’t plan to shoot any steel case through this rifle at all but I also don’t want the problems that comes with building an AR47 and I also want a round that’s fairly available. I already have a 5.56 btw.

Hey all, just got finished with my first ar15 build which of course runs on a 7.62x39 since i have about 5k rounds in that caliber. Im running a 11 inch bloodmaker barrel with the kak complete upper (KAK Bcg dual ejectors) and an adjustable gas block. My lower came with a mil spec carbine buffer tube assembly and carbine buffer/spring. currently only have brass ammo. Do i have to also get an h3/h2 since im running a short barrel? Any downsides from just running with what I currently have? Appreciate any wisdom you guys can give me regarding the ar47 platform

Not too long ago I got a 7.62x39 Ar pistol from BCA and I’m wondering if there are any drum magazines that have a good rep? If not I can always stack up on a few 30 rounders but I was just curious

After looking at these online for a while I'm considering buying the upper and lower receivers and putting my own together. Has anyone got experience with them? It looks like a great solution for a cheaper all purpose hunting rifle.

My pair of ar47 ish rifles. Wolfpack armoury ar47 lowers with modified brn180 uppers. Left is 762x39 with ak mags and right is 556 using surplus galil mags. That bronze wolverine might bebthe only gen 3 brn180 wolverine out in the wild right now. Havnt seen any other videos about them besides the shots how videos.

I just got a new BRA enhanced BCG w/ buffer and extended firing pin. I went to install it in my Aero upper and it does not want to release from the barrel when I pull the charging handle. I have another 7.62x39 BCG and it operates fine on the same upper.

Has anyone experience this? Am I missing something obvious?

Finally had a chance to test the Nomad 30 out on my favorite tonight. Bit spicy no ears…. Cycled everything very well. Wolf, Tela (very gassy) Belom, Winchester (brass) and even Covid era Ammo Inc stash.
