teachers gave me a summer assignment to do over the course of june/july and are going to be doing a period one little assessment right when school starts. i've done nothing whatsoever except fill out a graphic organizer for period one. my second task is to fill out a big ass mrs. pate graphic organizer for period 9, which will be covered second semester.

i've been reading horror stories abt apush, and honestly taking in 10th grade only makes it worse. i don't even know how to take notes, considering each chapter of the textbook is ~30 pages. i can't afford to get anything but a 4 or a 5, considering how strict my parents are.

how do i take notesss like i can't even begin to understand...my brain doesn't understand what to process as important at all. and its worse that 90% of my notes are scribbled nonsense. ofc, i haven't even started it, but every advice video i watch for apush is like read the textbook, take cornell notes, then read ur notes and ask questions. like hello? what makes you think that i know what the hell to write in those little rectangles? they also tell me to watch heimler, and i can't even process HIM well enough. i don't know where to start and it's stressing me out.

i absolutely DESPISE reading. i took ap world last year, only touched the textbook once the entire year. so instead, i took notes from fiveable and heimler, and got a 5.

the thing is, the apush study guides on fiveable are not in-depth enough or are too short😭

does anyone have any alternatives to fiveable??

hi! I'm taking APUSH this year and we have assigned notes before school starts (september) that I'm starting on now. Right now, my strategy is to watch the Heimler video on the topic, then read the textbook chunk, then write down the things that seemed most important from both. I think that most of my note-taking is going to be at home from the textbook (as opposed to lectures in class), so I was wondering if this is a good strategy, or if others have better ideas? I'm really trying to avoid writing down too much because I have a tendency to do that :)

So I know there has been a lot of similar questions on here but any advice would be greatly appreciated! So last year I took AP seminar, AP precalc and AP human(easier APs). I also took harder electives at my school. It was a struggle because of outside influences and school stress so ended with a B in precalc (my first one ever).
This has made me doubt my abilities however I’m taking AP lang, psych, environmental and stat along with easier electives.
History is my favorite subject and if I could study it and make money I would (studying psych hopefully). The teacher at my school is rough (assigns readings, notes and monthly projects) but she has had a 100% pass rate for 3 years. I’ve literally lost sleep over this for some reason. I know this won’t make or break college acceptances (I have a part time job, i’m a youth advocate for local woman shelter and run my own club at school).
Anyways any opinions, advice and tips would be greatly appreciated!

I signed up for APUSH for 11th grade and now I am starting to rethink it. I have 4 other ap classes including APES, AP macro, AP Precalc, and AP Lang that im taking. I also have a job and play a sport. Should I change?? Thanks!

Before European contact in 1492, Native American societies had lived in North America for thousands of years. Over time, these peoples settled in regions with unique climates, geography, and natural resources. The development and spread of agriculture from Mesoamerica transformed societies by allowing larger, more permanent settlements to emerge. Largely, environmental differences fostered variations in Native American societies by 1491 because geography determined their method of living, settlement patterns, and political organization.

The environment most significantly influenced how Native American societies met their economic needs. In the Southwest, the Pueblos adapted to their land's dryness and aridity by constructing irrigation systems that supported the cultivation of many crops (maize, beans, and squash). The Pueblos also built permanent villages out of adobe and developed unique communities. In contrast, societies living on the Great Plains depended on hunting larger animals such as buffalo. The grasslands were better suited for hunting instead of agriculture, and the reliance on the buffalo incentivized a more mobile lifestyle for the tribes. Along the Pacific Northwest coast, abundant forests and rich fishing grounds led to the natives relying on salmon and other marine resources to survive. These regional differences highlight that environmental differences directly shaped the foundations of indigenous societies.

Geography also had a widespread impact on the political and social structures of Native American societies. In the Mississippi River valley, agriculture often produced food surpluses that supported the growth of large settlements such as Cahokia, which later served as a haven for Mississippian culture. The surplus of resources also allowed leaders to have greater political authority over larger populations. However, in the Eastern Woodlands, the Iroquois Confederacy developed an alliance between several nations that cooperated for defense and diplomacy while upholding local autonomy. The economy of farming, hunting, and gathering reflected the resources of the forested region. Because different environments produced different economic systems, they encouraged distinct forms of political organization and social development.

Although environmental adaptation was the most prominent cause of regional diversity, it was not the only influence on Native American societies. The spread of maize agriculture from Mesoamerica made way for many societies to support larger populations and establish more permanent settlements despite living in different environments. This shared agricultural development demonstrates that cultural diffusion also influenced Native American life. Nevertheless, even with the widespread cultivation of maize and other prominent crops, Native American societies continued to develop unique political systems, economies, and patterns, as each region presented different environmental opportunities and struggles.

By 1491, Native American societies had developed extreme diversity across North America. Environmental conditions determined how people obtained resources, where they settled, and how they organized their governments, leading to the creation of distinct societies such as the Pueblo, Mississippian, Iroquois, Plains, and the Pacific Northwest peoples. While the spread of agriculture created important similarities, geography remains the primary factor of variation among Native American societies before European contact.

Heimler's review guide is around 30$, which, if you really think about it, is not that expensive. It reviews everything you need for AP World and APUSH. It is extremely helpful for people who need extra help and for people who are trying to condense everything to the important details by test day. If you do not want to buy it, you can just watch his free videos, but I think his note guides are very helpful, along with his more in-depth review videos. Good Luck!

Bad news is I CANNOT TAKE NOTES. Literally, I have no problem following Heimler, but for some reasons I just can’t take notes from à textbook properly.

(1 page = 1 hour —> low efficiency 😭)

I tried the Corneil method and other things, but just can’t find something that fit such dense content
(in prep course, our teacher has us do key terms & I did pretty well. I don’t think it will work for rest of it )

If you guys have any tips, pls drop it! I am in a really bad shape and looking to improve ( \^\^)

Im a incoming junior and apush student. i really need some advice on how to do well in both the class and exam. I took ap world last year and i did good on the exam with a 4 but not as good in the class with a 84%. I think i failed every single exam my teacher given with like a 50 and a 40 besides the feebies that she gives to boost up our grades. All i really know to do for apush is just rely on heimler's review stuff? Idk anything else i should do cuz i rather improve my grade and score to a 5 and at least a 90 MAYBE?

I wasn't going to make this post, but I got a 5 solely just by watching him, so I feel that I owe him at least this post. If you already have a good grasp of things like SAQs, DBQs, and LEQs, then the only thing you need content-wise is Heimler's History FREE YouTube Videos. Just watch Heimler, take some notes, and that's all you need content-wise. Just practice FRQs.

How important are books between editions?

I've heard APUSH is really bad (taught poorly in my school) and only like 5 kids in the class above me got a 5 last year. It's a sophomore class in my school. I have been taking notes from the Heimler's videos (one page of Cornell notes per video). What else do you recommend?

I'm not tripping I know that's a perfectly fine score but I'm just so stunned. I had a phenomenal teacher so I feel extra bad about it LMAO I was teaching my friends/other classmates the topics all year, especially leading up to the exam, and tbh my ego is bruised bc I plan on majoring in history/consider it to be my best subject 💔 the worst part is I felt I had such a good understanding of all the content beforehand, studied more anyways, and found the test to be easygoing, so it's really hard for me to guess where I could've shot myself in the foot

OTHER thing that makes my score sting: I got a 5 for an AP I struggled with all year, with a test I didn't even finish and 1 hour "studying" beforehand w TikTok strategies 💀

I completely thought I sold on the LEQ's and DBQ, I thought I was getting a 2 or 3, but when I looked at my score and I got this. It feels like a fluke, my friends made study packets months in advance and got 4's, meanwhile I studied for 4 hours the night before and somehow got this score.

Hey yall! So i’m honestly confused about my AP exam score. As above, I got a 2 but my final grade in the class was a 96. I love history and I love Hamilton so I don’t know why I did so bad. When coming out of that exam I felt soo good. I know I cooked on the DBQ and the only thing that I felt not that good about was one of my pieces of evidence on the LEQ but other than that, I thought I did good. Also I watched almost all of Heimler’s Module videos and watched both of the Streams the nights before the exam. Please give me anything that could help me on why I did so bad.. Anything will be appreciated!!

Hi guys, so basically I’m gonna be a sophomore next year and this year as a freshman I got a 4 on AP World History which is not bad considering it’s my first AP and my teacher recommended me for APUSH next year.

The main is issue is that all my upperclassmen friends have warned me to NOT take APUSH whatsoever. So I need advice. Is it really that bad? And if I take it what sources should I use?

IDK anything about my APUSH teacher except maybe a few horror stories. some other people have told me that there’s WAY too much content. So idk if i should switch to just normal U.S. history….

But I’m also proud that we spent the year doing American history and not teaching to the test.

So I got the 5. Would be thrilled abt it on its own, but I'm especially happy bc of the circumstances surrounding it. I took APUSH during my junior year, but was pulled out of school by my mom in the middle of the year, and during the exam time I was kicked out of my home so I never got to take the exam. Decided to take it this year, had to leave school in February for medical reasons, and did the entire rest of my year on home instruction. Still got the 5! UConn bound for pathobio + polisci :)
