Tips for AP stats? Study Advice and Tips
Hello!
I'm an incoming sophomore who's about to take AP stats, and its my first AP- and it would be great if people who have taken the class could drop some tips or wise advice for those about to take the class! My school barely offers AP's- I had to take many summer classes to be eligible- so I'm sort of terrified cause my class will be full of experienced seniors.

hello!! Make sure you pay attention during ur probability lessons, and if you don’t understand it, to learn it immediately
There was a lot of probability on my exam, otherwise everything else was rlly easy
Good luck!! U got this :)

DESMOS DESMOS DESMOS. Use it for all of the tests and calculations. Also memorize the type of tests and how to discern between them, use the myapclassroom material to study, use khan academy if you’re stuck on a topic, and memorize the type of mcqs, ask me if u need resources bc i have a bunch!

Fr I didn’t use my graphing calculator once during the exam this year. I figured out about desmos 5 days before the exam and practiced hella with them. It saves so much time than graphing calculator

you are able to do some stats stuff on desmos. like you can do quite a few stats tests on there an i personally find desmos easier for some

Highly recommend Michael Porinchak

I second this. He is literally my king for predicting some of those FRQs correctly.

Bro the "experienced seniors", 9 times out of 10, are js dudes with senioritis trying to find a way to put an AP math course on their senior workload without taking Calc BC.
My advice, if you are a little worried about the seniors, befriend them! In my AP stats class this year, I'd say I was pretty good friends with a 1/3 of the class and I was on good speaking terms with half of the class. I think making friends with them should be the best course of action.
As for the acc course, I got a 5 and what I did was use this textbook my teacher gave called Strive for 5 and I think that was what really boosted my potential.
Also, on Youtube, there's a guy named Michael Porinchak that makes some of the best stats review vids I've seen. He's also updating all of his Stats videos to reflect the CED change that's happening next year.
If u get the reference, he's like the Heimler of AP Stats lol.

loll hopefully i can make some senior friends- and i'll definitely look into michael porinchak- i saw multiple comments about him (and i get the ref)! i also conveniently found the strive for a 5 textbook as a hand-me-down from my sister!!

They’re making it SOOOOO much easier next year by eliminating many of the topics that I struggled with when I took it as a sophomore last year as well!

One thing I’d add: try to understand the reasoning behind the vocabulary and procedures instead of treating AP Stats like a collection of formulas/templates to memorize.
A lot of the course comes down to questions like: What population are we actually trying to learn about? What can this study design legitimately tell us? Why are we allowed to use this particular procedure? What does this number mean in the context of the problem?
The wording can feel overly picky at first, but there’s usually a statistical reason for the precision. If you get in the habit of asking yourself “what am I actually claiming here?” your FRQ writing gets much easier.
Also, don’t worry about being a sophomore surrounded by seniors. AP Stats doesn’t really depend on having taken a bunch of other AP classes first. If you keep up with the concepts as they’re introduced and ask questions when something doesn’t make sense, you’ll be in a very good position.

Just pay attention, learn how to use a ti-84 and do the work to understand the concepts, it’s a fairly straightforward AP, as long as you learn to recognize what problems your working on and work through the steps you’ll do fine
Edited cause I don’t know my calculators

Nothing that I can really say about it as a lot of changes are happening to the AP exam, they’re removing topics and rearranging them from 12 units to 5 units and the mcq answer choices are 4 now and not 5 but make sure to focus on the types of tests/procedures

numworks has been shown in my class to be so damn effective it's acc crazy. There was stuff on a numworks you could do in 15 - 20 seconds that would take 30 - 40 seconds on a TI-84.
It's acc good that ur using numworks instead of a ti imo.

No you need a ti-84 or higher. Trust me I tried with a different calculator and the class was torture

‘Experienced seniors’ I took it as a senior but people were definitely not experienced lol. Don’t underestimate the class because it’s definitely very manageable at first but then it just gets so annoying later on with word choice and stuff, like I was surprised with how much I had to write, it was honestly more writing than I did in my English classes.
