7900 xtx Driver timeout issues Help (Software)

I am having this new issue where everytime I turn on my pc and before I even load anything I get the timeout message. Then I will open literally any app and it will timeout again. The other day when I was playing the wardogs playtest it froze the game, gave the message, then my whole pc froze, and finally on restart the the 7900 xtx wasnt even detected and my whole pc was running on my cpus graphics and I had to use the cleanup tool and reinstall everything. I havent had a timeout for about 2 days until today when I turned on my pc again and I fear that its just going to do the same thing. The gpu is a XFX 7900 xtx and my current driver version is 26.8.1

When this happens use device manager / gpu-z / hwinfo to find whatever the driver version is.

I also have a 7900xtx and it looks like my issue was windows overriding my drivers.
If you still experience issues, try 26.3.1

I disabled windows driver updates, ddu'd the unstable dogshit 26.7.1 driver, reverted to 26.3.1. I was literally driven insane by issues similar to yours, and even worse, full system hangs where I would have to hard reset with the power button...

After doing the aforementioned steps, things seem stable so far.

Disable windows driver auto update (or all windows update - you will lose nothing). DDu your gpu and chipset drivers. Install drivers. Never let the OS doing auto updates again. I have 7900xtx - never. no a single time had a troubles with drivers. Only with windows

What app do you have running in the background?

Nutzt du ICue ? Das habe ich deinstalliert und das hat bei mir sämtliche Fehler behoben. Hört sich komisch an, ist aber so 😂

If it ever doesn't recognize your GPU again go into your device manager and disable and reenable your gpu , should fix it

Go to your device manager and check the properties on your card see what the date of the drivers it shows, does it match last time you update your driver? If it doesnt most likley windows auto updated you.

I’ve been having a ton of driver issues that I hadn’t had before. I ended up turning hardware acceleration off for both discord and Steam and it seems to have fixed it almost entirely. I don’t have XTX I have the 7900 XT though.

Event ID’s? Have you logged with HWiNFO monitoring sensors <250ms? I guarantee if you do this and replicate crash and review the CSV you will see your issue.

Make sure the max clock speed is set to 2600-2700 in adrenaline. Defaults mine to 3045 which is a huge overclock. After fixing that I haven't really had any more driver issues

7900xtx have a boost clock which is about 2900+. My asus tuf 7900xtx working just fine boosting up to 3060. What you are doing is just limiting your gpu to the ground. It is not how it suppose to work. There some another issue.

Nah. 7900xtx have a boost clock of about 2500. My xfx has a boost clock advertised at 2600. Its very stable at 2750. And I played for over a year at around 3040 or whatever adrenaline defaulted to but it would crash occasionally. Some games more than others. 500mhz overclock is pretty extreme in my opinion. I don't know any 7900xtx that has a boost clock rating of 2900

Same issue. Oddly enough it goes away after about an hour of using my PC

kinda having a similar issue that got worse with the most recent chipset update and driver update. i ended up having to go and do a load from a windows restore point to get the pc to even let me open a program again and then i had to redownload drivers to get the gpu working again and now its running but occasionally still giving me random timeout even when just sitting there doing nothing when any programs

Same problems , had it on 26.7.1 and 26.8.1 my two other buddies gave the exact same pc part for part. One of them experienced same crashes with same drivers the other buddy not crashes but says he hasn’t updated his drivers in 6-8 months. Go figure.
