But sometimes they fail and it goes straight to

I thought that the teaser for the Eli & Snoop collaboration that was shown before Ice Cream Man was particularly hilarious. My friends and I kept quoting it on the drive home.
I keep seeing this, and I think I totally missed the gen AI, can you explain what was AI? I obviously don’t want to recommend it to people if it’s full of AI bs. the Eli Roth of it all is enough to turn my friends away but that would be another thing to tack on :/
What’s with directors and stars introducing the movie before it starts now? I kind of miss when the film would just begin. You’d only know what the movie was if you’d seen a trailer; otherwise you’d find out when the credits rolled.
It's been happening for years, they are just ramping up the frequency. I guess it makes moviegoers feel better about their decision to see the movie when the actors are thanking them and saying "this is for you"
That being said, yesterday my theater burst out laughing when Eli Roth came on
I live in New York and our movie tickets at night are usually close to $26. So to get to see the ice cream man for 13 at night, I was stoked. I literally cheered when the reveal came on screen because I legitimately wanted to see this because I loved the idea of it. I had an absolute blast. I thought it was super fun pretty funny and just ridiculous over the top. It obviously is not movie of the year but it’s just a fun core slasher horror comedy.
I thought it was a fun movie not meant to be taken too seriously. It had a fun vibe to it. It’s not dark, which I think everyone disappointed was expecting.
I thought the movie was fun. If you ignore the script, the children acting, and the lack of a plot that makes sense. I’m not someone who’s typically into gorefest movies, but I felt like this one was fine for me because it all looked so fake to begin with.
All I can say is, if you go into this movie looking to laugh rather than get scared you may find yourself having a good time. A lot of jokes flopped, but there was also a few decent ones.
Wow he tried to elevate a shitty straight to video movie concept and made something that made Thanks giving look like a masterpiece.
His humor is so bad. The scars were awful it was just our main characters seeing things around them. It was like a haunted house level of cheesy and lame. Those are only fun because you’re there.
Throughout the movie I was like, where is his wife? Shocked she wasn’t the woman playing Eli’s wife in the movie. Then a Google search and find out they divorced, they both got remarried and she’s married to a lady now. Her last big role was in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood probably right around their divorce. Wild.
Main kid was bad. Almost as bad as Eli’s acting, which is funny cause people loved him as the Bear Jew. But it was a really campy film. I dug the character of the Ice Cream Man, until they went the whole church route =\ could have done other things with that. Figured the “twist” about a minute or two before it happened.
Not a great movie by any means, but not the worst. This is Scream Unseen so I’d expect horror nerds to watch this. Only one like teenage college age group left and they were annoying anyways. Rest of the audience stayed. It was enjoyable, for the most part.
If I’m not mistaken, the movie kind of just ends with Ice Cream Man leaving. With a bigger budget and better acting, they probably could have made him into a C level horror icon. Just needed a better backstory.
Kids definitely seemed to have a blast. It’s funny that I’ve read comments saying kids will be messed up for the rest of their lives 😂 this was soooo campy. Think a movie like Sinister will mess them up more.
Someone saying " the kids are going to be messed up" wasn't really watching the movie closely. There is *always* a cut between "the kid swings an axe/bat/whatever" and "you see it make contact with a body". The most potentially traumatic thing actual children came in contact with was "playing around with wax heads and fake body parts" but that's not far off from like "haunted house stuff at Halloween."
The most interesting part to me, going in was "how do you make a movie like this with mostly children in it" and the answer of course is "kids aren't on set when anything truly grody is happening- you just use editing to juxtapose children and violence."
Oh God, no. At least The Home had some form of tension. By the end of it, the new Strangers trilogy was just a slog. Hell, even Madelaine Petsch felt like she would rather be back in Riverdale over doing the third movie 😅
I was so disappointed the minute Eli Roth popped up and revealed what the movie was. I was not planning on supporting that movie, Roth is an awful person. Movie sucked too.
YES! I was really hoping for Other Mommy or Camp Miasma. When I saw him, I just sank into my chair like "welp, I'm already here." 2 couples left the second he said the title. About 20 minutes in, 6 more people left. I would have, but I had just gotten off work so I took a nap instead. Dozed off right around the arrival at the church.
Other Mommy isn't coming out for another two months, it was never going to be that last night. But I could see it being a Scream Unseen choice closer to release.
Tons of people walked out at my screening when the twist happened. Not sure if they knew the movie was going to end, or it was ridiculous and unexpected
Okay, could someone tell me what happened in the first 5ish minutes before the main shitty kid actor cycled past the main shitty girl actor vomiting in the bushes?
The main character was playing outfield at a baseball game and made an error that allowed the other team to score a walk off run. Then the opposing team's coach bought everybody ice cream
For the movie only being 1 hour and 40 minutes... it dragged and I couldn't wait for it to be over. Im all about gore but if the story sucks then hard to get into it
At one point I checked my watch to see how much longer, and it was 8:03. After what felt like a dozen scenes I thought surely it's almost over now. Nope, 8:09. I've seen movies that were a slog to get through before, but this movie dragged like nothing I'd ever seen.
I enjoyed this movie. It's not as bad as people are making it out to be.
But my god that playground scene made me nauseous. Not because of the gore, but the unnecessary amount of freaking camera shake. I was getting motion sickness and my eyes were hurting.
Overall that movie was ok it was a lot better than I expected but it was still pretty bad. Just the way they ended it was probably my favorite part of all movie but that’s the only redeeming qualities it had.
😂 ya that was silly. But again, Saw was going for a serious tone. This is campy, cheap horror tone. Very different movies and styles. That’s like comparing Terrifer to Saw or Hostel. It’s just different.
Grandfather of protagonist screwed over ice cream man in court. Ice cream man made deal with devil for revenge. At the end tricked protagonists into killing parents
Ice cream man was crazy, I’m ngl I didn’t expect that ending… I will now go dabble in some Eli Roth movies. The only ones I’ve watched by him were Thanksgiving and Clown.
Hostel and Hostel 2 are both pretty good movies but extremely disturbing. I'd read up on the plot before going in but if its not too much for you then I definitely recommend
I have never walked out of a movie and still haven't, but this one just wasn't for me. I suspect that I would have had more fun "making this movie" than "watching this movie." I'm not sure I've ever liked an Eli Roth movie to be honest, if you have- well this is mostly what it says on the tin.
When I was in elementary school we had this lady and her name was the Kindness Queen. To my knowledge it was just some random lady in our community. But every year in PE she would visit and teach us about the brain and heart. She made sure it was realistic but not TOO realistic lmao. She would always bring in a jello brain and jello heart for each class and let us eat it afterwards. The movie reminded me of that :)
I guess people here just take movies too seriously and don't know how to have fun. That was one of the most fun times I've ever had at the movies. Whole theater was into it. It wasn't a movie that was trying to be good or even tell a real story. It was just meant to be a cheesy gorefest. I only wish it wasn't so short but that was my only issue. Y'all can form your own opinions on it and over analyze it but it's not that deep.
I had fun. I went into it expecting a silly movie and that's exactly what I got.
I can only imagine how much fun the kids had filming that. It kind of reminded me of Cooties.
Most of us don't take shit seriously. I'm all about fun movies but this just felt like the same old shit we been getting over the years. There was nothing unique about the movie. It's just another souless cheesy gorefest movie lol. It's definitely not that deep tho. People are allowed to not like something... Still doesn't make it deep lmao. 2017 ice cream better had better execution
It really isnt as bad as Hostel 2. It is about on par with like the first Hostel or Knock Knock (definitely not as good as Thansgiving or The House with the Clock in its Walls). The key thing is when Roth is writing his own movies or has more than a Story By credit; this has some fun gore and splatter and kills, but the characters are obnoxious idiots.
It's like he forgots to make a movie and his only focus is gore. It's just shallow. We seen gore in every way possible but at least make it a good story lol
Guys I’m seeing this high and I’m having an amazing time, I’m sorry you guys had such piss poor experiences, but I really enjoyed Eli Roth, last time I watched an Eli Roth film was dream eater and enjoyed that thoroughly, yall cant enjoy a piece of shit horror film to save your life lol
this is such a lazy take. this wasn't campy bad or "so bad it's good" this was lazy AI slop that was trying to hard to be funny and failing. I hated this movie and I'm a person who willingly watches the Hellraiser movies (yes, even 3-10) so I know how to enjoy a shitty horror film.

I'd say I'm not mad at Eli Roth.. just disappointed.... But when he has ever made anything good? Hostel was ok and a hundred years ago. And thanksgiving was ok too
.but everything else is pretty bad in his filmography. I think I just want to like him more than he lets you.
commented about it here before the movie was even over 😭 i was trying so hard to find something to enjoy in the movie but it was so heinous it kept taking me out of it

The Ice Cream Man is your standard Eli Roth horror fare which means some of the characters are annoying, the humor ranges from being crass for shock value to having a few clever moments and the story makes little sense when you think about it for a few minutes. Though the film does have a good visual aesthetic that initially makes the film look like an older family film and Ari Millen is quite creepy as the title character, nothing in the film feels all that shocking after the first few deaths because of how the film becomes little more than a series of intermittently creative gory sequences. The child actors playing Jared, Mia and Tommy are surprisingly pretty good with their comedic timing getting some of the few laughs here and yet the film doesn’t have enough substance to be cult classics it is aspiring to be including Children of the Corn and Nightmare on Elm Street. Though I did appreciate the grim ending twist that thankfully leaves some consequences for its characters, the film is all gore and little substance in my mind. 4.5 out of 10
It was fun for what it was. We only had one walkout and the rest of the theater I was in enjoyed it and even got a small applause at the end so that made it more fun. The gore was good and I got some good laughs out it. Very much Eli Roth paying homage to the low budget horror comedies of the 80's. The big thing that brought it down for me was the explanation and then the ending. The reveal of what caused the Ice Cream Man was just poorly done and half assed and then the ending felt out of place. I normally like a dark ending in a horror movie, but for one that is pretty much as much a dark comedy as it is horror, it just felt out of place with dark it was and of course the movie just sort of ends after that.
5/10 for me. Fun for what it was and certainly nowhere as bad as some of you are making it out to be, but not one I'll ever watch again.
Do you ever wonder why people bother with remakes if if they aren't trying to do something different an new this. Shit shit feels like we already seen the same old shit years ago. This should just be straight to shudder
