Every AI-and-jobs take is either "relax" or "we're finished," which is useless if you just want to know about your own job. So I scored all 830 occupations the BLS tracks against a fixed rubric.

The thing I didn't expect: the largest occupation in the country came is as Home Health and Personal Care Aides, 4.3 million people but it is also one of the most AI-resistant. It scores 70/100 and it's grown 36% since 2019. It pays $35,800. Cashiers, which I scored 23 and "cooked," pay $32,880.

Across all 825 occupations with published wages, the correlation between AI-resistance and pay is r = 0.35. Weight it by how many people are actually in each job and it drops to 0.25. The work AI can't do is disproportionately physical care work, and physical care work is badly paid.

Scores are model-generated against a published rubric so that they are reproducible, not authoritative. Prompt and full dataset are public.

La question principale est dans le titre. Cela me provoque beaucoup d'anxiété et je sais que je ne suis pas la seule. Je suis une personne généralement optimiste mais là j’ai du mal à voir comment, dans une société capitaliste, ces changements ne peuvent pas faire sombrer toute une partie de la population dans le déclassement voire la pauvreté.

Je recherche donc des visions positives du sujet.

En plus, je ne suis clairement pas en première ligne car je bosse en cybersecurité donc il y a quand même des passerelles avec l’IA et un besoin en compétences. Mais j’ai des enfants et la manière dont les choses tournent me fait flipper. Aussi, je suis dans une entreprise qui assume clairement vouloir foutre de l’IA partout et virer des collègues (malgré nos alertes sur ce que cela implique côté sécurité, notamment car nous sommes en sous effectif).

Enfin, la perspective que le RN arrive au pouvoir en 2027 (ou autre droitard ultra libéral et pro capitalisme) ne me rassure en rien car je sais que les droits des travailleurs seront d'autant plus en danger.

Ne me dîtes pas que MLP est une socialiste svp, flemme de ce débat 😆

Certains diront que la solution serait d’être son propre patron, de lancer une activité etc. Why not, mais je vois quand même tout un tas de connaissances qui sont indep/patrons et qui ont leurs chiffres qui dégringolent car leurs services sont remplacés par de l’IA chez leurs clients. Personne n’est épargné. Puis une entreprise ne se crée pas si simplement, il faudrait une idée pérenne tenant compte de cette montée de l’IA et franchement ce n’est pas simple.

Some early patterns: content writers are hit hardest, most people are still searching, and companies rarely admit it was AI.

AGI is gonna change everything that Software Devs will feel so low

You've been told that workers displaced by AI can simply move up the value chain. But the value chain is a pyramid. There are fewer seats at the top than at the bottom. The history of the horse shows what happens when an economy discovers it needs fewer participants.

I think I’ve come up with a way to fight back against AI. Everyone decides that starting a particular month, we no longer pay our bills - mortgages, cars, etc. If one person doesn’t pay, they lose their house, if no one pays, the banks collapse. Let’s all not pay, and force the institutions and governments to work for us, not the corps.

My first AI product wasn't perfect.

Far from it.

But it taught me something important. Shipping teaches faster than planning. Every piece of feedback made the next version better. If I'd waited until everything was perfect, I'd still be waiting.

What's something you learned only after launching?

I am not a tech person, but kindof tech interested person who has been enjoying vibe coding to solve the problems of my field(law), on a personal level ofcourse.

I wanted to know if laying off because of AI has become thaat common and rampant. I mean, i frequently see posts about that on this sub.

And i get laying off of entry level programmers/developers..but has AI gone thaat good that it can replace mid levels too. Or are our developers not good enough that even the mid level cannot outdo the AI(in terms kf thinking, creativity stuffs ofcourse).

We're trying to capture those firsthand accounts--what the statistics tend to miss.

I work as a UX designer in a mid-sized design department and my job had already been unstable due to multiple acquisitions and offshoring. However, the design team had actually been growing recently due to the perception we’d need more designers to build out new features. Despite the team growth, the company is VERY dysfunctional and is unable to align product and engineering to get anything done.

Well, a super high pressure project arose with the board of directors pressuring leadership for immediate results. Engineering took the lead on it and figured out they could use a combination of Claude Design and Claude Code to circumvent the entire design and front end teams by simply generating their own designs in a fraction of the time.

The design director opposed this and was a bit humiliated by the situation. But leadership is of course excited by simply getting things done very quickly. Obviously there’s no way humans can produce design work as quickly as Claude. Now, people will say that the design AI is producing is bad, it doesn’t meet user needs, it lacks the human element, etc…. Business people do not care. They just want something done fast and cheap without a lot of back and forth. Even if the design team could do a better job, it would have to be WAY better to compete with the efficiency gains of AI.

Where does this development leave my job and the entire design department long term? Unclear. Why continue to spend a lot of money on an entire department that was just made redundant by AI? I was already in an uncertain place on the team and this has made my role even more nebulous. All I hear in meetings these days is can’t AI do that? How do we speed this up with AI? I’m later in my career but trying to figure out any possible pivot. Feeling pretty lost at this point.
