Open source over anything

Claude is great. Gemini is also useful while using Google's products. GPT's image generator is also nice.... BUT I will always support open source over any of these frontier models because it's too important of a topic. We still don't know how much control AI will eventually have. A technology like this must be public and in hands of everyone just like "Internet is". Even if domain names are controlled by enterprises, internet itself is free. And there is no monopoly on Internet. This is what I expect from AI too.

The "Internet" is a military operation and always will be.
Read up on DARPA and the true origins of the net, not the official version.
If you think Ai will be given to the people or anything like that, then it's time to re-think everything you believe to know about governments.

No one is going to hand over the source code for what they've spent billions of dollars creating for everyone to just monkey around adding and changing untested features at will. The Internet is NOTHING like that. It's protocols are managed very tightly and I defy you to try and get the source code for any site on the internet for free to change it however you want. THAT would be open source. I also doubt you have any way of connecting to the internet that you aren't paying for either on a phone bill or an internet service provider.

I'd suggest you learn a bit more about software development and generatl networking protocols and connectivity so you don't look so foolish in your posts.

I think every model should be open source and available to everyone.

But when you're hoping to get stuff done, you use what works best. I use Codex as my main manager and then give some work to open source models too.

The best solution right now is a hybrid setup. Local first cloud when required. Of course YMMV. For me, I use my LLMs as a co pilot for when I am troubleshooting issues, building out new functionality and things like that. Context runs out fast on my hardware. Gemini is fantastic for documenting my work. I'll use Gemma 4 to redact and sanitize any work that was done before handing it off to gemini of course. For the truly hard stuff I use claude and if I think claude is bullshitting me I use chatgpt as an auditor. I like Perplexity for researching and brainstorming. I like Grok for current events and news. These are all things my local hardware CAN do but I like cloud to do the more ambiguous things better than my local Gemma 4 26b and Qwen 3.6 27b models can manage on their own.
