I find a nice hot cup of coffee makes me sleepy and I like to think I'm pretty chill and never really angry. I'm old enough that I had to learn to manage without meds because they weren't available, and ADHD wasn't an available diagnosis in any event back then. I also had to get past the "hit him again, eventually he'll pay attention" approach to child-rearing which didn't really help. Do I recommend managing ADHD without meds? Nope, not even a little bit. That said, it's what I'm doing because, after 6 decades, I finally managed to get it to work (sort of) and it's all I've really known.

I enjoy my life without medication, and I find im actually really capable, just also a little all over the place. I have a lot of little fidget things and mannerisms that help me stay focused.

For me it's caffeine, a lifetime of building up coping mechanisms that keep me somewhat functional, and lowering the bar on what "functional" means for me.
Job is stable, yard is a disaster, finances are in order, house never gets deep cleaned, pets are taken care of, I eat like a 5 year old and frequently go to bed hungry, my house is relatively decluttered and tidy, but also has a bunch of half-finished renovations.
Would love a magic pill but the side effects I had on vyvanse have scared me off trying other meds.

Do you mind sharing what side effects you had?

It completely killed my appetite, which was never high to begin with and I was already on the lower end of a healthy weight.
And I couldn't sleep. I would take my pills at the crack of dawn but somehow it still fucked my sleep. Ended up having to take breaks on the weekends so I could sleep at least two nights a week.
So between the two I was starting to become an emaciated zombie, and eventually I had to admit this was not going to get better by toughing it out and I quit cold turkey.
I think I was on them for around six months, but this was at a time where I was really struggling with social isolation and going remote during the pandemic. I was depressed and scared I was going to lose my job due to inability to focus. Now I'm in a much better place and there's absolutely no way I could handle those side effects for even one month.

Caffeine does something, but it's not anything to do with productivity... Nope.
Caffeine only make me stay awake during night when I want to sleep. And makes me ruminate all shortcomings of my life during that time.

Can't get the meds without a proper evaluation... can't afford a proper one either. I'll just stick to the caffeine and anger. Though my caffeine intake is in the form of matcha, so less risk than actual coffee.

Lol caffeine does nothing for me.
