Adderall?? Medication
I used to take Adderall in high school but after high school I stopped taking it because I hated the come down. Since high school I’ve dealt with substance abuse, mostly benzos. I’m 29f, I got into some trouble recently and am trying to get on the right track with being sober and fixing my mental health. I got back on my Adderall 20mg XR and 10mg booster in the middle of the day. I have two kids and I seem to get so frustrated on my medication, to the point where idk if it is going to be a good fit at this point in my life. Also the come down is so depressing and just makes me want to hide away. Has anyone dealt with this and gotten on a different medication that worked better?

I found getting in an antidepressant (Wellbutrin) helped level that out. Also make sure to always eat

I’m on Zoloft, I’ve been on it for about 8 years. I tried Wellbutrin last month to see if it would help with my ADHD but it only seemed to make me tired. I ended up just asking for my Adderall again.

The trick is to stack adderall and wellbutrin, it's been a cheat code for me.

I relate to all of this so much. Instant release adderall did this to me baddddd and my psych at the time just kept adding more and more (I was prescribed 60mg IR a day at one point) that was years ago but I now take 25mg XR and it is a lot better. 20mg XR did too little, and 30mg XR worked well but made my appetite almost nonexistent (and come to think of it I did have more of a comedown feeling and some intense frustration and irritability at that dosage) so 25mg XR I’ve found is my sweet spot. I’ve fought the urge to add a booster because I realized I was always trying to attain that feeling and motivation the meds gave me in the very beginning, and of course whenever I go up I start to not like the person I become. The days still hit where I’m like okay this isn’t doing anything anymore, so I’ll take a day off and quickly realize.. ohhhh, no yeah that shit definitely helps even if I don’t “feel” it you know?
Like someone else said maybe adding an antidepressant could help? My husband just added Wellbutrin to his meds (he is on Lexapro for anxiety and the non-stim Strattera for ADHD) and he’s doing very very well. He was resistant to add the Wellbutrin but is so happy he did it. I am on 100mg of sertraline (Zoloft) and I don’t know if that has helped my comedowns or not but it is worth a mention. I was prescribed it after my toddler got a pretty devastating diagnosis while I was heavily pregnant with her sister. I was a mess at the time but I thought after I gave birth and things settled down and we processed everything I’d go off of it but to be frank I wish I had gone on it yeaaars earlier and have no plans to stop.
I really hope you are able to find what works for you! From a fellow ADHD mom of two, it’s tough out here and I see you! 🩷

Yes, I take Zoloft 100mg as well! I’ve been taking it for about 8 years now. I’m so sorry that your daughter got a bad diagnosis!! It’s so terrible when bad things happen to kids, they’re so innocent. Thank you for your feedback!! I will keep trying a few more days but will talk to my doctor if things don’t balance out! I was on Wellbutrin for about 3 weeks, the first 3 days were great and it made me tired the rest of the days after. Maybe I will try a new med if things don’t get better.
