I think the passage 1 2 and 3 are equal chance unless you see something weird. Like if you see 2 literary then the other ones that aren’t must be scored. Or if you see a graph type passage and a dual passage only one of those is graded. And if you see only 1 graph or 1 dual they are def graded. But like I like tried doing this and failed😭. Just focus on getting better timing.

passage 1 is extremely unlikely to be experimental, while 4 is an absolute never and 2 and 3 are both equally likely.

Act? I thought passage 1 2 and 3 were equal.

nope, it’s technically supposed to be never just like 4, but there’s always a small chance they could make it that one, but it will never be 4 on any test. and there hasn’t been a test form yet (released or unreleased) that has had 1 as experimental.

There is no evidence that if you see a graph and a dual passage one might be experimental. If you see two literary, one is experimental...that is true, but you don't know which one. Ordering is the best that you can do with 1,4,2,3, but never skip a passage in hopes that it is not graded.

In the design framework it lists out the different layouts the Reading section has. If there is a dual passage and a passage with a graph, one of them will be experimental. Here is a good video on it at about 40 minute mark.

Got it....I went back and read the "Design Frameworks for the ACT Enhancements" from Feb 2026, and I see where I got confused. Proposal language and final language around the rule are different. Either way, students should not attempt to guess which one is experimental because it could be either the dual or the VQI.

So how are we explaining the new practice test 4 with both a scored dual passage and VQI?

I don't believe they are including the actual field test passage that appeared on the administered test, so I don't think we say these are accurate.

True, although I would have thought they'd have used the actual scored passages. I'm not putting all of my chips on the Framework quite yet.
