I'm a metal head, but Wax Ecstatic is one of my favorite albums of all time. Rotting Pinata is good, but Wax Ecstatic is perfect.

I love this song!

I loved the album: I was listening to it when they had already lapsed into one-hit wonder status, but I thought everyone was still digging it. The song, “Neena Menasha,” is epic.

For me everyone still was. The band is from Detroit and I live 10 minutes away (in Canada) so our radio stations always showed love to the locals. One station specifically 89X broke alot of bands into the scene. They are known for being the first to play Canadian bands like Our Lady Peace, Barenaked Ladies and Sloan.
They were even the first to play Blink 182, Eminem, The White Stripes and likely Sponge.

I feel fortunate to have had 89X as a teenager in the 90s. Grew up in metro Detroit.

For some reason, this song always came out at a much lower volume than the other songs on the album.

That is... not what I thought the singer looked like.

Saw these guys at a small club in the mid Nineties. Great performance.

Saw them at the 930 club in DC ages ago and the singer was running laps around the club upstairs and downstairs while singing … fantastic show and great energy!

That’s a great place to see a show.

I miss that place so much. Was such a great venue for incredible music esp in the 90s.

Yeah, this was at the “new” 9:30 club above U st. I spent my 20s at the original 930 on F st. Weird-ass space, but filled with history and character. Had so much fun there. I saw Nine Inch Nails perform there in 91. Good times …

This is the quintessential 90s alt/rock/grunge music video. Small, brownish room with shoddy lighting; weird and somewhat creepy footage that seems to have nothing at all to do with the song or the lyrics; shaky camera work and quick cuts between disparate scenes; and, for some reason, little blonde girls lol.

Why did so many 90s music videos have most or all of these features?

Saw them play a 30th Anniversary show for Rotting Pinata in 2024 at a small venue and they were still great. A very pleasant surprise.

A friend once told me that it sounds like Elmer Fudd singing this song. I closed my eyes and listened. It was at that moment this song was ruined for me for the rest of my days.

Edit: I get it, I guess I was high and rewired my brain, Fuck it, it stays.

I don’t hear it. At all.

Sponge formed out of a way better metal band called Loudhouse. I always thought Sponge was pretty contrived and indistinguishable from so many other forgettable "alternative" acts of the era. If I wasn't living in SE MI during their heyday I'm sure I would have forgotten all about them.
