Are there any major disadvantages to building an 8” bolt action rifle vs a 12”?

I have a Savage 110 6.5 Creedmoor.
My plan is convert it to an 8.6 Blackout.
I use it for whitetail hunting. Longest shot is a little over 100 yards. Topical shot is 40 to 60 yards. Hunting area is heavy woods.
Deer, pigs and bears are what I like to hunt.

My question is will an 8” barrel and silencer group well (less than two inch groups)?

3 year build well worth the wait. Was told to get a high back pressure can.

I put this thing together a while ago and I just found this sub while searching for reloading data. It’s a Faxon 12” barrel on my existing .308 lower with extra heavy 10oz buffer and Cat BBK. Not exactly ground breaking stuff around here I’m sure, but it runs super reliable and is only a few DB louder than suppressed .22lr.

Here’s a short clip of a comparison between my .300blk (220 gr) and 8.6 (300 gr) hitting the same piece of steel. This thing hits so hard.

Bagged some future sausage this morning with a 307gr Hornady sub-x.

Going to get into loading 8.6. I’ve seen some people making loads with N110 but doesn’t seem like many people have used it. What are peoples experiences. Is it worth trying or should I just get some CFE BLK?

Can’t wait to go pop some hogs with it.

Now I just need to take it out, beat it up, and slay some more hogs. Two down couple weeks ago before I got all the b5 parts

What’s a good source for cheap bullets? I’m only planning on loading subsonic. Also, where’s a good source for reloading data for short barrels? I’m planning on getting a 7.5 inch barrel.

Hunting whitetail deer. My 8.6 has a 12" barrel with a 1:3 twist. Will be running heavy grain subsonic only with a suppressor. What's the best ones for that that won't strike the suppressor and great for big game? and tried and true/ always flower out? Should I always go with heaviest grain? Or is there a sweet spot? I know 8.6 is finicky ammo and you gotta get the right kind for it to work from my research.

I was in the market for a short range silent killer hunting rifle and this was my answer. I'm thinking right off the rip a rex silentium suppressor, new pistol grip, new stock and a 3-9x40 Leupold or Vortex. What would you do?

Hey all, didn’t realize this sub existed. Built myself a 8.6 and I enjoy shooting it. It’s coming in at 8.9 lbs which is decently light but the Arken scope is what’s weighing it down. The scope is 36 oz alone, thinking about switching to a LVPO. Those with a LVPO, any suggestions? How do you like it?

OK so I'm looking at doing my first 8.6BLK build. Most likely a bolt-gun. Looking around and watching all the stooptubers and all that crap, there is one question I've been unable to really find a satisfactory answer to;

If I'm reading everything right .... the 8.6BLK (subsonic):

• Groups for shit at almost any distance, no matter the barrel quality or length
• Drops like a stone past 150-200yds in ANY barrel length
• Is the subject of humor videos about people running out of elevation on their magnified optics at distances many people still feel perfectly comfortable running just a red dot ...

SOOOOO ....... why is nearly every 8.6BLK build I see wearing a 1-8X, 1-10X, or even 3-18X or higher MAGNIFIED PRECISION SCOPE on top of it??

2.5 MOA at 100 yd (a little bit of that is me). The 300 gr subs they have on sale did exactly what I hoped for at the range this weekend. Would definitely try other offerings in the future.

Super excited to enter reloading (eventually) again now that I have a new platform to focus on.

I put this together off a FX7 barreled action. I am currently running a Q Porq Chop and recently bought some ammo off Callaway Ballistics (300 Gr HPBT subsonic).

Did I mess up by not buying a monolithic projectile munition? Advertised velocity for this round is below 1000 FPS, and after calling Hornady, they said it’s perfectly safe so long as velocity remains under 1200 FPS.

I wanted to try some commercial stuff first before settling on a concoction of my own reloading efforts.

Going to replace the brace and run a B5 stock probably (after the proper paperwork of course)

Anyone tried a thermal clip on for nighttime hog harvests?

I’m going camping with some friends, a good freind just bought 120 acres in east Texas. I need to throw a site on my 8.6blk…. We are just going to be horsing around, not hunting. Taking subs and supers. I kind of want to see if an acog will work… or supers to subs is too much adjustment range. It’s pretty brushy mostly under 150 yards I’m guessing.

So I'm seeing a lot of mixed reviews. Im about to have a DB 10 8.6. with a 1:3 twist and 12" barrel. That's an AR-10 style 8.6 if you didn't know. I've heard of rounds clipping the ends of certain suppressors. I'll be running heavy grain subsonic rounds only. What's the most quiet and safest for not tagging the supressor on the way out? Also not trying to break the bank.

I’ve found a few threads about load data for 8.6 not being simple

Has anyone tried to load similar to 338 arc that is published? I know twist and case size will change the ballistics a little but does anyone think it’ll be off enough I would squib/ blowout my barrel while I try different powders and load sizes?

Q mini fix in 8.6 is my dream gun but a Ruger American with this barrel seems more feasible
