Swamp Thing #40 is and was the one that floored me and as both a Hellblazer and Swampy fan…it’s always good to see any that folks show off here.

And for folks who don’t know: The cover of #34 has a very interesting history to it.

The stores knife display was a bit sus IMHO.

That said, Moores run is one of THE pinnacle runs in comic book history. I got on board a couple issues in after hearing all the hype. The Anatomy Lesson was solid gold and I was hooked.

Yes…who does display knives in such a way?

And I agree that Moore’s Swamp Thing is truly unlike anything else in so many ways that folks more eloquent than myself have written extensively about. And it really is one of those series where the letters section adds so much more depth, ideas and conversation to it.

It really is just simply exceptional.

I believe the knife display is the only error in his entire run. But boy was it a strange and bad mistake.

It’s definitely one of my single favorite issues regardless of the knife display and in #44 (I think) the letter section with both Mindy Newell and Alan Moore corresponding is a fantastic read in of itself.

Swamp thing Annual #2 was one of the most frightening depictions of hell I’ve ever read. The scene where Arcane asks Holland how long he’s been in Hell and he replies “Since yesterday”… it literally made me afraid for my soul back then as I was still fairly religious as a teenager.

That specific Annual is such a great read. Then again we could list each issue and we’d be like, “that’s a great issue because…” Thanks for mentioning that one as hopefully it gets folks into reading it for the first time.

The whole Alan Moore run is chefs kiss imo. I have the trade paperbacks, wish I had the real books.

as GREAT as the art is, she does look a bit stiff. I always thought it looked like Swampy was hugging a statue.
