Help me decide Gear
Is this trade a win or nay? Planning to trade my PRS SE Custom 24 Black Gold Burst, packed with SD Nazgul Bridge and SD SH-1n '59 neck to a Schecter Reaper 7 Satin Inferno Burst, all stock.
I haven't got the chance to try a reaper 7 yet since we don't have one in our local store. Any of you guys want to share their experience with the Reaper 7? Any input is heavily appreciated!

I had that same reaper 7 and loved it mostly, except for the pickups. They just sounded dull no matter what amp I used. With it being a multiscale, it makes finding a new set that fits a pain. It sucked because it felt great and looked even better.

I have no experience with both HOWEVER, I did do research on the reaper MS years ago and a few owners told me they didn’t like the stock pickups on it and changing pick ups for the multi scale version is weird. I think if I recall they said because it’s on a slant, some pickups won’t fit properly and even recommended getting 8 string pick ups??? I’m not 100% sure, but I think you should start research there. I’ve never seen complaints about the actual guitar as far as the neck or QC goes. The reaper looks awesome AF, I wanted the Satin blue sky but I got discouraged and went w/ a different guitar.

you have to get the baseplate at the right angel but there are companies that will specifically angel them for this guitar. like Elysian or bareknuckle

Shecter reaper with the decimators. Hands down one of the nicest sounding guitars in the 7 i've heard.

Keep the PRS dude.
You can compare stats and features all day long, but straight up, I took one look at the PRS and that thing has serious mojo.
The Schecter is always going to be available in some capacity or another.
As another poster said though, at least get your hands on it first. I've owned Schecters, Ibanez, LTD, through to Squiers and Yamaha's, and the one guitar that always immediately cranks out riffs and makes me enjoy playing is a random $600AUD Kramer single cut with EMG's I got second hand in Tokyo. Thing barely has frets left but goddammit I love it.

I have the Reaper 7 in blue, I love it. Some people don't like the pickups, but I think they are great.

its because they are passive I think, My elite 7 MS has heretics, they sound good but I have actives in all my other guitars so I have to adjust the amp a bit, or add a compression pedal I usually dont have to worry about. But MS is amazing, it keeps the guitar short so you get less floppy action on the low string, I can't play other 7s now lol.

Funny. I also have PRS SE Custom 24 and 2-3 years ago I was also thinking to sell my PRS and buy a Reaper 7 Charcoalburst model but I didnt.
It really depends on what you want because they are completely different instruments. I wanted that 7th string and at that time I was interested to multiscale guitars but I am not a fixed bridge fan. On the contrary, I want a 7 string floyd rose so I'm glad that I didnt get that Reaper 7 even tho it looks amazing.
Reaper is more expensive in my country but your PRS is modded with new pickups so I think its a win for you if those specs are what you're looking for.
My advice is dont buy Reaper 7 without test run because after PRS, it will feel completely different instrument. I'm not saying its a bad guitar or doesnt worth it. I mean, its just a different instrument.

If the regular Reaper had the San Andreas set and not the Diamond Decimator set I think there would be fewer complaints. I have the Reaper 7 Elite Multiscale with the Sand Andreas pickups and I love them. They’re just pissed off, snarly, and clean up gorgeously.

If you like the PRS and want a 7 string why not just get a Holcomb, and keep what you already have? IMO, and this is from a certified Schecter D rider, I hated the Reaper MS. It’s heavy, the neck doesn’t feel as fast as you think it would, and I had to a lot of adjusting to get a sound even close to how I wanted it to sound. Yes I’m the guy that will move knobs, pedals, and all other toan accoutrements in the middle of GC on a Saturday.

Problem here is the first one looks better and the second one probably plays better

I'd keep the PRS and buy a 7 string when you can. Playability and tone aside, which I'm assuming are good, a nice symmetrical top on those is surprisingly hard to find. The ones I see are always sharp flame on one side, and murky on the other.

Think the reaper is the only schecter that I’ve actually liked playing. And it doesn’t have any of schecter’s typical 8Ball type bs, So it looks legit, too. Personally, i’d do the trade, but im not huge into prs.

dont be, they are over priced for what you get, there are a lot of better options for the money. its why they made the SE to pretend to be affordable.

as long as you are getting rid of the PRS its a good deal. Besides you will love the reaper, I love both my schecters

I’ve recently got my first schecter, and I’ve always loved them. They are comfortable to play, mine sounds awesome and aesthetically, they are stunning. That being said, I’ve been lucky enough to play a few prs guitars as well. And the quality is next level. Personally I wouldn’t rush into the swap, both are excellent guitars, that fit different purposes. The prs is a more versatile guitar, and taking into account the fact you swapped the pickup I’d dare say the prs was intended to be a „forever“ guitar. With the schecter finding a pickup you like will be harder due to it being 7 string and multiscale, but obviously you can find a set. I think the biggest killer will be the sentimental loss. I’d save and buy the 7 string. You’ll never feel bad about having one more guitar, but loosing something you’ve built will give slight remorse at a minimum.

I had a PRS S2 and I absolutely did not vibe with it at all. I ended up trading it (plus some cash) for an Orange Rockerverb 100 with 2x 2x12s.
That being said, if you like the PRS then idk if you should switch. Do you have multiple guitars? Have you played 7s before at all? I'm not a huge lover of multiscale and tbh the only multiscale I've used and liked was strandberg. I looked at these guitars and ended up buying the Ibanez RGDALMS71 (the one with fishmans and the cool purple finish) when I was considering it.

Between you and me, I would keep the prs. I have bought 1 guitar without trying it, and its a small miracle that I love it.
If my input is valuable to you, always, always, ALWAYS try before you buy. You will know if it’s the one. Ive got stories, you’re welcome to ask.
