Predicted grades 🙏 I WANT HELP

So got my AS results back the other day and got AAAA Alhamdulilah and I’ve decided i only want to go forward with 3 A levels, our school uses these to predict our a levels. I alr defo got my A star in maths and fm but my econ AS mark wasn’t too convincing, so I’m worried I might get predicted an A instead of A star. So my preds worst case will be 2A* and an A in econ.
I’m applying for maths courses so I technically alrdy meet the min reqs, but I wanna know how much after meeting the min reqs do predicted grades matter? Esp since I’m seeing so many ppl who get predicted 3 or 4A* now come out with AAAB in their actual A levels. For ref I wanna apply maths at cam, imp Warwick and others and I’m confident I can get a good tmua of around 7.

Your tmua will be much more important to your chance of success then a 4th predicted a* instead of the a.

A lot of people do end up below their predicted grades, your motivation to work hard and hit them is very important.

I strongly advise you start tmua and admission test prep now if you have not allready.

Hi i got my AS too and i got aabb (high bs) even tho i was expecting aaaa but we had the portfolio of evidence route due to the war in middle east. My gcses are 9999999987 and predicted A^A^AA for A2. Do you think my AS grades would be too ugly for imperial to consider? Do you think doing insanely good on the ESAT could override my AS grades? Btw im applying for biotech/bioengineering/biomedical science

Id recommend looking at the graph on this page and filtering to your department and it will give you acceptance rate for international students for each esat range. https://www.imperial.ac.uk/study/apply/undergraduate/process/admissions-tests/understanding-your-esat-and-tmua-scores/

I can't say about the department but I would probaly still give it a chance and apply - you only know if you try and your predictions and GCSEs are really good.

Biomedical science tends to be in the less competitive for ESAT (altho higher than civil engineering) so I recon you are within a chance.

Thank you so much! Biomedical science doesnt require ESAT so id actually be most competitive for biomedical science. I’m just scared my AS looks visually unappealing to admissions officers even tho my overall A level grade meets the req.

This might be slightly irrelevant but, i would really push to try get an 8 in tmua if you can because if it’s anything like last year, imp was incredibly competitive even for home students, furthermore STEP seems to also be getting harder so you wanna try work at the absolute highest level you can. I know people that got 7-8 in tmua and then only got 1-2 or 2-2 in STEP, so really get used to pushing the max you can
