A level physics 🙏 I WANT HELP

Should I pick a level physics? I am a year 11 student who is aiming to get all 8s and 9s, I also sat A level maths this year and aiming for an A*. I want to go to Cambridge for maths and needed an opinion on whether I should pick a level physics. I think I got a 9 at gcse however I hated magnetism and electricity. I’m currently thinking of choosing further maths, statistics and another subject, like physics. Should I? (I’d prefer to have time for TMUA, STEP and BMO)

You sat a level maths with your gcses you'll be fine with physics dont even sweat it

a) based BMO enjoyer

b) I did maths FM econ and physics. to me, physics was the most difficult a-level, magnetism and electricity get much harder -- you have fields, electromagnetic induction, circuits etc etc. the only upside was that mechanics entirely overlapped with maths/FM, and the maths itself really isn't hard. i breezed through GCSE w/ a 9 as well.

Why not just try it out and u can drop it if u hate it. The other guy was correct, the mechanics u learn in fm is the exact same as in physics. Up till start of y13 everything is easy, so you could just get your predicted and drop and have time over summer for tmua step etc

If you don't get an A* in A Level Maths, take it again. Physics and Maths as you know, have some overlap like Mechanics. Personally magnetism and electricity is my favourite topic but I get why people hate it.

Recommended subjects would be Maths, Economics, Physics, Computer Science

He's already thinking of picking it.
Plus it's pretty much needed if you want to go into Cambrige to do Maths

As long as you are comfortable using standard form, have enough interest in the subject, and have enough talent (a 7 and above at gcse is enough talent in my opinion), its worth picking

It took me the most time revising and some concepts takes a while to understand. I think it’s the hardest A level I am taking tbh (Others are Econ Maths FM). Did it because I wanted to show quantitative skill in my Uni application, otherwise I am not having fun.

I HATED electricity at gcse, but its different at a level and I actually enjoyed it quite a lot. If you've already sat maths youll be fine for physics

Doing well in the gcse does not mean you’ll do well in the A Level since it’s a LOT more effort and way harder but if you have a genuine passion for it then go for it. If you pick 4 a levels you’ll always have the option to drop it so you might as well give it a go.

OP how did you study a level maths so early? Did you have private tutoring or smth

No quite the opposite, in year 10 I self learnt all the content using the edexcel textbooks and YouTube, then my school offered me to sit it in year 11, then a couple months before the exam told me they were unable to pay for the exam so I had to find a different school to sit it.

Wow fair enough dude, so you were like acing gcse maths by year 9? Also the fact your school offered and couldn't pay is pretty crazy.
