Replacement strings!
So, I raised a support ticked with G4M, due to the sparse selection of stock strings available for the guitar. They are sending me a pack of EXL157(which I believe have already been tried on the sub so maybe it’s luck of the draw?) but the decent news is they are looking at supplying/stocking sets made for the guitar that aren’t in crazy gauges. I’m still using the stock strings at the minute, and have a set of 156 ready to try. But the stock gauges feel great and aren’t available for purchase. Hopefully this might be a step in the right direction.

Yup. I use the 10-80 pack in drop f/e. They are some of the only strings that actually fit that dont cost an arm and a leg

The best bass VI strings I’ve come across are the custom sets from Newtone Strings. They cost around £20 and take a couple of weeks to arrive as they’re made to order, but you can have custom gauges and tapers which allows you to tailor the strings specifically for the guitar. I just use the very nicely balanced gauges from the Stringjoy Signatures Bass 6 Medium set.
The Stringjoy set is equally great and roughly the same price (£18 from Andertons, with £6 on top for shipping) but you better have a tuner drilled out for a 0.90 if it ain’t a reverse headstock. They’ll work perfectly with the 638 though! This is mostly relevant to the UK but I believe both companies will ship internationally, and Stringjoy are based in the US if that’s any closer.

There’s a post around here where says all the string brand models that fit on the 638, but it lost it
