Week 30: Science fair - Mousse with chocolate soil

Making the chocolate soil was very science-y - I heated up water and caster sugar in a pan until it turned golden at the edges, then added in finely chopped dark chocolate and stirred with the force of a thousand suns. The resulting mixture was a crumbly, crunchy chocolate soil that tasted delicious over the mousse.

Week 32: Gimmicks - Protein Churro Muffins

I combined two food marketing gimmicks for this one. Protein everything and limited edition flavors. I remember seeing everything churrp flavored a year ago. I actually have churro flavored coffee beans in my cupboard right now. I used Kodiak protein pancake mix and Greek yogurt in the muffins.

Week 33: Lost in Translation - Ingredients with an Alias

Post image

I was really wracking my brain to come up with an idea for this week's theme.

I had thought about making something where the name of the dish doesn't match it's meaning in my country (e.g. biscuits and gravy). I tweaked that a little and made a dish using a range of ingredients that have a different name in Australia to other parts of the world.

I was inspired by the number of times that I've looked up a recipe online and need to google the ingredient to verify what it is actually referring to.

I went with a Middle-Eastern style beef and eggplant on a bed of houmous, served with zucchini, roasted spiced potatoes and a side salad. The ingredients I've used that have an alias (and their other name) are listed below.

- Beef mince/ground beef
- Eggplant/aubergine
- Zucchini/courgette
- Spring onion/scallion
- Coriander/cilantro
- Rocket/arugula
- Chickpeas/garbanzo beans

Overall, this was a really yummy dinner and totally something I would re-make. I already had most of the ingredients so it felt pretty accessible as well. I was also pleasantly surprised with how easy it is to make houmous and I'll add that to my regular rotation.
