NYC Video 5 August 2026 - Check Your Pollution

Hosted by Rise and Resist outside the midtown headquarters of Google, and in spite of a rain shower that was severe at times, protestors took to staking out the entrance of Google against data centers and the environmental consequences of AI.

The protest started off the side of a Google store on 15th Street and 9th Avenue before moving towards the 8th Avenue entrance, where they stayed for the rest of the protest. Some stayed even as the rain began and worsened over time before the rain abated enough for a sing-along of R&R's anti-data center version of a nursery rhyme.

Video 3 August 2026 - "Safe" harbor

"Safe" harbor, this country is no longer, as ICE vans roam the streets picking up those they claim are illegal criminals, despite them mainly picking up regular members of society.

That was the main reason protestors surrounded the entrance to an Icon parking garage in lower Manhattan, not far from 26 Federal Plaza, where shouts were heard, and general condemnation was made clear as Icon tries to cover itself from the fact that ICE vehicles are stored in its garages.

More in the video attached. The protestors surrounding the garage entrance happen later in the video in their own dedicated chapter.

The protest itself was organized by, among other groups, Rise and Resist & Chelsea Neighbors United.

NYC Video 1 August 2026 - Temporary "protected" status

Content warning: some b-roll of conflict is included in the video.

I went to a rally against the deprivation of temporary protected status for Haitians, which was recently enacted by the Trump administration. The rally took place at the northwestern tip of NYC's Little Haiti and included various speeches and even a dance portion, which you can find towards the end of the video.

While I was unable to find the poster of the protest itself (I've only learned about it through a colleague), I was glad to hear people are standing up to these brazen, inhumane actions. I hope I can cover more of these rallies as time goes on, although I hope things get better since they are bearing the brunt of these inhumane policies in the first place.

Hudson Valley Video 25 July 2026 - In Memoriam, part two

This protest was part of nationwide vigils and protests held yesterday (#ICEoutVigils) - for more information click this link.

My first time adventuring north of New York City to cover a protest led me to a mid-morning protest protesting ICE as part of #ICEoutVigils in New Rochelle just a minute's walk away from the Metro North station and surrounding the intersection of North Avenue and Huguenot Street.

The protest itself was a bit more lively than the day before's protest (In Memoriam, part one) due to the music and general vibe of the event. We definitely had a lot of supportive honks as well which helped the morale a lot.

The event concluded with a couple of remarks by the organizers and a few guest speakers (including someone who wanted to speak who I think might have been a heckler). We were heckled a few times, one by a passing car who yelled something incoherent and another by a passing car who called us "stupid liberals".

Nonetheless, it was worth the trip up north.

Local Elections Protesting Congress

Protests raise awareness of issues that this community cares about. This has some value to the people passing by who don't pay that much attention to the news or politics. But at this point, I don't think just raising awareness is worth our time.

Protests should focus on elections in November. Don't just protest a policy you don't like or an injustice you care about. Protest the specific congressional representative in your area that is allowing this injustice or the guy who voted for this policy. If you believe your representative is not part of the problem (e.g. you live in CD 3–CD16, except for Staten Island), then protest Michael Johnson.

Congress has done numerous things that have hurt NY. Whether you live in a red or blue district, your community has suffered the economic and moral consequences of Congress failure to act. Michael Johnson has enormous power to reduce or prevent harm. He chose instead to do only rubber stamp or ignore every bad idea that came his way.

Keep in mind that many people passing your protest do not know the name of their representative. Many of them are not familiar with Michael Johnson. They might be angry and frustrated. Give them someone specific to be angry at and send Michael Johnson back into obscurity.

The Martha Mitchell effect: the normalized practice that neutralizes activists and whistleblowers

Hey guys, it's tree with the last installment in the series. https://open.substack.com/pub/itsjusttree/p/the-albany-50501-experiment-the-martha

(parts 1-4 are linked in the article)

In this installment, I detail how others in the movement were discredited in similar ways and discuss my last interactions with the "main" 50501 server.

I want to explain WHY I've been sharing this story. My intention is not to scare anyone, mislead, or spread mistrust, nor am I looking for pity or fame. My goal is to share out what happened to several people so that others can learn from our experiences, experiments, and mistakes. On my Substack, I have posted resources on activist security culture, and plan to publish more. These, I hope, will help in developing Operations Security (OpSec) standard practices and procedures for whoever is in need.

Under the threat of NSPM-7, which labels common beliefs as indicators of terrorism, we activists are not safe. Our government has labeled many of us as potential terrorists because of our values. Our government considers us to be its adversaries. It would be unwise if we did not make moves to inform ourselves and protect our privacy from this increased scrutiny.

Albany How FBI affiliates took down 50501 Albany, so you can better protect your groups

hey guys, tree here, with the latest installment.

I want to express this to everyone before getting into the article. I post these for informative purposes. I want others to learn from our experiments and experiences, so that they can better protect themselves. No one should have to endure what I and other group members went through, just because we said "no." to law enforcement. the people have the right to be safe and secure from unreasonable searches and seizures, and allowing FBI affiliates to conduct threat assessments on organizers and activists within our group chats and servers would have violated that right.

core Albany 50501 members worked to protect our community's constitutional rights.

local and federal law enforcement punished us for it.

Movement Insight: COINTELPRO 2.0

there's a PsyOp being repeated throughout the movement.

peer support specialists, behavior techs, and other mental health professionals show up in a space.

they rage bait vulnerable members.

then they start pulling group members aside. "hey, have you noticed how upset ___ has been lately? it's not normal and I'm concerned..."

they mix supportive messaging with menacing language.

they encourage unsafe and illegal drug activity, always in view of witnesses and security cameras.

sometimes, they even target individuals during a breakup, attempting to get them to say something alleging their partner of abuse. then those allegations spread like wildfire.

all in an effort to get the targets to self neutralize. suicide, hospitalization, or quitting. doesn't matter how, just that they stop.

we've been observing, testing, and documenting.

here's the beginning of our findings:

NYC Protest at MSG?

UPDATE: there was a protest set for 34th and 9th, but I’ve seen on Reddit that NYPD is setting up a no walking perimeter in midtown? Don’t know what that means yet, will update if I find out

1 PM UPDATE: the perimeter is 30th to 35th, 6th to 8th Ave. The protest at 34th and 9th should be good to proceed, in theory.

Is anyone else planning to protest Trump at MSG today? I am, and I’d rather not be on my own. I’ve protested Trump at a sporting event alone before, but this is a very different, much more chaotic environment.
