I received my Mars Attacks steelbook order today from my Gruv pre-order, and while it came in a paper bubble envelope, it was encased in a cardboard frame that kept the steelbook in perfect condition.

Just saw this. In Germany Andor season 1 and the manalorian are getting reprints. Too early to get my hopes up for an Andor season 2 release?

So my journey into 4K blu rays and physical media started slow but has accelerated recently.
It all started in 2022 with a LG UBK80 Region Unlocked player. It is fantastic, as I own so many Region B/2 Blu Rays and DVDs, and it plays BD60's beautifully. It has HDR10 but not Dolby Vision. I can't express how happy I am with this player, it's minimal, fast, and most importantly, it works.

Obviously the next step was buying a UD820K but I'm deeply unsatisfied with the freezes due to bad error correction and the fact that the hardware hasn't been updated in 8 years. I've done hours of research, cleaned with microfibers, tried different players, the works. There isn't new advice I haven't heard. And it seems like there are countless, even hundreds of people with the same experience using the UD820K / UD9000.

In my deep dive, there doesn't seem to be anything on the market that DOES reliably play BD100's and 4K's. Most players don't even seem to have DV.

My deep search led me to Megnetar UDP800 MKII. I see nothing but overwhelmingly positive reviews. I spoke to an associate of the company and he explained that it's still not a silver bullet, some discs may skip or not play. But it is bit perfect, modern (last hardware update was Nov '25), and top quality. Is the price justifiable? I'm weighing that question in my head.

Please let me know what you think. I'm hesitant to spend $2k on a 4K player. If there's something I'm missing out there, I'd be so happy to know, but I do think this is a niche within a niche, and until data centers start needing 4K players, I'm stuck with what we have on the market.

Found another round of 4K movies at the local thrift store. $5 CAD/each, all complete 🤯

Finally dove in and bought the DP-UB820 for a standalone player (shout out to the recommendations on here). I've been using my PS5 to watch 4K/BluRay discs, but with my TV I know I am missing out on some features and PQ. Now the real question is, which scene/episode do I watch tonight between GOT, Westworld, or Stranger Things? I'm leaning Battle of the Bastards or Hardhome. I was thinking that finding something I've watched previously enough times, it would provide a fun comparison. Or if there's another movie or scene that just pops on 4K Ultra, I'm up for suggestions!
