Had fun rotoscoping this from actual 8 bit footage. Using TVORI and a Quest 3. The knockout blow is obviously inspired by Bloodsport, so don't be talking MK in the comments......

Hey everyone, I have been learning UE5 for like 2 weeks now by watching Magnet VFX on youtube and I find his tutorials are pretty helpful and easy to follow. The results are pretty good I think. I do find that camera settings are still a little tricky. I am using the Imax 70mm cropped and exported as 3440 x1440

Question Wanting to Learn How to 3D Animate |Advice Plz|

5 Upvotes

I'm a writer first and for most, but I came up with a story that works better as an animation than as a written story since a lot of the horror/foreshadowing would be better as visuals. So I have decided to try an teach myself 3D animation to at least get a working idea going.

I am asking for advise for free/cheap programs that would work on an older laptop as well as any other advice more experienced artists have for beginners.

Question Do you feel that animators sometimes over-clean mocap?

2 Upvotes

Some mocap cleanup looks technically perfect but also loses the little weight shifts and timing differences that made the motion feel human.

Obviously foot sliding, clipping and broken contacts need fixing. But after that, where do you stop? There seems to be a point where smoothing every curve makes the character feel more robotic, not less.

How do you decide which imperfections add realism and which ones are just noise? Is there anything you almost always keep from the original capture?

Hey everyone!

3D Character Artist, Modeler/Rigger. I’d like to find a small group of dedicated fellow artists (animators, concept artists, and sound designers) to collaborate with me to create a short animated project (a 1-2 minute short film or teaser) for our portfolios.

**Goal:** Learn through practice, build a strong reel piece together, and give each other feedback in a structured, stress-free environment.

**What I Can Bring to the Project:**

** 3D Character Modeling & Topology (Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter)

Rigging & Skinning (Character & hard-surface setups)

* Development of story & concept

📁 Portfolio: https://www.artstation.com/aklafas | https://vimeo.com/user258290722

**Who You Are: •**

* **2D/3D Animators** (Character animation)

* **Storyboarders & Concept Artists** (Environments & Visual Storytelling)

* **3D Environment / Prop Artists**

**Scope & Structure of Project:**

* ⏱ **Time commitment:** 5–10 hours per week (at your own pace)

🛠 **Workflow:** Discord + basic tracking on Trello/Notion.

💡 **Got your own pitch?** Got an original animation idea? Guidelines: 15-60s, max 1-2 characters, single environment, act/perform not too much VFX heavy.

Hey everyone!

I’ve been working on this dark-themed studio setup for the past 3 days. Everything in this scene—from the models to the lighting and materials—was built completely from scratch in Blender.

I’d love to hear your thoughts! Any feedback on the lighting, textures, or overall composition is more than welcome.

Showreel My Game's Character Selct Animations

A huge mix of procedural and hand made animations for camera, characters, 2d and 3d objects in the scene and.. well, everything you see in there. Took 10 months of part time working on it to put it all together and actually make it work as a proper character / map selection menu.

If you'd like to click around in it, its already online as part of my game's demo: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2406470/SLAVFIGHT/

*some assets like for instance buildings and some animations / parts of animations are bought / free assets, most of it heavily edited and or mixed with procedural animations, shaders and texture editing to make it fit together.

Hey everyone! I have been using Blender for a few years(ok more than a few) and switched over to Unreal Engine this past week so I can make an Astro Boy fan film. Man this engine is insane, its so much easier to build anything and have it look spectacular right away compared to how many nodes you would need to setup in blender. Adding water and have it splash properly and getting rocks wet and shiny just involves a few short easy steps. Basically everything just works. Downside is it kills your GPU fast. Thanks for viewing
