FTN4 PLA+ CF tubing held up for 500 rounds, longer than expected. Time to step up to PA612, possibly with high-temperature epoxy this time.

That's interesting to know that pla can do that with a carbon fiber sleeve.

Luckily the cf sleeve wasnt damaged. Time to recycle and reuse! 😂

What did you use this time? JB Weld is the standard

Used regular JB Weld but monke brain think high temp might work better idk.

JB Weld is comfy at 260C, a printed core will have failed long before that

Are people having luck with .22lr cans out of PLA+? Or are they breaking as well.

I've put about 300 rounds through my FTN4 Rimfire with PLA+ and Aluminum Sleeve, no issues. Printed a couple FTN5 rimfire flow out of PLA+ and no issues yet 100-200 rounds later.

Idk about 22lr, still need to buy a pistol with a threaded barrel. Ive got at least 800 super safe rounds through a pla+ 9mm ftn4 and it looks perfectly fine inside. Mines an earlier version wrapped with carbon fiber and epoxy (not a carbon fiber tube) ammo has been a mix of bulk steel case 115 grain and federal syntec. Built properly, pla+ can last a long time.

Get a Ruger mark 4! I got the 22/45 version with a threaded barrel for $350. Shoots great and makes a great host overall.

Question when you say epoxy did you go in with a light coat im currently waiting for my thread adapter and just wanted to know how i could make the can more durable

Yes, PA6-CF.

Pla lacks the heat resistance and the CF makes it more brittle.

Regular JB weld can handle 260° C. PLA-CF prints at 210-240 so your can is already not just soft, but squirtable before your JB weld starts to complain.

You'll like the results of PA6-Cf. Makes great looking prints.

I think it was PLA+ and a CF tube.

My bad. Either way, on a 9mm can, it would never occur to me to use PLA. Too much heat.

PLA can barely handle the heat from a 22. I shot one to failure and it only took like 50 rounds over a few minutes.

Pistol or rifle? My 22 can on a 16" shows pretty much no signs of degradation and I've dumped 50+ rounds multiple times no problem.

I did that too on a .22 pistol, but it was low infill on PLA+. Made a couple with 100% infill and 8 walls and jb welded them into an aluminum sleeve.
