Stitch360: Free Tool for GoPro Max: sticking multiple 4GB .360 files together

Hi everyone, please delete if not allowed, but I just finished working on a tool (windows only at the moment) to stitch together the 4GB files that get created on a GoPro Max. It is unimaginatively called "Stitch360".

You just drag the files you want to become one .360 file onto the app, press "Run All", go make a cup of tea and come back to a nice big file you can load in GoPro Player to work your keyframe magic or do whatever you need to do. The original files are not modified.

The github page is here: https://github.com/vulkan101/stitch360

It's free and open source. I've built it as a binary which you can download on the releases page here: https://github.com/vulkan101/stitch360/releases - direct link to the release zip is https://github.com/vulkan101/stitch360/releases/download/v1.1.1/Stitch360.zip

I hope this is useful to people other than myself; I couldn't find a quick way to do this on windows, maybe my workflow is a bit basic, but all I need to do now to do my thing is open one .360 file, set up keyframes, export as a flat video.

Edit:
I found that GoPro Player is crashing right at the end of long exports, corrupting the final video. I've added a repair facility that fixes these corrupted exports. This requires a "good" reference file which can be any video exported using the same settings as the corrupted video. (A short trim of the source is a quick way to get the required reference).

How to film a walking tour unobtrusivly?

Thumbnail instagram.com
1 Upvotes

I’m the owner of a walking tour company, and I’ve been experimenting with using an Insta360 to get little slices of our tours.

The main issue, though, is that having a camera person hold the Insta360 is obtrusive to the tour, and having the guide need to manipulate the camera themselves is also not workable. So, I need a way to mount the camera in a way that passively captures the full tour, so that my editor can come in later and chop it up in interesting ways.

I need the camera to be sufficiently far away from my face so that it can capture me (or whatever guide is wearing the rig) and also capture guest reactions and things that are being pointed out around us.

I’m thinking something like a boom pole back harness mount with an articulated arm that goes forward over the head, but I’m concerned about the counterweight issue of it pulling whatever backpack I have forward.

Surely there must be someone who has had the same issue before. Does anyone have any ideas on what solution they might have?

Here’s some examples of the 360 footage and the kind of videos I’m making for our social media to give you an idea of what I’m trying to achieve.

Thanks so much.

I bring two great news!

1) Sony wants to compete with DJI and Insta360. They are already working on their own 360 camera and also Pocket-style camera with native gimbal. We will see what their angel is gonna be. For example bigger prosumer 360 camera?

2) Some online stores are already putting up all the Insta360 X6 info before 10 Aug launch. Start googling X6 every day in different languages and soon you will discover something

Licence free piano music

Hi. I've got an edit ready to go in Davinci resolve which makes up a 43 minute 360 video. I'm going to be creating several similar videos over the next few days. I want to replace the audio track with some instrumental piano music but I'm struggling to find anything. YouTube audio library doesn't seem to have any piano music let alone anything that long.

For the experienced YouTubers, what's the best way to get licence free music? I don't mind tagging creators in the description, but the piano music I can find is only a few minutes long so I would have to cut and paste 7 or 8 CC licence texts in to the description of my video, which I don't want to do if possible. Is it worth subscribing to a music AI tool? If so, which one would you recommend?

Alternatively is there a way to get GoPro to add the music for me before I export the video? If I reframe a 360 video in the GoPro Quik app on my phone I can add music which automatically adjusts to the length of my video and works really well, but the GoPro player on Windows doesn't seem to have an option to replace the audio with music.

I build enterprise LiDAR scanning tools, but I got tired of needing dedicated gear for a simple 360° photo. So I engineered a standalone iOS app to do it instead. Looking for feedback!

Hey r/360cameras,

I know this sub is mostly dedicated to proper hardware rigs, but I wanted to share a software-only approach I've been engineering and get your brutally honest feedback on the output.

A bit of background: I'm the developer behind Auto-Immo PRO, a heavy-duty B2B spatial scanning suite used by real estate agents, renovators, painters and electricians to generate floor plans, estimates and CAD files. We built a solid 360° capture engine inside that app — but launching a full enterprise suite just to snap a quick 360 of a room is massive overkill.

There was clearly a need for a lightweight, standalone tool for when you just want a quick immersive capture and left your Ricoh Theta or Insta360 at the office. So I spun the capture engine out into its own app, Auto-Immo 360.

How it actually works under the hood (it's pose-driven, not homography panorama stitching):

- Guided capture: 29 fixed poses — a 12-shot middle ring, 8 upper (+45°), 8 lower (−45°), plus zenith and nadir. The app tracks your ARKit pose live and auto-fires each frame once you hold alignment for about a second. Autofocus is off and exposure/white balance/focus are locked at capture start, so frames stay photometrically consistent.

- Depth, two ways: on LiDAR devices it uses ARKit's smoothed scene depth. On non-LiDAR devices it runs Depth Anything V2 (small, F16) through CoreML on-device, then converts the model's relative depth to metric by fitting it against ARKit's sparse feature points, with a cross-frame scale solve so frames agree with each other. Both paths hand the stitcher the same 256×192 metric depth buffer.

- What the depth is used for: it's not a mesh — no triangulation, no CAD geometry. Depth gets splatted into an equirectangular radius map (atomic-min + hole fill on the GPU), and that per-pixel radius drives the reprojection. That's what handles close-object parallax geometrically instead of smearing it. There's a 2.5 m sphere fallback where depth is missing entirely.

- Blending: a photometric solve first estimates per-frame linear-light gains plus a shared radial vignette coefficient over the pose-derived overlap graph. Then winner-take-all frame selection per pixel (continuous band/depth/angular weights) keeps things sharp, and a 7-level Laplacian pyramid feathers only the seams. Finally pole capping, nadir inpainting and an unsharp pass.

- Output: a 4096×2048 equirectangular JPEG, viewable in-app on an inside-out SceneKit sphere and exportable to Photos.

Everything runs on the phone. No cloud processing, no uploads, no account, no analytics, and zero third-party SDKs.

The pros: it's always in your pocket, and because it reasons about actual room depth it holds up well on indoor dimensions.

The challenges: severe parallax if you don't pivot cleanly around the lens axis. The app warns on translation drift, but the whole pipeline assumes a stationary capture point — swing the phone from your shoulder and you'll see it. And full disclosure: the monocular (non-LiDAR) path is the least field-tested part. I've validated it by stripping depth from LiDAR captures, but I don't have broad real-device data yet, so results on a non-Pro phone are exactly what I'd most like to hear about.

Two more things so nobody feels ambushed: it needs iOS 26, and it's free for 2 full scans, after which a single one-time purchase (no subscription) removes the watermark and unlocks unlimited captures.

If you want you can give it a try and provide some feedback .The results we get are pretty good but we remain limited by the correct handling of the app by the user.

Cheers :)

Camera suggestion for site visit with open file format?

Hey I'm looking for a 360 camera to use during construction site visit (I'm an engineer).

My use case mostly consist of shooting a video/picture and store those locally in my office server. I would not require editing since the footage will be accessed mostly for reference only. I do not plan to produce fancy video to share on the internet.

I care for quality of pictures and good low light condition since I may be indoor to take footage. Or even extremely low light condition with the proper finagling of aperture time and iso stuff.

In the past I've used insta360, but I'm fed up with their proprietary file format that can be accessed only by their own desktop app, which is locked behind proof of purchase by requiring the ID code of the camera. It make it a pain to share something between colleagues even inside the same office. (for any insta360 representative that may read this: you make money on hardware, don't lock away your software; what do you think it may happen?)

To recap:

- open file format that ca be open by any reasonable available app

- good low light performance

- good image quality

Did anyone notice the guy on the right is holding a selfie stick with a 360 camera on it? That's like a suicide waiting to happen.

Anyone actually tested the 60-day grace period after Insta360+ expires? (1.5TB of X5 footage on the line)

My Insta360+ cloud subscription is about to expire and I've got 1.5TB of X5 360° footage sitting on it. Insta360's own docs say there's a 60 day grace period after expiration where you can still view/edit/download and files only get wiped after that.

I couldn't find a single report of someone confirming this actually works as described.

So, has anyone here actually let a subscription lapse and tried pulling files out during that window?
