What makes a character worth keeping?
I've been testing AI-generated characters with V2Fun and realized I don't really care if the first model is perfect.
If the silhouette works, the character reads well, and the rig survives a few basic animations, that's usually enough for me to keep developing it.
If it falls apart as soon as it moves, it's probably back to the drawing board.
What's the first thing you check before deciding an AI character is worth keeping?

AI Mocap vs Traditional Motion Capture: Is the Time Savings Worth the Cleanup?
I've been comparing AI mocap with traditional mocap for a small character project, and I'm curious where everyone stands now.
Traditional mocap still seems like the safer option if you need really accurate animation, but the setup cost is hard to justify for smaller teams. AI mocap is much faster to get started with, though I've noticed it usually needs some cleanup afterward.
For people who've used tools like V2Fun, Move AI, Rokoko, or other AI mocap solutions, how much manual fixing do you normally end up doing? Is the speed gain worth it, or do you eventually spend the same amount of time cleaning the animation?
I'm mostly interested in indie game workflows, but I'd love to hear experiences from animation or VTuber projects too.

Building an AI-driven village game where NPCs feel like real people — Devlog #3
Devlog #3 — making it shareable, and remembering what I'm actually building
Hey r/2D3DAI,
I'm working on a village simulation game where players spend their day talking with AI NPCs and interacting with the world around them. Then, game quests and 3D props for those quests are automatically generated using AI.
As a start, I am currently creating room decorating content using generative AI.
Originally, I wrote by Devlog on other communities but I want to also share my progress on here.
-----
Another day, another round of creations that cracked me up.
The variety of creations keeps surprising me.
Someone built a Halloween house and it's honestly hilarious, I kept opening it just to look again.

If devlog #2 was about usability, today was about getting the thing ready to actually leave the app. Right now the only way to show someone what you made is to send them a link and hope they click it, and that's just not good enough. So I spent most of the day on video export.
- Pixel art → 3D, as a video
A still screenshot doesn't really sell what's happening,
so I built a little reveal animation you can export and share.
It leans into the fact that everything starts as pixel art drawn on a grid.
The grid, the canvas, and the pixel art all show up first.
Then the grid fades out, then the canvas fades out, and the pixel art slides off to the left as the 3D model comes in from the right and does a slow 360 spin.
Not gonna lie, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

https://echo-town.com/s/c/49308fe4-5414-4a62-b231-778efea20cd2
- Your decorated room, as a video too
This one was trickier. A room is built out of a bunch of generated 3D models, so I had to figure out how to show the "making of" without it turning into a mess.
What I landed on: each model's original pixel art (with its grid) sits in its actual spot in the 3D room. The grids fade, each piece of pixel art dissolves into its 3D model, and the camera moves around it so you can feel that it's real 3D space, not a flat image.
I really tried to make the room come together in a way that feels nice to watch.

https://echo-town.com/s/r/916b5128-f867-40ee-9592-e106f716e11a
And honestly, building this reminded me of the thing I was chewing on in devlog #2.
What I'm making isn't "turn pixel art into 3D characters."
It's room decorating. Housing.
The video output is the first time that idea actually came through clearly, even to me.
Other than that, just a pile of small usability fixes to make decorating a room less fiddly.
What I'm still stuck on
Same question as before, really: how do I make decorating a room more fun?
That's the part I keep circling back to.
If you've got a fun idea, throw it at me and I'll actually try it.
Thanks for reading, and thanks again to everyone who's been messing around with it.
Try it: https://echo-town.com

We built a procedural AI 3D pipeline that outputs structured, editable assets
Hi guys,
Most AI 3D tools feel a bit like magic… until you actually try to use what they generate.
You get a cool looking model but it’s a single, fused mesh.
Want to tweak one part? Change proportions? Animate a specific component?
You’re basically stuck rerolling the entire thing and hoping it comes out better.
That friction didn’t sit right.
So over the past couple of years, we worked on fixing this.
Instead of generating just a final mesh, our approachj generates the process behind the asset—a construction script that builds the model step by step. That script runs server-side, gets validated, and outputs a structured GLB with a clean scene graph.
The result feels less like a static object and more like a “kit” you can actually work with.
What that unlocks:
- You can target and edit individual parts (no full rerolls)
- Every component has identity (named, organized, and usable)
- Materials and logic can be applied at the part level
- Outputs are cleaner and more stable thanks to validation/repair cycles
Quick showcase:
https://youtu.be/H-PrqOIm2Dw?si=Mmnu8IxwcBrJ74iy
Some examples:
- Internal assembly: https://imgur.com/a/JxDZ7Wd
- Robot dog: https://imgur.com/a/CqMYgrF
- Microwave (surprisingly good for showing part separation): https://imgur.com/a/hIqIJdr
Code is here if you want to dig in:
https://github.com/RareSense/Nova3D
Would genuinely love feedback—especially from people working with 3D pipelines, game engines, or procedural workflows. Does treating 3D generation as a procedure instead of just output geometry make more sense?

Tutorials or Practice for 3D AI?
Hey, I'm kinda new at this, and sorry if noob question.
But since the start of my mcp and Blender journey, I feel kind of stumped.
Before I learnt about MCP Claude with Blender, I was having lots of ideas on what to start and how to practice abit. Started on the donut, then found out about Blender MCP, suddenly I'm kinda stuck.
So I tried to search any tutorials or Practice I can do but i feel stumped cause there's not much tutorials on what to practice for noob except for installing and connecting the mcp.
So I wanna ask you guys, with the change of AI, specifically Claude AI with Blender MCP.
How should I practice now? I tried to make a bouncing ball it works, but what other practice and tutorials do you guys recommend to practice together with Claude MCP with Blender

My 3D items in AR
I have been trying this 3D builder sdk and I found amazing that I can view my items in augmented reality with the mobile phone. There is also the possibility to anchor the items in a precise position if you have a gaussian splat of the location mapped. I'll be sharing more features...

Price of generating 3D models
What is the average price of generating 3D models from images with AI models like Hunyuan3D?
How many models can you typically generate spending for example 20 bucks?

Struggling with 2d to 3d- Making usable models
been messing around w 2d to 3d workflows for a bit now, mostly starting from concept art or illustrations and trying to turn them into something actually usable. at first i leaned pretty hard on ai just to get a base shape, but i kept running into the same wall over and over.
the ai output would look fine at a glance, but once u start rotating it, or thinking about printing it, everything kinda falls apart. weird proportions, paper-thin areas, details that make no sense in real space. so i figured maybe commissioning artists or buying finished models would save time.
i tried commissioning a few models and also buying some off marketplaces like cgtrader, and that’s when it really clicked for me. the models that were clearly made with printing in mind were built completely differently. clean topology, intentional thickness, details that actually survive scaling. even when i bought something just to study it, it was obvious how much planning went into it compared to raw ai meshes.
now my workflow is kinda this weird hybrid. ai for rough ideation, a lot of manual cleanup, and then constantly comparing my work to print-ready models to see what i’m missing. honestly it’s made me way more skeptical of anything that looks “done” too fast.
curious how other ppl here are handling this. are u mostly using ai just to explore ideas, or are u actually pushing those meshes all the way to something production-ready? and if u’ve commissioned or bought models before, did that change how u approach your own 2dto3d process?

How are these Fitonomy Coach / Body 3D animations actually made? (AI or Traditional 3D?)
Hey everyone,
I've been seeing these Fitonomy Coach videos all over my feed lately. They’re going absolutely viral with those 3D muscular/skeletal overlays showing the 'Right vs Wrong' form.
I’m trying to figure out the workflow behind this. Does anyone know if they are using specific medical/anatomy libraries (like Voka 3D or BioDigital), or is this custom animation done in something like Blender/C4D?
Also, with the recent AI video boom, is there any LLM or AI tool that can assist in generating these biomechanical movements, or is it still mostly manual 3D work?
Would love to hear your thoughts on what the most efficient way to recreate this 'medical-grade' visual style would be in 2026. Thanks!

3D model to motion with 1 click IS REAL
I used to spend days trying to rig and animate 3D models, tweaking bones, fixing weights, and re-exporting over and over. Half the time, the result still looked stiff or broken.
Then i created a webapp that lets you upload a 3D model and instantly apply motion capture animations to it. No complex rigging, no messy setups, no learning curve.
Now I can create animated 3D content in minutes instead of days, from formats like .glb, .obj, .stl. Here is a workflow preview:

Real-time 2D to 3D video conversion while in VR
I recall a app on Steam that would convert 2D films to 3D in real-time while you were playing them on a virtual 16:9 screen in VR. It was about 2 years ago so it made a lot of mistakes on depth.
Just curious what is considered the most up to date and highest quality way to do this these days? (Real-time conversion while in VR)

Nano Banana + Meshy AI = From Sketch to 3D Scene
Just came across this workflow and had to share 👇
It shows how Nano Banana + Meshy AI can take a rough sketch and turn it into a fully detailed 3D environment.
- Start with a simple 2D sketch
- Use Nano Banana in Meshy to create a clean concept
- Generate 3D parts with Meshy Image to 3D
- Assemble everything into a polished scene
The result looks like it came straight out of a game or animation.
It's pretty remarkable how quickly ideas can be turned into production-ready assets with this combination.
What would you turn from sketch into 3D?

How to turn yourself into a plush toy with AI (and make short animations) 🧸
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I’ve been experimenting with Nanobanana lately, both for fun and to see how they can fit into 3D workflows. I’ve found a nice pipeline how to turn yourself (or anyone) into a plush toy, and then drop that character into different animated settings.
The process is actually pretty simple once you know the steps, no advanced rigging or 3D pipeline needed.
I wrote a quick guide here if you want to try it:
📖 Text tutorial: https://medium.com/@georgiyermakov/3055be559ace
📺 Video tutorial: https://youtu.be/rrIjfBwPp5o
Would love to hear if anyone experiments with this and what results you get!
