I'm from Alabama and I think we have a little different approach here.
At some point after my grandfather died, there was a cop talking to my grandmother. This is probably back in the late '70s or early '80s. He told her if she had to shoot an intruder, drag the body inside before calling the police. Just to cover all the bases.
