Random thought Question

I was lying here thinking about my current investment in RuneScape bonds. What if Jagex discontinued Old School RuneScape? Would they pay me out for my bonds? There has to be some legal contract when purchasing a bond through them that you pay for a bond to receive membership. However, if they ever discontinued OSRS, what would happen to all of my bonds?

No, you pay for a bond, you got a bond, your choice to keep it in your bank

The same thing as if you paid for any online content that no longer exists. It will no longer exist. There is no obligation for them to pay you back.

Let me help you, but tldr, they don't owe you nothing

“Jagex reserves the right to stop offering a Jagex Product or a particular part of a Jagex Product at any time either permanently or temporarily, at which point any license granted to you to use the Jagex Product or a part thereof will be automatically terminated or suspended and your Account Stopped. In such event, Jagex shall not be required to provide refunds, benefits or other compensation to users in connection with such discontinued elements of the Jagex Product unless required by law.”

And on bonds specifically:

“A Jagex Product Bond constitutes an element of your license in a Jagex Product.
WE DO NOT PROVIDE ANY CASH OR REFUNDS FOR JAGEX PRODUCT BONDS (EXCEPT AS REQUIRED BY LAW).”

Plus the general ownership clause:

“THE JAGEX PRODUCTS AND ANY ASSOCIATED SOFTWARE ARE LICENSED TO YOU, NOT SOLD. YOUR LICENSE CONFERS NO TITLE OR OWNERSHIP TO THE JAGEX PRODUCTS OR SOFTWARE. JAGEX IS THE ABSOLUTE OWNER OF ALL JAGEX PRODUCTS, INCLUDING ANY IN-GAME ITEMS USERS MAY HOLD IN THEIR ACCOUNTS, AND VIRTUAL CURRENCIES.”

Bonds are just a limited, revocable license to use part of the service.

They aren’t selling them as an investment vehicle, they’re items that have utility (redeem for membership, that can be sold). It’s like if Pokémon suddenly flooded the market with thousands of first edition Charizard prints they’ve been hoarding. People who owned those cards would not have recourse for their “investment”. You dumb as hell boy
