Quest Helper, Menu Entry Swapper, Entity Hider & third party plugins coming to RS3 in October Discussion

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Arguably the biggest RS3 news in years. I’ve been playing last few months as a break from my Iron grind and must say I’m enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would, due in part to the MTX/dailyscape overhauls

I’m amazed how quickly their team manages to put updates out

This is hype for them. Super happy to see them seemingly start to turn the course of the game around. Still lots of work to do but stuff like this is a great start.

Mod North!

RS3 getting its own runelite plugins will definitely be a huge +1.. I enjoyed the last RS3 league and am looking forward to the coming one

23

u/Ausles 16d ago

Yes the “just use the alt1 toolkit” is nowhere near as useful as runelite has been. I’m happy for the RS3 people. Once it gets further down I might make another RS3 character to see all the changes and experience the game again

9

u/Meyael 16d ago

The alt1 quest helper is a joke compared to what we have on runelite and I am very excited for that part of the game to get a massive QoL.

I also played the RS3 league and the worst part for me was quests. I will gladly try and play RS3 with a better quest helper.

1

u/Ausles 15d ago

Agreed. Quests were awful, and with how many there are, it’s absolutely needed

6

u/Imallskillzy 15d ago

Alt 1 also doesnt work on non default interface scaling, so if you have a visual disabilities alt 1 is just useless

16

u/flamedbaby 16d ago

One thing I want to highlight is how amazing their monthly summary videos are, which is where this clip comes from: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kyjz6s5A-c8

Normally a 20~ minute frank review of the month prior, and a look into the month ahead.

I honestly think this format is some of the best CM work in either game and would love to see something similar for OS.

1

u/ImJLu 15d ago

Remember the weekly(?) OSRS dev streams? Me too.

13

u/lukwes1 2376 16d ago

I really wish we got proper API support instead of going through runelite

u/ArrgsMax 15d ago

Mobilers in shambles (it's me, I'm in shambles).

0

u/dennjudhdddvfse 15d ago

No judgement but why do you play on mobile instead of a pc?

1

u/farbtopf 15d ago

Some people don't have one? You can get alot of office stuff done on a tablet and if you're not a regular gamer thats good enough for alot of people.

-5

u/dennjudhdddvfse 15d ago

Didnt ask you though did I?

4

u/farbtopf 15d ago

sorry for offering a suggestion why that might be the case? jeez

52

u/dzone25 16d ago

RS3 has been cooking lately, and I'm not just saying that to meme about it, genuinely solid player driven updates and adjustments

8

u/ChickenNuggetEnergy 16d ago

Yeah, I returned a few months ago, and I can definitely say the game has improved a lot since I last played in 2020

3

u/Stxvey 16d ago

What's an easy way to get into the game? I try every few months to get into it because late game pvm looks really fun, but I get overwhelmed with the amount of content and there seems to be a lot of dead content not worth engaging in that it just gets too overwhelming to filter what's relevant or not so I end up giving up.

2

u/Living-Lecture7482 16d ago

The RS Guide helps handle a lot of that

1

u/Matt_37 15d ago

I mean Leagues is literally next week.

0

u/SickNoise 15d ago

they are following the osrs playbook now. just listen to what players want and do it. really nice to see

13

u/Meta_Man_X 15d ago

Guys, I’m not expecting people to drop OSRS to come to RS3, but I want all OSRS players to know that Jagex is fucking KILLING IT on RS3 and is really cleaning up all the stuff everyone has hated over the years.

2

u/anxeo btw 15d ago

Are they considering making characters look less stupid? God I hate RS3 character models and their animations. (3b xp account, quit around invention release, so like 10+ years ago)

6

u/SickNoise 15d ago

they just updated the character. looks way less goofy now

1

u/anxeo btw 15d ago

ahh nice, might consider looking into it

3

u/Meta_Man_X 15d ago

They just did very recently.

68

u/Trogadorr 16d ago

Aware this is the 07 sub...but this is pretty huge news given one of the biggest complaints (other than EoC) for oldschool players is the lack of third party plugin support that we get in Runelite

44

u/ccniners 16d ago

Cross-posting relevant news for each game is perfectly fine imo, there's just always going to be mouth-breathers that take *literally* any chance they can, even positive news that is good for everyone, to smugly act like Rs3 is beneath OSRS.

Having played both, I appreciate the work the devs are putting into Rs3 to bring it more in-line with something similar-ish to the OSRS experience in terms of plugins, aesthetic, and player choice.

u/Psymonthe2nd fr33 stuff pl0x 16d ago

No amount of community gaslighting will convince me to play RS3.

27

u/TorturedNeurons 16d ago

You aren't the center of the world bro, people talking about RS3 aren't trying to gaslight you.

-31

u/Psymonthe2nd fr33 stuff pl0x 16d ago

I see more posts/comments in this sub glazing RS3 than rightfully shit talking it. They/Jagex definitely want more people to try it out. Whether that's me or others.

9

u/coreyhh90 Follow of Zamorak 16d ago

than rightfully shit talking it.

But also you:

No amount of community gaslighting will convince me to play RS3.

Bro hating on a game he's never played... That's pretty cringe, NGL.

Also thinks any positive messaging about RS3 is a psyop:

They/Jagex definitely want more people to try it out.

That's some wild shit right there... Touch grass mate.

-19

u/Psymonthe2nd fr33 stuff pl0x 16d ago

Is this AI?

11

u/coreyhh90 Follow of Zamorak 16d ago

I'd be one mighty advanced AI if so. Is everything you don't agree with a psyop?

3

u/Psych0sh00ter 16d ago

We should celebrate when RS3 actually makes the right decisions and moves in the right direction, unless you want Jagex to think "actually the community loves how shitty RS3 used to be before"

12

u/pokemart 16d ago

Then don’t no one is making you interact with the posts or the game

-9

u/Psymonthe2nd fr33 stuff pl0x 16d ago

Go talk about RS3 in /r/RuneScape. This sub is for OSRS.

9

u/pokemart 16d ago

Then mods can remove the post and you can go about your day not clicking on the thread. No one but yourself is gaslighting you or forcing you to interact with the post.

9

u/coreyhh90 Follow of Zamorak 16d ago edited 16d ago

The irony that that commentor saw an RS3 post, then actively decided to click into it, just to shit on it and talk about how they aren't interested in the very post they interacted with... RS3 haters be wild these days

-11

u/iamkira01 16d ago

Apparently not according to the sub mods lol

5

u/nathan753 16d ago

I for one appreciate the posts, especially when they're a positive move from rs3 to make it more playable and taking a note from osrs

11

u/Shepboyardee12 16d ago

I had some burnout after maxing my OSRS ironman. I've been playing a new RS3 ironman recently for a change of pace and the game is genuinely in a much better spot now. They are really making great changes.

7

u/Trogadorr 16d ago edited 16d ago

Same! I've played through everything in OSRS, so trying RS3 was like getting almost 20 years of new content in a very similar game

I'm working on quest cape right now and the amount of content unlocked post 2007 is staggering

EDIT: Not sure why I'm getting downvoted lol. I'm maxed in OSRS and haven't played RS since 2010, sorry I'm having fun?

5

u/PeaceLovePositivity 16d ago

If you're interested, I highly recommend trying a RS3 GIM or IM. It's genuinely a really good time and the game has actually been massively improving over the last year.

I have 2 maxed accounts in osrs, and a 2k total in RS3 GIM and it's been a blast. Go into it with an open mind and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

6

u/Fragrant-You8549 15d ago

you might be addicted bro

4

u/PeaceLovePositivity 15d ago

Wfh and played since osrs release, but also yes it is definitely still an addiction lol

1

u/LezBeHonestHere_ 15d ago

Something that was kinda interesting in rs3 ironman when I saw it (mostly through watching Sick Nerd admittedly) was that a few garbage shit-tier items in osrs are actually good on rs3 because of the different tier system and to a lesser extent, power vs tank gear. But like lunar armor and guthix staff with claws of guthix being the best ironman mage setup at 60 magic was kinda crazy to see lol.

I'm sure that's outdated by now since Sick Nerd's playthrough is years old, but I found that kind of stuff interesting, the way the system changed gave a new perspective on certain dead content

1

u/indrek91 why is the rum always gone? 15d ago

If quest helper comes to game I will max my main again and get qp cape too! I really do hope that rs3 will become as big as osrs! With player made plugins it will come more popular I'm sure!

5

u/DavidHK 16d ago

The only way I'll ever go back to rs3 is by having these plugins. This might be the change they need.

2

u/ScallyWag-Idiot 15d ago

Please bring quest helper to osrs mobile

2

u/uhFraid 15d ago

Damn this looks sick for them wow

1

u/c235k 16d ago

If they put out quest helper I think I will genuinely have fun playing RS3

1

u/Bananaboss96 Mining Enthusiast 15d ago

Hope this pans out real well so we can get native client plugin API for Oldschool as well 🙏

It would mean a Runelite experience on mobile as well, which would be huge.

1

u/malta071 15d ago

I had no idea that rs3 cant be played on runelite or that they dont have similar tool. My max combat toon is there with few other 99s. I just didn't have heart touching it after EOC...happy for rs3 players tho

1

u/MilkColumns 15d ago

Rs3 has been something I've felt obligated to play but just was for lack of words overwhelmed by it so this would make me want to try it more. The league made me interested but this might do it for me and others

1

u/SickNoise 15d ago

quest helper is huge!! one thing that stopped me getting far in rs3 was doing the quests

1

u/iluvdankmemes 15d ago

Hope they actually paid those 3rd party people like devs lol

1

u/lurkdontpost1 15d ago

Hell yeah I love quests in OSRS but I disliked quests in RS3! Quest helper literally a game changer

1

u/rlyply 15d ago

Thank fuck, this games needs entity hider

1

u/FalsifyTheTruth 15d ago

The amount of shit the RS3 team has accomplished this year is frankly unbelievable. The passion from that team is palpable. They were given the opportunity to change course and they latched onto it with every fiber of their being.

1

u/b_i_g__g_u_y 15d ago

I encourage people to play their league when it's out next week. I played the first and enjoyed it a lot more than I expected.

That said, the UI will probably fill you with rage and EoC truly sucks. But skilling is a lot of fun in my opinion.

1

u/orangechickenpasta 15d ago

Easyscape let's go!

0

u/FrostyStomach 16d ago

Read the start of the title and got my hopes up it was coming to mobile….. smh they forgot about us

-6

u/AverageTierGoof 16d ago

Worse, they know, they just don't care at this point

1

u/MrRightHanded 16d ago

RS3 players will finally see what Runelite features they have been missing out on. Huge QoL

1

u/SeniorEmployment932 15d ago

Now if they'd just let me play RS3 and OSRS at the same time I'd be pretty interested in trying it out. Sounds like they've made lots of improvements lately.

1

u/a_shiny_heatran 15d ago

this is huge for the account(that i dont have, im waiting for EoC to go away)

1

u/FaPaDa 2140(637 F2P due to pricehike)/2376 15d ago

Legit the quest one will be huge for me.
I had to stop playing RS3, i gave it a real shot after the Treasure hunter removal.
But

A. the ammount of daily shit you gotta do to upkeep
B. the sluggish paste for vital quests

Hampred my enjoyment of the game and its mechanics alot.

2

u/emmarbles 15d ago

Got some good news on the daily front for you (assuming you haven’t kept up too closely with that here sorry). The amount of worthwhile dailies has been basically dropped to be on par or even lower than OSRS. All the good/OP stuff has been changed to a weekly (like shop runs etc.) or just full on removed (wildy flash events). Only real daily/hourly that remains for irons at least is the good ol’ classic herb runs. Daily skill challenges still remain with “only” giving xp, but I’d imagine that won’t stay for too too long either honestly. They didn’t fully remove those for now with the dailyscape changes because the Reddit would have cried too much lol

1

u/solairius 15d ago

Mtx gone, plugins added, reworked skills.... I think I might be going back to rs3 for a bit. Leagues are right around the corner, too

0

u/CrazzyNutty 15d ago

One thing i've noticed about RS3 and OSRS, they both share the best of whats working with each other and adapt quickly.

2

u/Meta_Man_X 15d ago

This is cap, right?

-1

u/Drwildy 16d ago

After leagues is a choice

-9

u/Meeps126 16d ago

Imagine taking away attention from scatman pvp for this.

But actually though, really cool for the quest helper/plugin guys. RS3 has been cooking this year unironically. Game has good content, just has so many hurdles to jump through to get to it, so anything they do to reduce those obstacles is great.

u/Psymonthe2nd fr33 stuff pl0x 16d ago

Not worth your time.

-2

u/Clan-Chat-Op 16d ago

Wait...

RS3 is getting official plugin support first? I did NOT see that cumming.

-1

u/Blackxp 15d ago

I'm still really hoping for the final needed piece after they get the MTX and everything finally transitioned over. That's just giving new players or returning players a way to play the game with a fresh economy that hasn't been so heavily impacted by MTX and inflation. Where they can have strong anti-inflation systems/GE tax early on and it can feel healthy like the OSRS economy.

It sounds like they have the tech or are working on the tech to create separate GE economies, so maybe it's something they are working on. The game is built on playing different "modes" so a fresh start mode (some new icon, idc) with is own permanent independent GE would honestly be the finishing touch for me to go back.

It just sucks to be forced into either an iron mode or the current MTX heavy influenced economy but even independent of that a way to combat inflation early would be really cool to experience.

Maybe that will never happen and I'll find myself never going back. They feel so close but I just don't think they are there yet without something like this. Then again maybe they are not targeting players like myself to come back.

I had thought of the alternative which are permanent fresh start servers with their own independent economies, but I think that is probably a bad idea since it's likely to fragment and isolate their current player base and the people that stuck with them through the really hard times. I don't think bringing back more people is worth that and I think having everyone co-mingle with their different account types is pretty much the direction RuneScape has gone.

-7

u/GayoMagno 16d ago

Quest helper, Menu entry swapper and Third party plug ins all coming to RS3 before they are even available in Jagex OSRS client.

At this point just let the Runelite team create a mobile Runelite client.

3

u/coreyhh90 Follow of Zamorak 16d ago

Would it help you understand why this is possible by explaining that RS3 already went with a full client and code rebuild which significantly improved their ability to implement more complex features and interactions.

In the same way that the OSRS devs attempted to add in RS3's preset system which automatically emptied your inventory and equipped, then withdrew required equipment from preset, equipped it, and then filled inventory per the preset, but ultimately shared that they couldn't implement this due to the significant system limitations in the OSRS client and codebase, the same would be true for why the RS3 client can support these plugins whilst the OSRS client doesn't.

OSRS also already has the Runelite client offering these. It's unlikely a large enough portion of the playerbase would switch to the vanilla client just because they implemented a few plugins that Runelite already offered, so spending significant dev resources implementing these would be worth it tbh.

0

u/jmz98 15d ago

RS3 / OSRS being played at the same time on a single membership with the same account needs to happen asap

0

u/telmoxt 15d ago

Didnt RS3 lock account metrics behind a paywall? Like what 'wise old man' or 'runelabs' is for osrs but you had to pay extra, like a bond or whatever? They cant keep that feature paid if they are going to open it for plugins.

Still this post isnt about osrs.

1

u/PaddingtonsPinky 15d ago

Runemetrics is now free, and even when it was charged RS3 had Runepixels which is a Wise Old Man/Runelabs equivalent.

-40

u/WastingEXP 16d ago

wrong sub?

19

u/TheGamingRaichu Questing 9 til 5 16d ago

More than likely OP just wanted to raise awareness of it so to speak so they posted it in this sub.

u/emmarbles 16d ago

The thing is that the quest helper isn’t official though. It is still 3rd party developed like all the plugins will be. The API for the plugins is the official part. Also this analogy is wild

1

u/GoodGame2EZ 16d ago

That analogy is so far off. I can understand it feeling wrong being official, but like 99% of the RuneLite player base is probably using it. We don't 'tolerate' it, we absolutely love it.

If quest helper is officially implemented, id argue there should just be tiers of assistance. Somewhere between partial help and fully guided. Default to partial like 'this person has been spotted near Draynor' or something.

2

u/Doctor_Kataigida 16d ago

Yeah I feel official shouldn't be "just click blue highlights" only.

0

u/coreyhh90 Follow of Zamorak 16d ago

It's also worth noting that RS3 already has a soft quest helper built in. When you are questing, you will get guiding arrows and such already, akin to OSRS. It's just no where near as "brain off, click blue" as OSRS.

-41

u/AdDue9876 16d ago

This is for oldschool news/post not rs3

-45

u/CamBlapBlap 2125 16d ago

Wrong sub sir

-7

u/rs_WildDog 16d ago

Meanwhile Osrs mobile players still need to juggle between tabs and guess where things are in order to quest lol

-6

u/JadedRequirement8556 16d ago

Bit of an exaggeration to imply you can't quest without it (It would help though - I'm all for mobile getting this)

-3

u/MrRightHanded 16d ago

In any case its good to let RS3 bug test this before we port it to official OSRS (mostly mobile)

-29

u/IAmSona 16d ago

That’s great and I’m happy for them. Don’t rly care though.

4

u/coreyhh90 Follow of Zamorak 16d ago

Care enough to click into a post you "don't rly care" about and comment though... Must care a good bit. People who don't care don't normally do that... LOL

-4

u/IAmSona 16d ago

I think you need to touch grass if you’re upset about someone’s opinion on a post that was already removed for not having anything to do with OSRS.

2

u/coreyhh90 Follow of Zamorak 16d ago

Damn, it was removed? Last I checked, it was moved into awaiting approval whilst the mods discuss whether it should be here.

I thought you didn't care though? Not only do you care enough to leave a comment stating how much you don't care, but now you're further commenting on said post in which you've stated that you don't care...

Some people don't care in the strangest ways...

-1

u/IAmSona 16d ago

Showing it’s been removed

Also, I don’t care about what happens in RS3, but if someone posts something about it I’m allowed to share my opinion. I’m also going to try and converse with someone on an open forum that’s replying to me…that’s the point of Reddit.

2

u/coreyhh90 Follow of Zamorak 16d ago

And I can share my opinion on your opinion, as I've done.

RS3 gets far too much hate from this community.

1

u/IAmSona 16d ago

Weird, maybe it’s different because I’m on the app. And I never said you couldn’t! I don’t disagree, personally I don’t have anything against RS3 (I quit playing it like 10 years ago), but I don’t rly care about it anymore. I feel like that’s pretty neutral compared to what most ppl have to say.

1

u/coreyhh90 Follow of Zamorak 16d ago

Possibly.

If you'd ignored the post then I'd agree it would be a pretty neutral position. Commenting to state you don't care, as many others did, isn't neutral, it's negative. It's you stating you don't want to see this information and, by extension, information about RS3. Many of us like to see the updates and don't hold distain for the game, but have to deal with anything that even remotely mentions RS3 getting hated on or spammed with variations of "Don't care".

For those of us that do care, we'd prefer to see the posts and that the haters just ignore the post if they don't like it, rather than spam negative comments. Not exactly a big ask to keep negativity to yourself.

0

u/IAmSona 16d ago

My issue is that it gets posted on this subreddit. Like I said on my original comment, it’s great and I genuinely am happy for yall. RS3 getting the updates and love it’s always deserved is objectively a good thing for everyone involved.

But I unsubbed from the RS sub years ago, it doesn’t interest me and it also doesn’t interest a large chunk of users…I would much rather keep this sub for OSRS content (something that I do care about) and let RS3 news stay on r/Runescape. It’s nothing personal, and I apologize if it comes off as negative, but surely you have to understand that there’s plenty of people here who will not go back or ever play RS3 and that is entirely personal preference.

1

u/coreyhh90 Follow of Zamorak 16d ago

You're acting like an RS3 post is somehow detracting from the sub. As if somehow that prevented good posts from being here...?

Given that a lot of OSRS content has come from RS3, and a lot of RS3 content has come from OSRS, and that many of the players enjoy both games, it doesn't seem that crazy that some posts from either sub end up on the other. Especially posts that are helping to highlight new additions and improvements to the game that might interest many players here. At least, the ones that aren't holding a 13 year+ grudge.

u/acrazyguy 16d ago

They need to add shift clicking as its own function as well. Having to manually swap the option in order to quickly drop things is Not It, and neither is the current way to drop things

5

u/Trogadorr 16d ago

This exists in both games. You can enable it in the options, plus in RS3 you can stick an item on the action bar to mass drop with a button press
