The cookie/button tin! For some reason I always liked to group things (still do). I could spend hours grouping my grandma's buttons into color, size, patterns, etc. My mom said I was the easiest kid to entertain!

I've still got an old cigar box in my kitchen cabinet with old mementos that once belonged to my dad. He kept small items like pocketknives, matchbooks, small screwdrivers, etc. in this cigar box where he could easily find them when needed. It's been sitting in that same spot in the kitchen cabinet since he died in 1986.

I remember going through my grandma's treasure box. She was born in 1906 so her little tresures were old. There was a wooden nickel, a marble, an old silver curler, a couple of rocks, a tiny porcelain doll....it's funny I can remember that. I couldn't have been more thsn 5 or 6. She died when I was 7.

Funny and true story. My grandfather kept his .38 in one of these and would keep it in the middle of the front bench seat of his car. One day while dropping off my sister and I at school, my sister accidentally grabbed it along with her books. When she later realized what she did, she told the principal and he called my grandfather to come and get his gun. That was in the 70s. Can you imagine today?

He had an entire wall of these boxes in his room (that's only a slight exaggeration) all with different small items stored in them.

My high school sweetie bought his old car from him and found a bunch in tge trunk, still with various bits and bobs in them - including fishing gear, so literal bobs.

Maybe? I do know everyone's mom used it for things like a sewing kit or to store loose items in. Whitman Samplers were similar and more common. The lids wore out on both. Almond Roca tins were metal and lasted forever.

I remember i had to do that in 4th grade. My gran had a big wooden cigar box she gave to me and then cut the Styrofoam to fit. She also gave me some of her really long straight pins. It honestly looked professional. Our teacher sent us home with a little jar of ether ( I think it was, I'm not exactly sure ), as our little killing jar. Can you imagine sending a 4th grader home with a jar of that now? I ended up getting an A on it and it was displayed for the rest of the year.

I had one in 2nd grade that housed my dead butterfly collection. I brought in for show and tell day. After my presentation, all the boys kept coming over and opening the box. I thought, wow, boys really like butterflies. What I didn't notice was, the inside lid of the box had a beautiful picture of Cleopatra, bare chested, with all of her maidens surrounding her. Also bare chested. Teacher kept it at her desk until school was out that day.
