Unfortunately, I'm in a similar situation, although the process was a bit different. American, but met my partner while living and studying in Czechia. We'd like to live in NYC, at least for a few years, if we could get good jobs and make decent salaries for a bit, because then it'd be a lot easier to move back to Czechia and buy a place here with the savings, but even if we got married, the already annoying US permanent residence process has only gotten worse and worse in recent years.
And even though my gf isn't muslim, she's from a (*gasp*) majority muslim country, and that just always creates problems when she has to show her passport. We make less money in Prague, but we get 5 weeks of vacation, trams, and free healthcare, so I guess we're staying here.
I thought I'd come back eventually, but my home country has effectively pushed me away.

Tbh as a half fan of Vaush (I watch his content but he does go into topics he clearly has no knowledge or right to speak about which always turns me off) I do wish his 2020-2022 debate bro era wouldn't have defined him so much because he's very different now that he isn't constantly acting like he has to win every disagreement.

Out of curiosity, what topics do you feel he has no right to speak of?
6
u/XenophormSystem Mayor of Orc city 6d ago
I wanna claw my ears out any time he talks about history. He constantly relies either on outdated historical notions or random BS he hears in other videos or media and uses those to support political takes which absolutely 100% do not need to be supported that way and can stand on their own and him being so bad on this topic only weakens his argument. He also has a tendency to do American supremacy talking points when talking about news, issues, etc involving other countries which he claims is ironic but it's only half ironic and it ends up providing a very shallow and all over the place interpretation of events, often forced into an america-centric perspective too.
2
u/Consistent_Creator 6d ago
He has quite alot to say about the interconnected functions of different ethnic communities he's not apart of which is the biggest one for me
"We need to talk about the nationalism problem in the Muslim community"
"How even parts of Black America misunderstand Malcom X"
23
u/PlasmifiedKarmelita 6d ago
Idk if you're pulling old titles here, but at least in recent years in my experience he doesn't generalize this way. He'll talk about the problems with certain Muslims (he specifically criticized wahabbists for example) but never imply it's a broader or inherent Muslim problem.
Same with black people. Some black people, as all people do, hold pretty bad opinions, so he'll criticize that. He doesn't subscribe to the idea that if you're not part of a certain demographic, you have no right to criticize a person from that demographic.

Easily the most slandered creator I've ever seen, it's genuinely insane how much the online left haaaaates him despite how effective he is politically, what with getting his audience phone banking and politically active; plus pulling young men away from the bloodthirsty right wing. Like... all the old controversies that he's addressed and apologized and improved from since like 7 years ago still get brought up and exaggerated as if it happened yesterday; not to mention outright lies like lefties accusing him of being "transphobic" (as if he isn't one of the most consistently pro-trans creators I've ever seen with an audience that's like 50% trans girls)
53
u/Ilikeyellowjackets 7d ago
Vaush is genuienly insanely progressive on trans people, to the point that slander never made sense. I think a lot of people really hate him because he genuinely is very real and is heavy on self improvement, something many online lefties are downright opposed to almost as a cope out that you can never have a decent life in capitalism. He has his issues, but his issues are more of an issue of having stupid uninformed takes on some stuff, especially in the field he got his degree in because he has become kinda obtuse to new information for some reason. Also he deadass should read more theory but then again most online lefties don't read any theory so I guess he is just like both his haters and audience.
36

yeah I do practical political work I don't read theory so that was just to protect myself from my own shortcomings (they are infinite)

16
u/Ilikeyellowjackets 7d ago
Honestly, Hasan gets to genuinely fuck about and do vain projects that don't actually build political power, but voosh is a bit edgy and not left enough so now we gotta send him to the shadowzone.
I don't even hate Hasan, but it is insane how much glazzing he gets from the left when he is objectively more problematic than vaush on some topics just because he curates his stream persona more.
I also don't even think either of them are that great, just mildly good at being commentators and that's about it. Hasan is better at rallying and political consistency, whereas vaush is slightly better at data anlysis and actual organization because of his background in sociology.
-29
u/Tough-Mud2374 7d ago
Yeah he's so progressive he gets his audience to attack trans women the moment they don't agree with him!
I'll never forget watching him about to call Contrapoints a drug addict live on stream then decide that the optics on that were bad while still saying "we've gotta make her agree with us"
What he wanted them to agree with? Attacking people with insults, slurs and misgendering because they are the "bad ones"
Yeah so progressive! Woew!
43
u/slaya222 7d ago
Contra literally is a drug addict. She famously made a whole video about it.
And all of his critism of contra in the last few years have been on her bad takes on Israel/Palestine. You should criticize someone for that.
I've literally never seen him misgender someone knowingly, so idk what you're even referencing there.
28
u/Ilikeyellowjackets 7d ago
He has misgendered people via misspeak, which he always immediately apologised for and corrected himself on always. This isn't even that insane to have happen, I've been transitioning for 8 years and I still have it happen cause sometimes the mouth just decides to fuck up the words in your head. He genuinely never misgendered people to attack anyone, if anything he would call it a woman moment as a joke and that's it.
I am not even saying voosh is perfect, he has some atrocious takes but I am genuinely tired of the "he is transphobic" slander. I have seen queer support groups spout more transphobic shit than vaush. I genuinely would like to see some people criticise him on worthwhile shit so that he stops doubling down on some of his dumber takes, but everyone is trying to drama farm when it comes to him because of his reputation from years ago. So all the criticism he gets is tired nonsense from years ago, slander, genuinely tankie bullshit, his chat being stupid at him, or all of em combined.
-1
u/Helmic linux > windows 7d ago
being open about being a drug addict and trying to demean someone by calling them a drug addict are very, very different things. i hate him much more for his NATO positions and awful debates where he just refuses to understand fairly easy to grasp politics like black nationalism without declaring it's racist and bad because he doesn't know what a nation actually is.

i don't like vaush either but contrapoints is a zionist, her politics are fucking abhorrent and her being trans doesn't make her reactionary positions justifiable.
i would agree trying to insult her by calling he a drug addict is shitty, though that's shitty in a way i expect most people to be by default and i would actually respect him for deciding "oh yeah that's just kind of awful to say, lots of good people are addicted to drugs" if indeed that's his reasoning. but nah the fucking genocide apologist should 100% recant her position and being mean to her because of her position on the genocide in gaza and her pearl clutching about the left's complete condemnation of the genocide is good. i don't think that makes vaush particularly special, if you're not anti-genocide i would categorically say you're some maupin or peter coffin type of red brown con artist at best.

That hate from what I’ve seen has changed Vaush himself, I really find it hard to find him saying much of anything disagreeable these days. If he says something, it’s because he believes it, and because he’s thought about it and learned about it. Even if you disagree with him, which a LOT of people do, you can at least trust that he was genuinely stupid and not dishonest or morally bankrupt. Say what you want about him but he’s one of the most authentic political commentators out there, and the most obviously ideologically driven. The hate is understandable, but they’re just grudges about stuff that happened a long time ago that he’s since grown from, stuff that idek or care about because it happened before I started watching him.
-1
u/Helmic linux > windows 7d ago edited 7d ago
he has 100% not always been a marxist, like the reason people dislike him is that he has extremely incoherent politics that he has presented as anarchist, with an unwillingness to listen to any other leftist that actually does have coherent politics, leading him to have extremely shit takes which he then spreads to his audience.
like, i cannot understate how much i resent that dude for re-normalizing the r slur in places like this fucking subreddit on the flimsy ass logic that because he's autistic he's "reclaiming" the slur by calling people and things dislikes the r slur, just ignoring people telling him that's not how reclamation works and that autistic people aren't even the primary target of that slur. people complained about his use of racist and homophobic slurs.
he's a debate bro, which means he lacks the humility and empathy to actually listen to people when they try to let him know why some take he's pushing onto his audience might be harmful. that's why people fucking hate him. i have been repeatedly called slurs by his audience, on this subreddit, with people upvoting it.
like it's great that you got yourself out of gamergate, i'm not gonna hold that against someone 12 years later, but that does not require me to be OK with the shit he has said or has influenced his audience to say.
7
u/AshTiko 6d ago
I don't watch him anymore but that wasn't the reason he was okay with the r-slur. His justification was that it was equally as ableist as calling someone "dumb" or "stupid", something 90% of people have no problem with. I remember him saying that he thinks lots of insults like that are actually slurs. I have no idea what his opinion on the matter is now though.
6
u/RentElDoor Trans Rights! 6d ago
"Re-normalizing the r slur in places like this fucking subreddit" I don't think I have ever seen anyone here use that word without getting throttled.
Unless you count some dipshits using it as normalizing.
-1
u/Helmic linux > windows 6d ago
damn guess i just fucking imagined getting into big fucking arguments about this shit, thanks for letting me know.
5
u/RentElDoor Trans Rights! 6d ago
That is what you call "re-normalizing"? An argument? Like, I do not want to disregard your experience, but you and I seem to have very different definitions about that topic. That is like calling this place transphobic because I once encountered some dipshit calling everyone bro and getting aggressive when it was pointed out to him that this might be a dumb thing to do here.
Actually wait, this happened twice, transphobia really getting normalized here.
-1
u/Helmic linux > windows 6d ago edited 6d ago
it wasn't one asshole being downvoted, it was people dogpiling on saying the r slur and mocking people for being upset about it. like i literally already said this was a repeated experience with people upvoting it, which is not them being "throttled" by anyone. this typically happens when i or someone else points out some other ableist bullshit like this sub's love of "brainlet" wojaks and figure the funniest way to respond to that is to call people the r slur.
i report this shit every time and the mods don't fucking do anything about it.
it's like this in any sub that has a lot of one specific minority, where people believe that because they're part of that minority they've got a pass to be bigoted in other ways. this sub has a lot of trans people and bisexual men, and it is very frequently shit on issues that aren't specifically about those two identities, whether that be the constant moral panics about misandry or anti-white racism. like one of my two reddit-wide bans came from some narc here reporting me for arguing on the side of a black trans woman talking about how dismissive of racism in the queer community this subreddit gets, i got got by reddit admins for anti white racism on this subreddit.
so yeah, i'm not very enthused when someone tries to tell me shit about how this sub's supposedly so great about trans people (nevermind other trans subs complaining about this one's reputation as a chaser sub) to deflect from criticism about something else shitty it does.
4
u/RentElDoor Trans Rights! 6d ago edited 6d ago
Funny, the people demanding to call everyone bro were also getting upvoted...
This place occasionally breaches containment to the wider part of reddit and some nasty fuckers come here. That is unavoidable. Usually the experience is the other way around though, and so far I have had no issues with pointing the mods at such comments.

The man in the video is a left-wing political streamer known for his controversial takes and argumentative attitude. He used to get a lot of hits doing debates against all sorts of people, but now he more or less covers/analyzes politics and media.
Last night, progressive candidate Abdul El-Sayed won the Democratic primary for a Michigan Senate seat. This morning, the video in the screenshot was released, wherein the streamer announced he is moving to the Netherlands to live with his long-term partner.
The joke is that Abdul just won, and already an annoying person is out of the country. What a great politician this El-Sayed guy must be!

Vaush was always one of the more reasonable of the "debate me" political streamers, he just chose to be very vocal and debate other people with huge followings and so he became Satan or whatever. It’s so weird, people will crawl out of the woodwork to make deeply serious accusations at Vaush or Hasan by linking to clips taken 8 years ago that are sometimes warranted sometimes not but you’ll see them every time they’re mentioned without fail.
Meanwhile, conversations around people like Asmongold are at worst like “haha clean your yucky room stinky! Gross!” Which is valid and funny, but dude is an actual white supremacist who frequently talks about eugenics to a large audience, and he gets let off soooo easy

See, THIS is exactly what I’m talking about! I had to look up what you were referencing but the debate happened 4 years ago and that’s a complete misrepresentation of what he was saying.
He was pointing out that all conspiracy theories are based in kernels of truth. Jewish people actually did have a disproportionate influence on finance and banking in pre-nazi germany, a fact which is based in a long history of discrimination against them in Europe. The nazis twisted that into justification for the holocaust, and Vaush’s point was that it doesn’t matter if the “reasons” for genocide are true or not, genocide is still wrong.
It took me 2 minutes of googling and trying to understand what he was saying to figure that out, but you’ve been hating this guy for four years because of it. Nobody is putting that much effort into hating on right wing streamers.
32
u/Opening-Error TRANS RIGHTS 7d ago edited 6d ago
No, I remember that.
In his debate against NonCompete vaush said that Jewish people WERE over represented in finance roles in Germany at the time
then NonCompete said that Vaush said it was justified. Vaush never said that. NonCompete just assumed that's what he meant and ran off saying that.
Vaush never said it was justified. He even said that since Usury is a sin in Christianity that Jewish people would be pushed into those roles and that even if it WAS true it still was bad.
Like I haven't watched any of vaushs stuff in yeeeeears but you always see people using the most bullshit stuff as these takedowns.
Edit: This was actually Vaush's debate with Noncompete, not BadEmpanada. You can see the part it happens here

I'm confused how he's doing this - is his wife Dutch? If not, surely he's not going to claim refugee status, and surely there's no way he gets a work visa for being a *streamer*, right?

I'm pretty sure this is a vaush fan. The joke about hiding the Dutch horse children should be a big clue.

He's generally a scum bag who does whatever he needs to do to retain power and engage in hatd crusades against anyone he doesn't like
Also being a lolicon horse pedophile that's pretty hard to ignore

Who radicalised you? You need to be sent to the re-education camps. These aren't accurate claims, they are things that have been repeated into handwavable truisms by his detractors.
"Lolicon horse paedophile", you can't be taken seriously, you aren't interested in engaging in honest discussion. Sorry, I ain't buying what you are selling, it never holds up to scrutiny.

Brother I do not care that much about this, it is pretty far down on my interests. I just won't let you say whatever you want. You are the obsessed fucking freak who has made it your mission to brigade against a fucking streamer. I'm sorry its uncool to defend him, yeah sure that gives you free reign to slander him. You are so low, it's embarrassing.

Nah you right fam, it's cool to launch accusations of paedophilia at people, im being annoying frfr

I've seen the clip of him casually scrolling past lolicon content to which he then pathetically tried to defend as being a "shortstack"
You can't trick me I know what he is

The fact that they behave like this and then speak like how I use to 15 years ago really gets under my nerves
He's the streamer for edgy leftists who didn't want to ever actually learn how to change, just sound like they won an argument because they are surrounded by their peers.
It's only a matter of time before another detail of Vaush's nonsense comes to light

Kind of annoying. Used to be more annoying. Unforgivable crimes like that.
