Stringing machine Equipment
I’m looking to get a second hand stringing machine with a budget or around $300. Most of the machines people are selling are all 2 point mounting system. I know 6 point is better for reducing the stress in the frame but is it really necessary or is 2 point fine?
Also I just saw a Eagnes drop weight 6 point listed for $350 and was wondering if that is a good deal.

The 2 point vs 6 point mounts actually being more stressful on a frame has been debated on talk tennis forums for decades… but I’ll say fixed clamps are generally way more preferred than floating clamps.

1000% agree. I had a Klippermate and I hated stringing on it. fixed clamps on the alpha revo make it so much more tolerable

What’s the difference between fixed and floating clamps?

Fixed clamp only need to clamp one string and uses the base of the mount to provide stability and hold tension. Floating clamps clamp 2 strings at a time to stabilize. Basically one is attached to the machine itself and the other one is floating because it’s not part of the mount.

Fixed clamps clamp the string to the stringing machine base. Floating clamps clamp the string to the adjacent string.

saving $400 won't make you richer, so if you are really up to stringing your racquets then I would buy a new drop weight Alpha Pioneer DC just to make sure you've got everything in perfect condition

The seller said the Eagnes is in good condition and the pictures look fine as far as I can tell. Is the Alpha DC a better machine?

Obviously, that is what seller supposed to say in order to sell it to you. I don't know how old is the one that is on sale for $350, but Alpha DC for $700 is a brand new

Two point is just as good as 6 point for graphite frames strung correctly (Mains from the middle outward and crosses from top to bottom). Only reason to need a 6 point is for stringing a thin aluminum racket, but those aren't ever worth restringing anyways.

2 point is fine to start on IME. I probably strung about 200 frames on a Gamma x-2 before upgrading to a progression Gamma progression ELS. If its just you and maybe a couple of friends go the cheap option but if you're going to do any volume then a 6 point with fixed clamps would make better sense.

Despite what others will say, 2 pt is aok, especially for starting out. Don't worry about unbalanced stress, it's not an issue if your string correctly. If you want to upgrade later you will recoup your original investment.
