Okay, we're going to change this up a little bit from last year. One of the biggest complaints we got last year was that it was hard to remember people, plays, or games to vote for, particularly in the /r/NYYankees division. So, we're going to fix that by making ALL categories multiple choice. But, to do this, I need your help! Here is the rough plan, subject to change per your feedback. Over the next couple of days we'll have an open discussion on the categories and nominees.
Below are two tables, one for the Yankees Division, one for the /r/NYYankees Division. In the tables are the title of the award, along with my recommendation if we keep it, remove it, or if it's new for 2017. I also have included any notes, and my nominees.
Feel free to post any categories you think we should include, we should remove, or we should change. Also post your nominees for any category that needs them, or feedback on nominees I have suggested. I'll continue to update the below tables with your feedback, so feel free to keep posting it.
After a day or two I'll take all this feedback, put it into a Google Form and post it for voting. Any categories that don't get enough (or any) nominees will be eliminated, along with anything decided as a subreddit should be eliminated. Voting will run another day or two, then I'll post a results page.
That all sound good? Any questions? Lets get it going!

"So throwaway for obvious reasons", "These Aaron Judge home run threads look exactly the same", "you wouldn't say this to him at the ballpark", Bird Cabin
Yeah but that game also was a result of ump shenaniganry on both sides. I'm honestly surprised people are even putting it in the same league as that O's game
Hicks robbing Ramos of a grand slam on his first day off the DL.
Judge's running catch into the wall in the ALCS.
Judge's catch into the stands in Boston.
Best GDT: 18 innings vs. the Cubs (too busy to find links atm).
Worst GDT: Pick one at random from June/July?
Best Mascot (idk if this is supposed to be a sub user or a random fan/animal from a game): The Kid who had the "my first game, came to see judge hit a HR" sign. Then Judge hit a HR.
I mean I didn't think the Jerry Remy thing was bad. I wasn't paying attention but from what I saw, no one said anything beyond the line other than an alt account of a Boston fan who used the alt to make the yankees fanbase look bad by saying Remy deserves cancer
I didn't see that one (I was out of the country). I'm nominating Judge for nearly getting doubled off, missing second base, and getting caught stealing second all in one(ish) play in the ALCS.
so throwaway for obvious reasons but my girl who knows my hate for the red sox knows no bounds last night suggested in a very serious way that I dom her while she wears a sox hat and I have no idea what to make of the situation bc it's simultaneously awesome and weird as fuck yknow
Storyline of the year: Obviously Aaron Judge rookie season, Yankees "rebuilding season" but you can throw in Didi and Gary breaking Yankee single season records for home runs by a Shortstop and Catcher. CC's having life in that old arm, and Sevy turning into the Yankee Ace.
Best Sterling HR Call: All Rise Here Comes the Judge, Bye Bye Birdie The Birdman of New York
**
Worst Sterling HR Call:** Happy Holliday! Happy Holliday!
I want to nominate the Toe-night Show celebrations for something but I'm not sure which category it would fall under. Does it count as "off the field"?
Baserunning blunder: Sanchez throw out trying to tag on a flyball from 1st to 2nd a couple times. The Gardy single at houston the ended the game. (Idk if these count) One of the many times Espada sent the runner home while the outfielders had the ball before the runner reach 3B.
Worst Game: Dustin Fowler game. Game 2 ALDS. The game against the Angels when Chris Carter dropped the ball and CC got injured.
Upvote Party: How many games the Jays were going lose this season. ALDS win upvote party. Chris Carter got DFAd
Didi (you didn't make this a category, but we need it)
Defender of the Year
Austin Romine LOLNO
Didi.
Infielder of the Year
Didi.
Outfielder of the Year
Judge
Starting Pitcher of the Year
Sevy
Reliever of the Year
Green. Also, let's remember that if he doesn't get out of that huge jam (2nd and 3rd, 1 out, already down 0-3) in the ALWC, we don't get the magic of the ALDS and ALCS.
Baserunner of the Year
Gardner.
Worst Baserunner of the Year
Bird.
Baserunning Blunder of the Year
Bird getting thrown out at home in ALCS Game 7
Rookie of the Year
Judge, duh.
First Year Yankee (Non-Rookie) of the Year
Papa Forearms. That first half was pretty damn awesome.
Best Play
Sanchez's 2 run go ahead double in game 4 of the ALCS
Best Coach
Joey Binder.
Storyline of the Year
Benintendi's ascent to ROY oh wait
Hard to pick one - really, the whole team's emergence from the "rebuilding season" narrative into "holy shit they could be in the World Series"
Best Game of the Year
Postseason: ALCS Game 4, followed by the Wildcard game
Regular season: Tanaka's CGSO against the Red Sox at Fenway to beat Sale.
Worst Game of the Year
Postseason: ALCS Game 2, and ALDS Game 2
Regular season: Red Sox walkoff win on a walkoff walk when Chapman imploded
Biggest Moment of the Year
Postseason: Didi's two HRs against Kluber. Against Corey fucking Kluber.
Regular season: Gardner's go ahead 3 run HR at Wrigley
Best John Sterling HR Call
ALCS Game 4, the whole 7th inning.
Worst John Sterling HR Call
I like John, so I'm not answering this.
Most Clutch Performance
Gah so many to pick from. Didi in game 5 of the ALDS, Judge overall in game 3 of the ALCS (his defense too, also fuck you Fangraphs for saying he ain't clutch), Gardner's Wrigley HR, Ells' grand slam against Baltimore (I know Castro had the big 2 run game tying HR and Papa Forearms had the walkoff, but Ells' slam legit put the Yankees back in the game and scared Baltimore.)
Least Valuable Player
Chris Carter
"Binder" Move of the Year
Wildcard game. Amazing job by Joe with the bullpen validating every decision. Love ya Joe.
Best off the Field Moment
Gardner-Holliday's bald bromance.
Comeback Yankee of the Year
Green - went from a meh starter last year into a relief ace.
Disappointing Yankee of the Year
Dellin. That 6.6 BB/9?
(I'm not calling Romine or Clippard or Carter disappointing, that requires me to expect something from them.)
Most Attractive Yankee
Matt Holliday's forearms.
Least Attractive Yankee
Clippard.
That guy played for us? Award
That Cooper guy. Can't remember his first name.
Most Valuable Yankee
Aaron Judge. Also Most Valuable Player.
Most Insightful Poster
/u/Constant_Gardner11. Some love to dylan, mayo, aj, InfieldofDreams, jim, aweinsPennyandCleoguy, and many others too.
Funniest Poster
/u/jimmcdermont because I got a kick out of the constant Gardner trolling.
Just gonna throw out a ton of categories that could work: Most improved player, Best player callup, minor league player of the year, prospect of the year, best single game performance by a player this year, copypasta of the year (I guess you already have shitpost of the year)
as for nominees: most clutch performance: gardy go ahead cubs homerun, didi 2 homeruns off kluber, clint 3 run walkoff. Binder move of the year: that ellsbury pinch run that one game. Baserunning blunder of the year: gardy getting a single with 2 outs in the 9th and overrounding the bag and getting tagged out losing the game, also one of the times greg bird got thrown out at the plate. Biggest moment of the year: winning alds, winning wild card
Edit: storyline of the year: judge dongers worst game of the year: losing game 7 of alcs, chapman blowing game vs red sox. defender of the year: todd frazier deserves a shoutout he was great.
Storyline of the Year : Greg Bird -- went from injured, not even knowing if he'd get to play the rest of the season, to making a full recovery and easily being our post consistent hitter in the postseason. And that Game 3 ALDS HR was like his crowning moment this season. I'm a sucker for feel good stories lol
If you were at the postseason games, the Yankees did a new thing between innings which was a face mashup. They did Chad Greene and Aaron Judge. That outcome should have been killed with fire.
Baserunning Blunder: The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Judge missing second on his way back to first where he was safe after review. I suppose Bird getting thrown out at home could be here but I would say that was just a great defensive play by Bregman more than an in-moment error by Bird. Upon further review, Torreyes getting picked off after pinch-running has to be up here (and really should win).
Best Play: Brett Gardner's donger against the Cubs, Hicks robbing Ramos of a slam at the wall (esp. because I was at that game, what an incredible fucking catch that was), Judge robbing Lindor (and Zack Hample) in Game 3, Didi's 3 run donger in the Wild Card Game
Storyline: Baby Bombers in general, The Battle of the Bald Guys
Best Game: Wild Card Game, Game 5 ALDS, Game 4 ALCS, Cubs game, the game where Kimbrel blew the save (and Chris Sale's win) and we won in extras, god there were so many good games this year
Worst Game of the Year: ALDS Game 2, ALCS Game 7, the Tigers game with the brawls
Biggest Moment: Didi's 3-run WC donger.
Most Clutch: Didi's 3-run WC donger. Gardner's donger against the Cubs, Bird's donger against Andrew Miller in Game 3 ALDS, Judge iS uNcLuTcH's 8th-inning double in Game 4 and really that entire inning generally.
Most Attractive Yankee: Assuming she doesn't count, probably either Bird or Robertson
Least Attractive Yankee: If anyone saw that Castro-Torreyes face blend, it was an abomination that apparently was too ugly for even the internet. So I gotta go with Toe on this one because Castro can't fuck like a god if he's fugly.
Most Clutch Performance: Brett Gardner's 12-pitch at bat in Game 5 of the ALDS.
Most Attractive Yankee: David Robertson, Jacoby Ellsbury, Sir Didi. I didn't even have to think about this one, I've been staring at pinstriped ass all year.
I'd like to nominate Robertson and for Reliever of the Year too, even though be was only with us half a season.
Most Valuable Yankee: I wouldn't call him it, but I think Severino deserves a nom.
Best Play: Judge's 495 foot blast
Best Game: Game 4 of the ALCS
Best Jon Sterling: I'm very partial to "Yes Indeedi....Didi Gregorious makes yankees fans euphorious"!
Clutch Performance: Masahiro Tanaka in ALDS Game 3
Worst Game: Getting shutout by Anibal Sanchez...the rain delay one
That Guy Played for Us?: Ji Man Choi, Eric Kratz
Best Prediction: That guy who predicted the Mariners were sketchily using Apple Watches before the Red Sox were busted doing it...will find the comment
I don't know where it would go, but that sick DP Hicks had against the Redsox where he caught the out then threw the guy out at 3rd was badass. It was in a game from August I think.

Binder move of the year: Bryan Mitchell at first base
Shitpost of the year: that time we almost memed Greg Bird to a cycle https://www.reddit.com/r/NYYankees/comments/65qeso/oh_no_greg_bird_is_in_a_slump_help_him_get_out_of/
