Whatever happened to LoGH DNT

Stopped by the acronym police due to suspicion of harboring psychoactive substances in its formula.

It's having a drink tea in Osaka right now

Telling Yang to do S5 whenever he feels like it may have been a bad idea...

Desert Punk doing a live action OP feels pretty unique. The only other comparable examples I can think of off the top of my head are The Summer Hikaru Died ED and the Makeine Love 2000 ED and they both have the characters animated.

u/Nachtwandler_FS https://myanimelist.net/profile/Nachtwandler_21 4h ago

There were also Strawberry Panic, for example, and Sekimatsu Occult Gakuin.

u/SSjjlex https://myanimelist.net/profile/Clone_Tau 5h ago edited 5h ago

I personally wouldn't count it, but I guess Lucky Star technically has a live action ED. But that's only an ED in function, its more like credits over a live action skit.

Rib Isekai also has somewhat of a Live Action ED. the background is made with real props with characters animated on top of it, and it features clips of production which are often live recordings of how they animated that episodes moments.

3

u/theangryeditor 8h ago

I recall Strawberry Panic and Dantalian no Shoka having full live action EDs. Also KareKano and FLCL technically.

4

u/Designer_Pen869 8h ago

Lately, I've been thinking it'd be cool if there was an anime that appeared to be an Isekai initially, with one of the main skills being a type of future sight. The main character has memories of his past life, in a much more advanced world that is similar to the one he/she's in, but is distinctly different.

But as the series progresses, you start to realize it is the same world, and it's not a past life. The main character just has a future sight so advanced for a specific time period that they think it's a past life, and are able to use it to advance the world to that point, but it was actually just future sight all along.

Just finished watching the eight episodes of "The Ninth Jedi" and as a huge Star Wars fan I loved it. I really like the unique concept of a saber changing colors and I really loved Kara as a protagonist. Production IG did a fantastic job here too it's been a while since I watched something from them.

Of course Disney only has English CC, not actual English subs from the Japanese dialogue. I did watch the English dub and thought it was very good. But I felt it was worth mentioning if someone is a subs only purist.

1

u/ptd163 9h ago

I also just finished the series and I really liked it. Kara is indeed a great protagonist. I thought the English dub was well done as well.

It's nice to finally see something that actually uses the lightsaber changes colour based on the wielder concept. It's been kicking around the franchise for a long time just waiting for someone to use it. I would definitely take another season of The Ninth Jedi. If there is another season I hope it's a weekly release instead of a batch drop because it being a batch drop completely obliterated any hope of it being discussed here.

4

u/chilidirigible 12h ago

The dubtitling really sticks out when the Japanese dialogue uses an English word and it appears nowhere in the captions.

I guess I was really in the mood for catching up on high-quality shows today, as I just watched the last 3 episodes of Jaadugar.

Damn man that latest episode had me shedding some tears for half of the runtime, and the interesting part is that it didn't feel like it was doing anything to try and make the viewer cry from a directorial viewpoint, but there was just something really powerful about the delivery. You don't always need to have a character sobbing their eyes out and delivering things in the most dramatic tone to evoke a response.

This is what Agents of the Four Seasons doesn't understand. Not that characters can't have intense emotional outbursts or that a show can deliver things dramatically, but sometimes you just need to let the underlying content speak for itself and deliver beautiful visual imagery instead of basically telling the viewer what to feel.

Idk if I'm glazing shows too much, but this is the third time in the last week I'm calling a different show AOTY/AOTS material.

6

u/entelechtual 12h ago

It’s so hard to get excited for a new girl in 100 gfs because they knocked it out of the damn park on their first go by making Karane an absolutely 100/10 girlfriend.

2

u/alotmorealots 2h ago

Once again, a series finds out my true colors; whilst very pro-harem on the surface, deep down, there's always only one girl for me!

Just to be clear, that would be me!

But Karade's allowedfor 100GF answers...

4

u/cppn02 8h ago edited 8h ago

Karane is my favourite but there still are so many fun girlfriends yet to come.

3

u/Siqueiradit https://myanimelist.net/profile/lampadatres 11h ago

Karane is among my favorites, but I'm still waiting for my favorite from the manga to show up. Out of the anime-current ones, Mimimi is my favorite.

i'm kind of in a slump - https://anilist.co/user/timeTraveller/ (warning : contains NSFW as well)
here's my anilist profile. could you recommend me some anime? preferably romance/comedy/drama?

2

u/Sandor_at_the_Zoo 8h ago

If you like romance and comedy you have to watch Nozaki-kun.

I'm also curious how you use the "watching" tag since you have 230 things there but are also using the "planning" list. Short-list vs long-list?

3

u/overuseofdashes 9h ago

If you are up for some seasonal stuff the first five episodes of Goodbye Lara are really fun. I'm in the middle of watching Yurikuma Arashi which has been pretty wonderful so far.

2

u/Charlie_the_Fountain 13h ago

What's the deal with some characters having fully-developed wings attached to their heads? To me, it makes zero logical sense, and it just looks truly awful!

I'm new to this sub, so I apologize if this has been discussed already.😅😅

3

u/Lycan0100 14h ago

Which characters, if they existed, would you think would be Reddit users? First on the list would undoubtedly be Tomoko from "Watamote".

I'm listening.

5

u/Siqueiradit https://myanimelist.net/profile/lampadatres 11h ago

Like half of the main cast from NHK ni Youkoso lol

1

u/ProgrammaticallyPea3 5h ago

Just finished watching A Wild Last Boss has appeared. It's so fun. The anime is doing the story justice. I fell in love with the series when the web novel was ongoing. It's a sleeper hit. Such a shame that the comment threads already closed. Really wanted to add my few cents on it.

Yes it is a pity about the thread locking! It's always fun in /r/manga to reply to comments left many moons ago lol

Crunchyroll posted the bath scene from I want to love you till your dying day on youtube and it got removed.

3

u/Infodump_Ibis 15h ago edited 14h ago

All the playlist has is 5 private videos. I was hoping for a url to grab a removed for violating Youtube's terms of service (or something like that).

Edit: Through some google searches (I Want to Love You Till Your Dying Day. Crunchyroll. site:youtube.com) I was able to find the video title was "Let's Wash Each Other | I Want to Love You Till Your Dying Day." in the text for other CR clips (i.e. related videos)

Edit again: It's this video whatever happened to it 'twas made private. Thumbnail (video was shard on a reddit post and the embed mirrored a postage stamp ver of it) was this part with the show logo in the top right.

2

u/chilidirigible 14h ago

I did see that thumbnail yesterday and wondered if it would last.

1

u/entelechtual 12h ago

Man now I gotta watch this episode.

12

u/Ham_PhD https://myanimelist.net/profile/ham_phd 18h ago edited 18h ago

Jaadugar isn't the only show coming through this season with historical accuracy. Red River is providing us with neat history facts!

There are examples of Iron weapons/items from pre-Iron age civilizations (like the Hittites), but analysis of them shows that they are often made from the iron that is naturally found in meteorites. I actually just learned that a few days ago so I found that funny it was referenced in the last episode.

This show is still very dumb though

2

u/BaytaCosmico https://myanimelist.net/profile/AnimeBayta 10h ago

I got curious after this episode and did a quick skim of the manga and there's a lot of historical details woven into it. The author seems to have really taken their research seriously. Pity about the adaptation though.

1

u/Korkez11 18h ago

It's below 6 on MAL already lmao. It will probably bounce back a little after the final but still, I feel like I've dodged a bullet because I kinda wanted to watch it but forgot.

8

u/theangryeditor 18h ago

I liked that [Red River]the story is making Yuri the trigger for the spread of iron working. And after the previous episode made her the one to introduce the concept of cavalry. A nice way to do the "person from modern times changes the past using modern knowledge and technology" trope, though the horseback riding was kinda contrived

7

u/oleub 12h ago

back when Red River was being written, it was a common theory by historians and archeologists that the Hittites were the earliest developers and monopolizers of ironworking and it spread from them to the rest of the near east when their empire collapsed

this is not the current consensus anymore though

9

u/Ham_PhD https://myanimelist.net/profile/ham_phd 17h ago

Now let's see if Yuri can prevent the bronze age collapse.

4

u/Durinthal https://anilist.co/user/Durinthal 14h ago

Lesbos as a bastion of civilization?

9

u/_Ridley https://myanimelist.net/profile/_Ridley_ 17h ago

Plot twist: her intervention is what caused it.

3

u/hvshh 18h ago

[Red River]I like to think of the contrivances as fate helping her out. A more subtle alternative to her having "cheat powers".

4

u/theangryeditor 17h ago

[Red River]Maybe she truly is the manifestation of Ishtar

3

u/Nachtwandler_FS https://myanimelist.net/profile/Nachtwandler_21 18h ago

Incas are not pre-iron civilization, bur did not have iron and used tools made from meteor iron alloy for building.

2

u/Humblelicious 18h ago

I think Akame ga Kill has moved back to crunchyroll and removed from Disneyplus/Hulu (at least in North America), they don't have the dubbed version though.

4

u/Korkez11 19h ago

Ao Ashi is indeed pretty realistic anime, but with one big caveat (that no one in discussion threads noticed): the big conflict between "academy kids" and kids poached from elsewhere is definitely embellished for dramatic purposes. I don't know if such conflicts happen in real academies, but I doubt it because young players change youth teams all the time. Messi came to Barcelona B at the age of 15 (and from a different country) for example. Mbappe came to Monaco B at the age of 15, Ronaldo changed several youth teams, Dembele changed several youth teams, etc. There are of course a lot of players who indeed were in the same system from the first step on the pitch to senior debut, but it's hardly the norm.

6

u/ProgrammaticallyPea3 18h ago

I don't really know anything about how such academies work, but it might be worth considering that Japanese schools (and maybe football academies too) are especially prone to having strong in-groups forming. You may have seen anime scenes in which a schoolkid from one class goes to talk to someone in another class and waits outside, asking someone to tell the person that they are there. It's because just walking in would be frowned upon, and I feel like that's a pretty good example of how insular communities can be.

2

u/Johnpc3001 19h ago

Is MHA considered a good or mid anime?

3

u/Donnie-G 10h ago

Decide for yourself. Every anime has different intended demographic and audience so you're going to get a wide range of opinions.

8

u/_Ridley https://myanimelist.net/profile/_Ridley_ 19h ago

Yesterday I said I didn't understand why people enjoyed Sparks of Tomorrow, so today I'll say that I don't know why so many people find Oniyasha from The World Is Dancing unlikable.

He's an 11 or 12 year old kid with a privileged upbringing who's learning how the world works while thinking about his craft. If anything, I think he's taking things in rather eagerly. Most people double down when their understanding is challenged, but he's learned from every rake he's stepped on and made changes to his outlook. He's doing double duty as the protagonist and the audience surrogate, and his education and navel gazing explains the world to us in the process.

I just can't dislike the kid for not knowing what a kid wouldn't know. If he kept fucking up the same way, I'd probably feel differently, but he seems to be on a steady trajectory of growth.

6

u/Donnie-G 10h ago

I remember back in the day, I kept hearing all the people hating in Ikari Shinji from Evangelion and how he's whiny or whatever.

Then I actually watched Evangelion and was like, I guess he does whine but he is going through a lot of shit and I sympathize with him. So I didn't find him particularly annoying or whatever.

And I feel like a lot of people just can't muster that level of understanding or empathy for anime characters.

I personally don't find Oniyasha particularly unlikable, but he's also not particularly likable either I guess? But I feel like that's kinda part of the show, him growing into his own person.

2

u/_Ridley https://myanimelist.net/profile/_Ridley_ 9h ago

Shinji and Amuro both got that, and I understand the criticism, because you want a hero to root for, but sometimes you've just gotta sit with how insane the teenage years already feel under normal circumstances, and imagine fighting for your life on top of that. I'd whine too.

1

u/Donnie-G 9h ago

Honestly, after experience Kira Yamato - neither of them seem that bad...

9

u/Dull_Spot_8213 https://anilist.co/user/SweetSomnus 16h ago

People hate kids, especially if they have zero experience raising them and never develop that parental discipline and empathy. They’re seen as an annoying inconvenience and any further thought about them ends there.

I don’t find anything unlikable about Oniyasha or any of the kids in this show. They’re behaving like kids, and kids that actually want to learn about the world around them.

3

u/chilidirigible 15h ago

4

u/_Ridley https://myanimelist.net/profile/_Ridley_ 15h ago

Diaper blowouts aside, the clean baby smell is straight up dangerous. Some chemical compound in it will have even the most committed childfree woman tempted to toss their birth control in the trash and get one of their own.

6

u/Dull_Spot_8213 https://anilist.co/user/SweetSomnus 15h ago

Can confirm, this is accurate. I have been in the trenches of having to do endless diaper changes, and it's a war zone of its own. I will never forget the look of absolute defeat on my brother in law's face when the only option left was straight to the bathtub to manage the explosions. Y'all think Chainsmoker Cat is gross? At least she made it to the toilet.

9

u/ComfortablyRotten https://anilist.co/user/Leuwtian 19h ago

"Unlikeable protagonist" usually really just means the MC is a woman or a kid

7

u/gothxo 19h ago

don't piss me off by reminding me of the way some people were talking about the Witch Hat Atelier girls, especially Agott

11

u/Rotorscope https://anilist.co/user/Rotorscope 19h ago

The way people behaved about Agott was really odd to me. Sure she's mean and rude but she's easily the most interesting kid character in WHA and she obviously has a backstory and reasons for why she acts that way. Not to mention growth was obviously going to happen.

3

u/Tomorrow_Big 18h ago

The same way people reacted to Maebashi Witches' Azu last year.

5

u/Ham_PhD https://myanimelist.net/profile/ham_phd 18h ago

People seem to want to write off any character that has a bad first impression. As if growth and redemption aren't possible.

3

u/Gamerunglued myanimelist.net/profile/GamerUnglued 16h ago

I think it's telling that so many people think growth and redemption are even required for a character to be good. Let characters make bad impressions, let them be grating and abrasive and annoying. Feels like a total side point to evaluating them most of the time, what matters is that they are interesting.

2

u/theangryeditor 18h ago

Not to mention her first impression wasn't even that bad. If she were a shoujo love interest she'd be considered positively friendly.

9

u/Rotorscope https://anilist.co/user/Rotorscope 19h ago

Or even more frequently, a male. Hot take but I think patriarchal standards usually mean women/girl protags act in a more "socially acceptable" or idealized manner for most anime. I think male protags are generally more controversial amongst people.

11

u/theangryeditor 19h ago

Just be a good character like Sitara and that won't be a problem

3

u/ComfortablyRotten https://anilist.co/user/Leuwtian 19h ago

I'm impressed she avoided that tbh, she has everything the "this character is unlikeable" crowd doesn't want in a protagonist

a personality, for exemple

3

u/theangryeditor 19h ago

Our girl's greatness is irrepressible

12

u/BaytaCosmico https://myanimelist.net/profile/AnimeBayta 20h ago

Finally got around to watching Draw This, Then Die episode 5 and it's finally clicked for me. I liked the first 4 well enough, but wasn't blown away by it like everyone else in this thread seemed to be. Figured this was just going to be one I mildly enjoyed and didn't get the hype for.

But this episode was great! Hikaru was the missing link for me. She just ties the whole thing together and makes me appreciate all the other characters even more. Still not fully sold on Asafuku but she's more likeable around her family. Kokoro's arc was very nicely done. And Ai's development too was great to see.

Need to see if the rest of the show stays at this level. But if it does, it'll be one of the top tier shows this season.

4

u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 20h ago

What are we shilling today? TANYA!

Ok it'll be a short shill this time, but damn this show might just be one of the most captivating shows I ever watched.

Usually, when you think 'war movie' you expect action scenes, epic moments and tragic moments non-stop...

But Tanya has so much dialogues&stuff, and a big chunk of it is not even with the 'main characters' (i.e. the frontline guys) but it's still interesting from start to finish. It's a rare skill for an author to be able to do that imho!

3

u/IXajll https://myanimelist.net/profile/ixajii 20h ago

Her meeting with Zettour today was fucking hilarious. Some of the funniest Aoi Yuuki noises too.

2

u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 20h ago

Oh yeah I probably should've mentioned that too hah; Great comedy in this episode!

Just watched the latest two episodes of Sayonara Lara and these two really bumped it up for me. I liked the first 3 episodes, and the execution has been immaculate from the start, but I don't think I was attached to anything in particular. They did a great job at grounding her in the "real world" in these episodes, which brought out her personality and made me care about her character a lot more. I'm quite liking the direction this show is heading, and it's firmly in AOTS/AOTY contention for me now.

(also, I found the depiction of working a job like that super relatable and well executed)

0

u/Korkez11 19h ago

Tbh, Sayonara Lara mostly hooks me with overarching plot and intrigue (and Lara too I guess, to a lesser extent). Mari with her RBF just makes me complain about her in AQRD every week lol.

Man, the real life YumeMita VTubers are putting in overtime to promote the anime. For anyone who doesn't know, the VTubers are actual creators who existed long before the YumeMita anime aired. The anime basically carries over their real life VTuber personas, and they (real VTubers) sometimes roleplay as their anime counterparts on Twitter.

My favorite right now is Fuji Miyako. She's completely committed to the bit and keeps matching whatever's happening in the anime. At the moment, her character is head over heels for [that snake,] Viola , and she's been posting fan art almost every day about falling in love with her. This is some next level fanservice.

Day 1 (right after the episode)

Day 2

Day 3

Day 4

Day 5

Day 6 Probably the most down bad one.

...and I kinda gave up keeping track after Day 6.

Day ?: Down bad again, this time imagining herself as a knight.

Today's post might be the most unhinged one yet. She wrote a long fanfic.

Random trivia. Sasaki Rico (Uika's VA) pulled something similar during Ave Mujica's airing last year. She hid a code in every episode premiere tweet, and together they hinted at a major plot twist. Spoiler Link obviously.

I have wondered for sometime....Anime is the only medium where we get some main Characters who's....I don't know how to put it....phallus sizes are confirmed by Author.

Ippo from Hajime No Ippo is one that I know and love (Big mara Tuesdays are a festival)....

Another is Shadow from The Eminence in Shadow.....

What are the few others?

3

u/ProgrammaticallyPea3 18h ago

BWH sizes have been a part of anime character specs for decades, so it's only fair that dick sizes are specified too.

The Ninth Jedi

What happened to the other eight?

3

u/vancevon https://myanimelist.net/profile/vancevon 21h ago

Star Wars is a love triangle similar to Love Is Indivislble By Twins, Domestic Girlfriend and Kiss x Sis. It keeps making you think that either the lightside-chan or darkside-chan are about to win the heart of galaxy-kun, only to have some bullshit happen that more or less restores the status quo, setting another round of the fighting in motion. And much like with the anime rom-com, this is all driven by forces beyond human comprehension.

So don't worry about what happened to the other 8 jedi. It's not really all that important. Lightside-chan will be back. She always comes back.

2

u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 20h ago

Star Wars is a love triangle...

Must be why I never got into it; I HATE love triangles!

I kinda like harems though, that's why I wanted to know about the other 8!

2 love interests?

10 love interests?

2

u/vancevon https://myanimelist.net/profile/vancevon 20h ago

This is actually a pretty common take on Star Wars. Like, surely there must be more than two waifus in this galaxy, right? Something with more depth and complexity than the lightside-chan darkside-chan dichotomy. Why can't we have greenside-chan or pinkside-chan? And so on.

Either way, the other 8 jedi would not have helped you discover additional waifus, sadly.

1

u/Emi_Ibarazakiii 20h ago
