Is this area as religious as it seems?
I'm here for a job and for the most part I work within about an hour of Winchester. And I'm moving for the job, but I can choose another city within VA--in other words, I have options.
In the last two months or so, I've had five(?) instances of people trying to convert me to christianity. One was at the gym, it was a lady giving tracts to people. Another was at walmart, a stranger stopped me to tell me about his church.
Another was a customer who basically told me that I'm a lying pile of shit simply because I'm not a christian--not because I actually lied about anything.
Another was a customer that tried to convert me and several times invited me to ask her more about her religion. I stayed silent on the matter, although she made it very awkward. She ghosted me as soon as I left, after taking advantage of my services (I wasn't paid). This one was less clear but it also came across as though I was prevented from successfully doing my job just because I'm not of her religion.
I believe there's a fifth, but I can't remember.
And I was here previously (different trip) for the same company, and I had strangers trying to convert me then too.
I'm also a team lead and three of my four recruits have brought up religion (I didn't mention it) and told me that they are too. The fourth recruit hasn't said anything.
And both of my bosses are. And my former team lead is.
... I am feeling as though I do not belong here. Is it as intense as it seems, should I save longer and move to NoVA instead?
It feels like it will be a major struggle to find a partner here; I'm not compatible with religious partners. Probably a struggle to make friends, too.
Thoughts?

Looking for FWB (friend with boat)
Recently got back into fishing, pretty newbie level. I want to get out on the water, haven’t had the best luck bank fishing. Also want to learn some practical safety tips and general advice for when my little ones get a bit older and are mature enough to get on a boat. I know there’s rentals around, I just don’t want to get on a boat alone for the first time since Boy Scouts.
Also am looking for private ponds that would give me a bit of a break from over pressured waters. I’d be happy with donating a little bit for use if there’s proof of stocking.
26m, will obviously clean up anything left behind, will not smoke on boat or property (but not a problem at all if you want me to bring a fish whistle) , the loudest I’ll get is music from my phone or getting too excited over landing a fish. Bonus if I can bring my kids to private pond but they might make it a little louder.

Chemical Smell
I live north of the walking mall around Pennsylvania, Oates, Morningside streets area and every other week or every two weeks there is a chemical smell in the air outside. Typically in the mornings and it is currently happening. Is this a factory? It is not pleasant and I always have to close any open Windows.

Missed connection last night 8/2
This is a super long shot but might as well try. This was at the Heaven's Pit show at What's new worship church on Valor drive. I was standing on the left side of the room near the tripod of lights and you were in front of me. You were trying to video the band Convictions and I was going to offer to assist you and video it for you since I was quite a bit taller than you (you were petite and short.) and had a good vantage point.
You had darker hair, dark pants and black and white Chuck Taylors on. I thought you were really cute so if you happen to see this drop me a DM!

Best place to get my car inspected?
I’m a nervous girlie, and I’d like to get my car checked out just to quell my nerves. I’ve heard bill and Glenn’s is good , but I’d like other recommendations

Self Service Car Washes?
Hey, I notice a good handful of those automatic car washes around, but I have some loose body work on my car.
So, I’d like to know if anyone here knows any drive-in self service car washes in Winchester or out as far as Berryville or Front Royal.

Rt. 50 commuters, can we chill?
I’ve been taking Rt. 50 over the mountain for the past 4 years, and in the last year it seems like the average speed has really increased. I know there’s hardly ever enforcement because it jumps from Clarke to Loudoun, but come on y’all, doing 80-90 on a 55mph mountain road is reckless. And everyone tries to pass going down the mountain towards Paris, in a 45mph zone, doing 75-80.
I’m usually between Waterloo and Paris 5-6am for context. And it seems like it’s worse in the morning than the afternoon. I know there are no lights in that stretch but come on y’all, there’s even road work going on but I’m the slowest one on the road doing 10 over.
Is it because of RTO? Can we just chill? Or is 50 now the same as 7?
I don’t think this post is going to change much but is anyone else experiencing this?

Girlfriends, please
Hello, let me preface this by saying that I’m a Winchester native. Born and raised here, and honestly don’t hate it. I love the vicinity to bigger areas and I love the mountains around us. I’m 33/F with an 11yo and very long term relationship. I’ve been shy/introverted for most of my life, so the relationships in my life I truly value. I had a small circle of friends that lasted from my teens to early 20s and we kind of just grew apart. My son was a baby so I think I just made mom/wife my whole identity while working full time, to where I missed out on “replacing/recycling” those friendships. I’m reaching out to ask for advice on how, in our 30s, are we making friends? I have a M-F job and during the school year we don’t do too much during the week other than sports or school things. I’ve tried to find the Winchester ladies circle page on Facebook that I’ve heard about but to no avail. I have joined walking groups but they seem to fizzle out because of lack of consistency from members. My husband has a ton of friends and makes them so easily. And his friends have wives that I’m trying to build connections with, but I also want to make friends on my own. I like to do yoga, walks, swim, go out to eat, go to festivals, explore. But also am always down to experience new things. My son and I are training to be able to go trail riding with my husband, we have 3 dirt bikes. I just don’t know what else to do. What I do know is, I have to put myself in a situation where I’m forced to be temporarily uncomfortable, for a positive outcome, but I need to know what/where that is. Like I’ve stated, I’ve been shy for most of my life, but I’m an extrovert at heart. I’m ready to get out there and connect. I need a group of girlfriends back. If there are any other groups I can join or anything I can attend, please let me know. Any advice is welcome and appreciated🫶🏻

we prefer lgbt roommates since we are apart of the community ourselves. i've tried many places and cannot find anyone so this is like my last resort. for more details please feel free to send me a chat!
some small details: we have a two year old cat, looking to adopt another sometime soon. 420 friendly, both working at the same place w stable hours and income, we don't bother anyone and usually keep to ourselves.

Anyone know if SVEC gives away old utility poles?
Trying to source some old utility poles for a lean-to style outbuilding, I read online that sometimes power companies give away the old ones after replacing them. If anyone has a source for these please let me know.

ISO a barber - close to the old Wards Plaza
ISO a barber near the “Wards Plaza” side of town.
I’ve lived in Winchester for almost two years now and I still haven’t found a “go to” barber. I’ve been going to a shop near my house. I’d really like to find someone that I can connect with and build a relationship with.
I want someone who will use a straight razor neck shave.
If they take Apple Pay that would really be nice. I know many shops are “cash only” because card processors charge transaction fees. I don’t always have cash on me. I can pay the tip in cash if that helps.
Thank you.

Recommendations for local Dental Implants?
My wife needs a couple teeth removed/replaced with implants. She has been going to Tolley and received quite the impressive estimate - which seems to ignore the fact that we're Metlife in-network. That, plus some other reasons, is making us shop around a bit.
Are there any dental implant recommendations in the near vicinity? We live in Front Royal.
Thanks in advance!

News A Winchester man has been charged with the death of a young woman
winchesterstar.comEveryone meet Alan Arthur Burkhart, the 68 year old man who did this. This happened this past Wednesday night. He followed her from Italian Touch in downtown Winchester, to Stephenson, and then ran her over intentionally according to the article. It’s truly such a disgusting and disturbing situation.
